well looks like he is going to drop himself after all, he has had enough of TC whingers :yikes:

IF Fev doesnt come up, we can't win without him... Pencil a loss for us, even without the dockers having pav and one of their key defenders.

We don't need Fev to win games of football, if that's the mindset of players we have deeper issues than we all realise.

If anything Fev has played his best football under Ratts and is averaging more goals under him than any of the other coaches that had him. Or is it Lappins influence ?????

But Ratts cant coach - Now if Knights was coaching him -10 goals a week minimum plus 50 odd tackles

Yeah but hes the third highest golakicker of all time at Carlton...
(and according to you hes no good)

Been in a much better side too under Ratts than under Pagan....

Remember.. if Ratts drops Fev.. there goes half of Ratts gameplan...
Judd then becomes the whole of Rattens gameplan....

You know what - I don't really care if he is the third highest goal kicker in Carlton's history/the 2nd highest or the 4th highest... does that matter when the big game is finals?

Again it comes back to individual rewards vs team rewards with Fev. As long as Fev is on the Footy Show larking about, as long as Fev kicks a few goals (it doesn't really matter what the team does in comparison), then all is right with the world - Fev's fantasy world that is.

I would be tempted to keep him in the team for one more week with CLEARLY defined roles. (Ask me tomorrow and I would say I would prefer he was dropped.) Even a dummy such as Fev will understand these roles.

1) if your direct opponent runs off you and sets up two forward 50 metre entries/shots at goal for them then you WILL be dropped the following week. There are no ifs, buts or maybes - dropped.

2) He will be used as a decoy forward. Fev to lead into pocket - midfielder running down wing signalling with body language etc to kick to Fev, but instead kick across body to fat side of ground where other forward targets are.

3) any gestures to team mates, hands in the air, body language, sulky, sulky stuff that destroys morale then he will be dropped the following week.

This should be put in writing and is non-discussionable. The team is greater than the "star"...

You know what?
The coaching staff have to have set ups including forward line setups and inside 50 strategies.

Should we be taking a closer look at Judds defensive work too??

Its clear the players didnt have faith in what they have been tutored till now....

And it was right through the team.

I dont mind Walls taking misguided potshots at players... they certainly need a rocket.. and coming from Walls its a non issue.. hes media and he gets a pay cheque for bagging stuff he doesnt understand.

... but when you see supporters and our coaches swallowing it it is really funny.

A few weeks ago he bagged Fev and knee jerked into sending him back to the backpocket we became a laughing stock.
Then Walls highlighted our bottom 6... suddenly we had a bottom six.. like thats some kind of unique thing in a footy team...

And everybody is talking about the" bottom six"

People believe the losses stem from full forward somehow.
Yes his attitude stunk.... but alot of attitudes stunk...

... the question is why do the attitudes stink?

Dropping Fev wont fix anything...

... and weirdly someone is pointing to the meaningless pre season comp when we went in with a bunch of kids against Geelong as some kind of proof we dont need stars.

Of course you need your stars!!!.... all clubs need stars.... stars make things happen in games... but there does need to be some direction.
We lack shape
We lack direction...

If Fevola was Fisher and had the same output we would be rapt.....

For some reason Fev gets the flack cos he must kick 10 each week with a crappy gameplan for us to win a game of footy...
(Or Eddie needs to kick the miracle goals...)

It must be disheartening for that group playing for a guy that has no idea...

Who said we don't need stars? read the post properly.

"Anyone remember the Geelong game pre-season? yes it was a pre-season game, BUT I remember it because we had no stars playing, we had a group of kids who hunted and took the game on wanting a spot come Round 1.

Plenty of people have said no Fev no options up forward. Well you give Harts a run at full-forward without Fev in the team and who knows how he will perform. What we do know is the players who come in will be playing at 100% to earn that spot for another game against Richmond."

The point is about competition, drop a couple of senior players including Fev, bring in some hungry players rusting without opportunity in the reserves and see what happens. Collingwood can do it, St Kilda can do it, Essendon* have done it, yet we are too worried in case we lose. Enthusiasm and change can do remarkable things in life and a team environment.

Worst case we find out we have no options apart from Fev.

Best case we win without Fev and he gets the reality check he needs plus we discover options and a plan B if Fev does get injured and misses the finals.

The trick for any coach is to get the most out of their players.

I believe a good modern day coach is 'worldly' he must have abit of an education... he must have travelled abit.. and he must read a book from time to time.. he must have an understanding of psychology... he must be a strategist... he must be a leader..he must know how to order from a french restaurants.. and understand his wines.. he must be a lover of all sports..he must be a man when he needs to be...he must have read Sun Tzu the art of war' at least 2 times from cover to cover.... he must have themes that he is passionate about outside of footy... these things must help to define him and therefore the team...

you cannot be a steaks and eggs man in this day and age..

i have a feeling we have too many steak and eggs people around the club right now...people that do not understand how the world is changing and their "Carlton swagger" has a small part... but if thats all you come to the table with youre going to get left behind in the stone age...

Nobody can tell me Ratts is getting the most out of his players right now.. or as a team..

Thats what i think....

If we win a game without Fev it will do wonders for the team I reckon.

..i understand why Fev is fustrated, but understanding does not equal justification.. ..not in these instances.. ..i missed the SEN interview but i heard him on MMM and when questioned regarding his poor form vs bummers, his answer was along the lines of "there's 21 other players out there too".. ..he's a little too quick to absolve himself of responsibility, and that part of him simply is not good enough.. ..sure, he's a great player and on talent alone is easily the best FF going around currently.. ..easily.. ..his attitude though brings him back to the pack, and if his talent wasn't as good as it is he'd be in more trouble (come selection time) more often..

..the concern with dropping him is i'm not too certain if it'd help him.. ..but it would help the team.. ..there's often a double-standard when dealing with Fev, probably from percieved desperation in regards to how we can kick goals without him.. ..we know he can be a real team player, but his head-space is more puzzling than suduko.. ..at the end of the day, no player should be exempt from omission due to poor form OR poor attitude..

It seems to me that there isn't a day go by where Fev is not in the Herald Sun......at social events.....at sponsor events.....at Crown poker tournaments.....photos of him with his kids.....photos of him at his books launch where he's signing copies for fans......whoever's doing his PR is making a killing.

How often do you see Riewoldt or Brown or Lloyd in the paper EVERY day?..........never.

I sometimes think he plays as though "this is not everything I do for a living"......pretty casual.

Just my considered opinion.

Didn't hear that, but if true, that's weak, if not at all surprising. It's not his place to deflect criticism onto his teammates.

He has photos in today's HS on two seperate pages and two different articles.....hardly "normal 20 something"...

...(he's 28)...............I can't think of any other AFL player that gets so much publicity.

Well obviously no normal 20 something appears in the Herald Sun gossip pages, but they do like to go play poker, go to social events, go to sponsor events, and spend time with their kids.

I doubt Fev rings up the Herald Sun and invites them to come and take photos of him whenever he wants, more likely they intrude on his private life (like they do with all celebs) to sell papers to people with nothing better to do other than bitch about the private lives of others.

He's being controlled by a PR Machine that's probably allied to VISY.

I'd tather read every day how he's trying to outdo Judd on the training track.
