The big picture..... Sinners, this thread is not about Sticks or the Board.

This thread is about Ratten and you have been leading the charge when it comes to Ratts bashing. I asked you to nominate a current coach who would do a better job and you refuse to do so because you would have to defend a choice and it could come back to bite you. Really disappointed you dont have the cahones to suggest somebody and defend your choice. In stead you belittle and patronise.

The difference is that you could see a plan coming together. A plan Rossy Lyon put in place (they likes it or not) he matured this side into a discipline unit in a short amount of time.

Heres what we get.......................

- We start the season off with rookies and a focus to develop a young team.
- Then tactically he gets it completely wrong against the crows.
- Not to mention the puzzling selections of Bentley against the Hawks, not moving jammo onto Roughead.
- He selects a tall forward line to play against a running machine in Essendon*.
- To half way through the year Ratten coming out and saying he has over done the development and will select a more mature team.
- Now he's dropped the more mature players and going back to the youth.

WHATS THE FLOWER PLAN?

The guy has no idea. This club is suffering for it

What I see on this thread are a number of people with (to them) valid concerns. I haven't seen one poster taking a personal shot at Ratts. ie EVERYTHING has been about his performance in his current position at the club.

There's nothing more annoying on this board than the lynch mentality when someone questions an aspect of how the club is being run.

And I see comments a few pages prior in this thread about 'trucks being backed up' What... over a win against CLEARLY the worst team that ran out in the AFL this weekend. Sorry, am I being a Chicken little? pfft

Point scoring - the weakest form of argument.

For those who dispute the value of the 'process'.

The 'process' landed Hawthorn Clarkson (remember - they were lambasted in media circles for not rushing to sign Wallace).

The 'process' landed St Kilda Lyon, when every pundit had Longmire as a certainty for that position.

Personally, I would LOVE our club to have a proper process. If that turns up Ratts, fantastic.

Agree. A process also to some extent protects the person employed for the term of his employment. I for one would be a lot more patient if I knew Ratts was chosen following a thorough selection process, but because he wasn't I for one will scrutinise him for every mistake he makes because it will always be in the back of my mind that we missed out on someone better.

Sorry but this is BS. The complaint from Saints supporters was that they could NOT see a plan in their opinion. Moulding a team takes time and when it clicks the improvement can come fast. On the other side..... well look at the Hawks this year. It took Bomber 7 years to get a flag with a very talented team. The year before their flag they underperformed badly and everybody was waiting for him to get sacked - actually it lasted into a few rounds of their premiership season.

The "Process" also landed St Kilda Thomas.

Did you see me being victorious about one win? No.

Did you see me defending Ratts? No.

All I was asking was some balance and rationality when people air their opinions. Which they are more than welcome to. I don't give a crap about their opinions, but the way they get expressed here brings this site down, and makes individual posters look like unbalanced people.

I'm happy to go thorough this entire thread and find individual instances of slagging, if you'd like, but from memory words such as "doesn't have a clue", "worst coach in the AFL" are ones which have been levelled at Ratts. If that's just an opinion, then maybe definitions have changed. It might take a couple of days to collate them all, by the way.

If I had a real problem with the way some people"discussed" Ratten, then I'd report the posts to the mods as inappropriate. I don't think posts are inappropriate, just hysterical, and unbalanced.

How's that for a start, P22?

This is slagging. It is not "argument", nor is it discussion. An argument has intelligence and reason behind it. Statements like the above do not.

I feel, at this point, obliged to add. I hope like hell Ratts makes it. I really do. He's a club champion at it would be the BEST thing for him to lead us to 17.

It does, however, honestly stun me that anyone can look at what's happening on the field right now and be completely comfortable with the way our team is being developed.

And unless you ARE completely comfortable with the way this team is progressing, I really question the need to take pot shots at those who aren't.

What charge???

Surely i can pick things out and post them?

People have been doing that on boards for as long as board have been running....

Look. you have your views... i have mine.. ill keep posting mine cos it makes me feel better.... you do the same if they make you feel better...

But im pretty sure i 'get stuff'... so please dont try to tell me what i can post and what i cant... ok???

I actually believe... and i might be wrong.. that i do put a different slant on things on this board....it might even help people to be more aware about their club....

NOW.... if Ratten was appointed through an independant process and he was struggling ... id give him more time...

Ratts doesnt have it .. he has ZERO grounding as a coach....
So tactically hes pretty hopeless... hes still fiddling with a settled side... 42 games into his tenure... (five changes last week)
Nothing resembling a gameplan..
Players unsure at strt of games,
Parents concerned their kids are being hammered without the help of team mates...

No psychological test ..... so noone knows how he handles pressure .. (think Austin here),....might even end up with a "YOU COST MY JOB" wallace style in the change rooms someday....

Noone knows... there was no process...

Youre not going to tell me... someone can get a job at my club in this day and age under those mate circumstances.... and wont have the blowtorch applied on the whole stinking thing when the club is treading water...???

And if jobs for the boys shortcuts were taken on one of the top 4 positions at the club what other unprofessioal choices have been made that we cant see???

See a process should help you build real foundations... foundations are there to build upon... and that is why the pyramids were built with the fat end on the bottom and the point on the very top... dont think they would have lasted 4 thousand years if it was upside down... what do you reckon???

Pretty sure the Pharoahs didnt find the local goat herded as architect .. no matter how nice the goat herder was.. his job was the cheese...
There was a proces to find the best Pyramid Architect....

Dont agree????

Isn't Roosy mate, Longmire getting the gig at the Swans after he retires to the US?

So if Rossy Lyon having no plan is BS so the 2009 form must be a fluke ey?

Can you please explain enlighten me just what is Brett Ratten's plan then? Seriously i'd love to know cause all i see is Bull Shite.

Tell me how all Hawks and Cats supporters were completely comfortable with how their teams were progressing during the years prior to their premierships. You guys are asking for something that is unrealistic. Football teams consist of humans.......

I did say I was sorry If I offended anyone with the Chicken Little comment, and I will try not to use it again.

Funnily enough, I don't think we're that far removed in what we both want in regards to the coach.

But it isn't Ratten's fault that the perception (if not the reality) is that a proper process was not undertaken. Ratten is hardly going to reject the job on the basis of misgivings as to the club's processes or lack thereof. Therefore, your problem in relation to this "process" should be with the club/board etc., and not with Ratten. Fair enough if you don't think Ratten is the best coach for the club. But he didn't appoint himself, the club appointed him.

PLEASE tell me you are joking.

Thomas, from day one of Blight's tenure, was angling for his job and just happened to be..... whoops!.... best mates with the President.

That was as much of a 'process' as a plate of spag bol.
