We're still in the 8. If the finals were played now we'd play a team we've beaten the last 3 times. Go figure.

Why? We've won more games than those below us.

= games with Hawthorn and Port.

we have won 4 of past 11 games, around 36%

Just scraping into the 8 proves 1 thing, how the final 8 is just a joke and your just making up the numbers. Nobody takes any team serious that finishes 8th.

Yes, being 8th is just making up the numbers, but look at it in terms of our progression since 2003. We were never going to be top 4 by season's end, no matter how much of an optimist you are.

And you simply cannot take some matches out of context with the whole season. We've won 6.

Add to that, the teams you mention, Hawthorn and Port are similarly inconsistent with us. Hawthorn have dropped matches there's no way they should have, including against WCE, should have by all rights lost to us, and Port have been up and down like a Prossie's panties.

We're about where we deserve to be.

Going by that we should be a top 4 side around 2024 then

Seems there's a few that think natural progression is to go from 8 years out of the 8, straight into the top 4 :donk:

I can handle the loss to Essendon*, just not the way we lost it.

. We got bent over and rammed by one of our worst possible rivals.

If the players are thinking like you and thinking still being in the 8 a positive after Friday's night thrashing then we as supporters are just rewarding and accepting mediocrity. We might as well come 9th every year and be happy.

Not saying we should be top4 but I won't accept crap like Friday night anymore.

although this thread is clutching at straws for optimism, i really needed to find any sense of joy from the sheer anguish i've endured the past week.

Actually theres 3 teams weve beaten the past 3 times: Brisbane, Western Bulldogs and Collingwood

I dont know about the rest of you but i would be rapt to sneak into the 8, that was our aim after all right?

Therein lies the truth.

Most of us were hoping for top 8 and if we just get there most of us will be disappointed! That's what comes of being top 4 twice so far this year and losing those close ones to Hawks and StK and Essendon* and Sydney and Adelaide. If Fev had have kicked that goal for example, we'd be about fifth. (Please no comments about my grandmother).

Collingwood is 4th and haven't beaten anybody of import. They will be tested over the next 4 weeks. Either they or Essendon* will lose next week for starters.
We have beaten three sides above us, which has to prove something. Either they shouldn't be above us or we need to get more consistent.
Hawthorn losing to WCE was a letoff for us. We haven't had a lot of luck this year so let's make use of what we have had.
If we scrape into eighth spot and we have Walker back, plus if Warnock turns out OK or Jacobs is fit, we will be a better side than we are now. Kreuzer is tiring, it's obvious so he needs a break or a role down front. Just stop Fev from crippling him.
All is not doom and gloom, o ye of little faith.

And as we all know, this ridiculous final 8 system means there's no real diff between finishing 5th or 8th. Or for that matter, between finishing 1st or 4th.
:screwy:

Joke of a competition with regards to fixturing. Joke of a finals system as well.

6th to 10th is where I expected to be with the list we've got, unfortunately many on here think we already have a list to be top 4 and are blaming ratts for their lack of judgement.

I had a go at Synners a few weeks ago because he insinuated that a team could actually fall into the 8 by default...I'm starting to think that we maybe such a team..and what is bugging me is that I'm not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing...more from a point of view that it would seem to make things look all rosy (at the coaching level) when IMO I believe they are not.

Patience...I know it hurts...just be patient

Everyone talked up these 6 games, including the one just passed, as winnable and many expected us to shit them in. I said I would be happy if we won 4 out of the 6 considering how even the competition is this year and I predicted we would drop the Essendon* match.

If we lose this week to Freo then we can start to be concerned. Win that and were playing the tanking Tigers and ageing Swans at home, as well as North and the filth who we have the wood over. We can afford to drop one of these games IMO, we might even win them all who knows. Essendon* are a far better side than people give credit on here.

Have faith

If we finished 7th to 9th, I have faith that the MC and above at the Club know where we've come from, yet also know how far we have to go. I don't think finishing 7th or 8th paints a rosy picture, more a realistic one. Whether people choose to use that realistic picture to the Club's advantage is another thing.

Have we only spent one week out of the 8 this year? If true, that's a remarkable effort coming off the back of the Pagan era.

Fair call, but...

Don't worry about the coaching thing.

Finish eighth and you only have to win one more game to win the big one than the team that finishes as minor premiers!

What a joke.
