Quote:
Statement by the President of the Carlton Football Club, Stephen Kernahan

Former Carlton President, John Elliott recently suggested that payments were made to women to keep them from going public in relation to alleged sexual misconduct of players during his term as President.

Mr Elliott resigned his Presidency in October 2002 and has had no official position with the Club since.

Since these allegations were made the Carlton Football Club has carried out a thorough investigation that has included discussions with relevant people who were involved with the Club during Mr Elliott’s presidency. As a result of these investigations the Carlton Football Club is not aware of the payments referred to by Mr Elliott...

That's a no brainer.

Now he has to deal with the coaching situation

This could be defining week at Carlton.

We've just told one of the biggest names associated with this club to bugger off and want nothing to do with him.

Now our coach must come out and take a stance with the playing group that he no longer will carry fat over weight lazy passengers.

Good statement. I have no problem with the club having a proper look into things before issuing a statement, instead of immediately making comment that is poorly considered. Seems John's days are done... I hope.

Good strong statement, and particularly with Sticks name on it as he is probably the only guy on the committee who has much time for JE or who has had any involvement with him while JE was pres. Hopefully once and for all JE disappears and keeps his gob shut.

I thought it was a bit of a nothing statement, to be honest. Sure the para about Elliott no longer being welcome at the club (for the time being) was good to read, but I reckon the comment could have been more damning towards Elliott. Not to mention being made last week.

I appreciate the club probably wanted to carry out its "investigation" before making a statement, but to the best of my knowledge no communication from the club ever informed the members and greater public that an investigation was underway. But I've been a bit out of the loop lately, so may have missed it if it was.

Never mind that now, the statement is made and we should move on.

John will be back. When the police investigation is over and the dust settles he will be allowed back at the club with his mates but will learn to keep his mouth shut

Why would he learn. Years of precedent shows he never has before.

Can we stay on topic and not turn this into an attack on Sticks and the coach?

Newman's attack on Elliott.

..there's a bit of chatter goin' about that they might even revoke his life membership, which would be a first for the AFL i think.. ..though it's supposedly not easy to do..
