if there was any doubt there is none now.

while he can still make some shocking decisions at times, he is looking more and more comfortable playing the role he is, and if he is taking a few marks and kicking a couple of goals a game, im not sure what more you could ask of him.

well done setanta :)

great efforts and results, congrats to the mc and coaches for ignoring the 'experts' who think he's a backman.

One swallow does not make a summer, but his improvement over the last few weeks has been undeniable. He's given us a target and intensity, both in terms of attack on the footy and physical pressure, we haven't had in a long time.

I've been rapt with his last couple weeks, well, perhaps not last week... but everyone was pretty ordinary, weren't they, and especially today his work was sensational.

Two thumbs up from me.

The same MC that consistently ignored him then dropped him again until Cloke stunk up the place so badly that Carlos was begrudgingly given a chance?

If he can just hold down CHF as he is doing he is has a future at the club. The tactical flexibility it gives us with the return of Warnock is incredible. Try to hold a forward line with Ohailp, Fev and Kreuzer. You don't trade or cut guys that are 200cm 100kg. Spalding wasnt a great kick but he made life easier for sticks and Pearce

I hear it week in week out from the commentators, comparing him to Stynes saying that he took a good 5 years to find himself at AFL.

Setanta too has been in the system for about that long now, it looks like he's starting to find a settled position up forward, which is good considering he's spent his career moving around too much.

He should be kept up there alongside Fev, he provides a tall option and is good at ground level for his size.

The coaching staff have to realise that that's where he needs to stay, start developing him as a lead up forward and leave him there for many years to come.

The Irish man did us all proud today.

The best game he has played for this club.

and the best thing he ever did was belt Cameron Cloke to the curb.

Setanta a really good performance - hard working - great work ethic - best chf performance for the side for the year - only one really bad miss - took on grover and beat him - must be played all year - gives a strong contest - marking has improved immeasurably -getting better

Nothing to be embarassed about SB.

I know what you see and I know he stes the herat beating just like Bower did and does. For some of us it's a positive for others it's a negative. The negative is not wrong because there's only so much one can stand.

He hasn't won a GF for us so he isn't a hero yet. Having said that, I did want to say in the past, on the weaker 'hope' side of the argument and from a betting man's perspective that Setanta is the type who could starighten up in a GF and arse 7 straight goals (ala Walls in '72, but in a different league). I bet based on potential and the time it takes to show it. Setanta's been around long enough, and now its time for him to deliver. Like all peripheral players it's all in the hands of the opportunity the MC given them.

Setanta should have kicked 6 and on a good day (wher all goes right for the team) he could have had 8. The touched goal was dubious and the missed sitter was just.....hearting beating stuff and abit of  . He had 7 shots. From CHF, 4 goals and a lot od crashing packs was better than Spalding, and the running he did...much more than Spalding. Spalding holds the mantle though because he did it for a longer period and his has a won a medal for the game that counts.

There's no doubt he's on the up and we all know he's in because Waite is out...but geezuz, hasn't he really filled those boots well for a player of his ilk.

Bodes well. Still like to see Kreuzer at the FF line to compliment the 3 big targets.

Aisake O hAilpin collected his first two Senior Hurling Championship goals as Cork saw off the challenge of Offaly in Saturday's qualifier clash in Tullamore.

The 23-year-old forward got the better of his marker David Kenny and goalkeeper Brian Mullins, slamming home a goal in each half.

Offaly were only 1-10 to 1-08 behind at half-time, with Shane Dooley hitting a 19th minute goal.

But the Jerry O'Connor-inspired Rebels owned the second half and goals from substitute Patrick Horgan and O hAilpin put the result beyond doubt.

The crowd were treated to a very competitive first half with little to chose between the teams. Ben O'Connor and Derek Molloy traded points in the opening two minutes, with Offaly perhaps shading the early exchanges.

O'Connor's twin brother Jerry, arguably the game's outstanding player, powered forward from his midfield station to skillfully fire over Cork's second point.

The visitors had more verve in attack but Offaly's forwards were well able to take their scores, as proved by Shane Dooley and Brian Carroll and Paul Cleary also stepped up to the mark.

Newcomer Tadhg Og Murphy and Timmy McCarthy kept Cork ticking with points before Shane Dooley crept a thundering shot beyond the reach of Cork goalkeeper Donal Og Cusack to register the hosts' only goal.

But Cork were able to bounce back, mainly through the O'Connors, before O hAilpin was found in plenty of space and the Na Piarsaigh clubman weaved his way through before rifling past Mullins.

With Derek Molloy and Joe Bergin adding their names to the scoresheet, Offaly kept the pressure on and made it a one-point game before Cork managed to set sail for the second round.

The gap was significantly widened when a ball in from Sean Og O hAilpin found substitute Patrick Horgan and his smart finish to the left corner of the net gave Mullins little chance.

Conor Mahon and Bergin replied with points for Offaly but Cork were now on a roll and a flurry of points followed before Aisake claimed his second goal, 16 minutes from the finish.

The former Aussie Rules hopeful missed out on a hat-trick late on, with his effort being forced over the crossbar, but Cork had already done enough to get their Championship campaign back on track.

The commentators tonight all agreed he was the most improved player in the AFL this year.
