..agree, the Judd shine has definately worn off, and also as much as i admire him as a professional sportsman.. ..he's our captain by default, and while i'm content (again, by default).. ..he's not the best captain going around.. ..he's great off field and on field, he gets the best out of himself and he leads by example.. ..but he seems to lack that extra edge that not only inspires his team-mates, but also puts that little bit of fear into them.. ..there's a few players that seem to have little fear of dissappointing their captain and team-mates, and from the outside it seems that Judd doesn't get stuck into them enough.. ..i'm clueless as to what happens in the rooms, training track etc etc but on field during the game he seems to be more focused on his own play and getting the most out of himself.. ..sure he brings others into the play as well, but when he should 'fly the flag' or 'put a rocket' under his team-mate he doesn't.. ..he's a bit too professional if there's such a thing, and while he'll give his very best for the club (indeed, for any club) he doesn't 'bleed blue'.. ..not yet at any rate.. ..and maybe not ever, cos as great as he was for WC he didn't bleed 'blue and gold' either..
.. ..also, as much as we had to appoint him captain cos of a leadership vaccuum in the club, i think a few of the more senior/older players might deep down resent how he seemed to walk into the captainship, or the fact that their lackluster attitude/preparation now isn't enough to get them the accolades that they so easily got before his arrival, and subsequent up-staging of them..
..as others have said, we lack bonafide leaders..
When the president gets the players together for a booze bender till all hours........
When people are given jobs by their mates....
When board members protect entry onto the board by others....
When we have the "Carlton swagger " without the groundwork to back it up....
... we do lack leadership... and its not just on the ground mind you...
