A part of me says we are not:
Fev will always be a time bomb
Too much reliance on Judd
Too much of a gap between the good performances and poor performances of about 10 players in our team. Inconsistency.
We still have not beaten one of the teams that has given us trouble in the past.
Some players have improved, some have stalled and some have gone backwards.

That's where I'm at woof.

I can see both our positives, and our negatives.

I believe that anyone who says things like "we're [REDACTED], we're going backwards, DOOM!, GLOOM!" is wrong.

Just as I believe that anyone who says things like "all is well, we're rocketing to the top, don't criticise", is also wrong.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

well said BM. For a week I thought I was on the Punt road website.

as I posted in another thread, did the Bulldogs go into a panic when we flogged them? Were they calling for Eade to be sacked?

If you have watched Geelong and Hawthorn progress, they have had there backward steps. Look at the saints. Many wanted Lyon's head.

Just think about things for the moment.

We are ahead of where we were last year
We have for the first time in seven years a sniff of the finals and a heady smell it is indeed.
We have several young exciting players and a player who is amongst the best three in the competition on any day.
The club is now financially secure.
We will have world standard facilities at Visy Park, hell we might, if the cards fall the right way get to play some games at the old Fortress.

And best of all for we old timers John has been banished.

But finally, sport is about winning and losing, learning how to lose without losing the plot is a key element of that. Winning is about taking all of your learning and skill and succeeding when others say you can't. Are we winners, by all the performance indicators, we are. As a club including supporters we have to satrt believing we are WINNERS and not the rabble we have been for far to long. Once we start doing that we will suceed.

Cheers

BM.

In summary, she will be sweet ! Lets wait till we hit the iceberg. C'mon Mark, open your eyes, there are issues that need to addressed, and they just won't go away with magically.

I would like to see, Sticks relinquish his current position and move on to an ambassadorial role, the coaching team restructured with an experienced ex snr coach such as Laidley brought in as director of coaching, and Teague, Lappin, Bradley moved out and more experienced assistants brought in to support Ratten.

But Aircav, the Bulldogs game was many weeks ago (and followed them playing in WA 2 weeks in a row) and they have won more that 2 consecutive games which we haven`t for a long time. Don`t worry there was real concern in their camp at the time, just refer to Sedats`posts.
Sure many Saints supporters were unhappy with Lyon but they still made a Prelim final last year.
Collingwood finished last in `99 and played in 2 GF`s in 02 and 03.
Hawthorn should have played of in the 01 GF and won in 08.
Geelong were regular finalists during this decade & won in 07.

It`s probably no wonder you compare us with Richmond as we are the only sides not to play finals since 01.
Its a joke. It just astounds me that some people are willing to put up with this after all the shelackings, all the ineptness, all the unprofessionalism and all the PAIN.

Yeah lets pretend everything is all rosy and we're gonna be all fine.

That's the attitude that got us into this mess in the early part of this century, or have you forgotten already?

Questions constantly needs to be asked and the club needs to be challenged and not allowed to rest on its laurels, or others will (and already have) go flying past us.

But hey, everything is all fine just because we are ahead of where were in our dark years (lets not mention that you can't sink any lower than where were anyway, shhhh everything is just fine!!).

Who's said everything's rosy and everything's just fine? All that's been said is that it's not as bad as some seem to want it to be.

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

Most of the so called experts stated at the time of our penalties for salary cap breaches, that our progress would be hindered for at least five years.
They were and always were, going to be right.
It is easy to get excited when our team performs well and plays exciting footy, I know I get carried away.
But we are still suffering for what we were found guilty of.
Our list was always going to be thinner than we would have liked.
We are heading in the right direction, maybe a little slower than some would like.

Regards Pedro.

I know for a fact that I'm not in any way responsible for how Carlton has performed on or off the field, and I'm pretty sure BM likewise had no hand at all in our demise, so saying his post will contribute to Carlton being crap is pretty insulting, and downright idiotic.

If any of you lot are responsible, then fair enough, you've got a bit of work ahead of you to get us back up the ladder. It makes sense that you'd be unhappy that we're not top four yet as the guilt trip you've been on for years now must be taking a toll on your mental wellbeing.

But those of us who haven't been the cause of Carlton's fall down the ladder have every right to be happy that we've turned things around this year and spent all but one week in the eight. Even if we lose this week and drop out for only the second time, I should think we'd be back in again not too soon after, with the dream of playing finals in 2009 still alive.

'Questioning' is frowned upon here Nick... makes people very defensive and uncomfortable.
