It's just a rite of passage in Carlton's F50. Fish had his cheekbone broken (twice IIRC) for having the temerity to try to mark a ball that Fev wanted. I guess Santy got off lightly.

I wish Fev put as much effort into teaching the opposition not to contest the ball as he does with respect to his own team mates. Maybe then we'll be able to have a multi-faceted forward line.

fev hAs wrecked afew defenders too..... he would be frustrated

Pagan taught Fev to launch into every marking contest. Told him all the good forwards do that. He is our focal point so it is his job.

He could have been a bit smarter in the Ohalphin incident but all players make mistakes. I doubt he was trying to hurt Carlos nor was he trying to be a hero. Just made a bad call.

Fev should cop a bit for his game but not for that incident.

For those wanting to listen to the interview, 3AW has now posted it on their sports central website. Well worth a listen. Although Effes' review was pretty comprehensive.

Interesting remarks re. the way Judd was held illegally and not protected by the umps (could not see that well from the stand) - seems to me the club should send a DVD to Gieschen with a please explain.

I am worried about how much Ratts refers to stats. I think that can led to loosing the big picture - seems they are sitting in the box and checking indicators and numbers too much.

As someone who has high powered binocoulars, glued to her eyes, I can tell you he is held at most ball ups.

The umpires are flowered when it comes to protecting the ball carriers.

Only divers are protected.

Nathan Buckley and Mike Sheehan were disgusted with how Juddy was handled friday night but saying that, we are happy for Joseph to do the same.

Juddy's team mates need to help him out, NOT THE UMPIRES!

Joseph does not do the same, he backs himself (with pace) at each contest with his opponent by staying right next to him and launches himself when his opponent is gaining possession.

If you hold player and the umpire catches you doing, then you get a free against you.

Very simple.

If AJ wants to play like that, he won't last long.

If you are being held, it is the umpire who judges and makes the call not your team-mates.

McBurney had his head so far up his ........ and looking for frees to pay to Essendon*, that he and his ridiculous friends had no idea what they were supposed to be doing.

Listened to the interview, thought he came across well, no drawn out answers, but I was a little concerned on few points he made.

Firstly, the strategy pre game to rotate both Gibbs and Grigg through Jobe Watson!! absolutely floored me. How can we set ourselves for a win, when we are having to pull back two very talented players back to switch on Jobe Watson. Don't get me wrong, I understand Jobe is able to somehow pick up clearances at will, but with an extroadinary poor effiecency, he cannot run and has arguable the poorest disposable by foot!! He is NO Black or Mitchel !!!!

Nonetheless I understand the need to kerb his influence, sit Banister or reintroduce Hadlee! Why reduce our effectiveness by placing these two players in negating roles.

The second, was the comment on Fisher. Again not too sure why we were so concerned on what influence Fletcher would have, why not put faith in your forward structure and force fletcher to play a negative role.

I sense a little over analysis here, and although I believe that Ratts will learn to be more demanding of his players, his coaching ethos seems to be based on stats. This can be his only undoing! Stats can tell many lies, Jobe Watson is proof of that!!

Follow your instincts Ratts, as you did when you played!!

If you as a player would not have appreciated Fev's antics than don't accept them now!!

Go Blues!!

I would have thought it was a logical decision.
They're not trying to negate Fletchers offensive skills, they're trying to drag him away so Fev could play one on one against an inexperienced opponent.
The plan wasn't completely successful because Fev decided to play for free kicks and to have one of his sooky nights.

all taggers hang on to arms bc the umps dont do anything including joseph, we need to support judd and come across and smash there taggers, we are too soft in that regard

If we rely on the umpires to do anything about it, we'll have to wait for Judd to retire before it will stop. This is something that Carlton needs to do for itself. One of the reasons I was initially happy that Bannister was back was the thought that he'd be running through a tagger or three.

Wet Toast used to do it very well for Judd and Cousins, and we saw the results. They don't anymore and we can see how badly it has affected Kerr. Our Captain Blood does much better at combatting it than Kerr, but would be even more effective if we gave him some chopouts, and knocked his tagger on his arse a couple of times. Let them know that they can't just push, hold and bash our Captain with impunity. Even more than his dummy on Brad Johnson against the Bulldogs, my favourite Murphy moment is when he stood up for Judd at Subi last year. If we see a bit more of that, we might get to see a bit more of Judd being Judd.
