Is contracted for next year on what would be good money.

Should he retire/be retired at the end of this year or go on next year?

Stevens is done. Same category as Fevola. Selfish.

Demands the ball but refuses to go in and get it himself. It actually looks like he pretends to go in for the hard ball at times.

Too slow for the midfield
Not accountable enough to play back
Not hard enough to play forward.

I see Walks coming in and taking his spot for good.

Time he concentrates on building his new mansion and his landscaping business.

Had an absolute howler last night, just as bad a game as I can remember, taking out Ackland v Brisbane of course.

Everything he touched turned to the proverbial.

But at the end of the year, we see what we can get for him - at this stage I doubt anyone will make any sort of play for him but you never know. He's well down our midfield pecking order now and doesn't exactly GTBTEW anymore.

If no one comes knocking, then we hold on to him and see how much he's prepared to fight for his career. Give him one last full pre-season, given we'll be paying for him anyway, and see if he can contribute. Still 9 weeks to go, but really struggling at the moment.

He's contracted and there is no trade offer for him, so we keep him.

Lst night I witnessed Stevens the old man. My god he looked out of sorts against the spring heeled kids.

Sad to say, and I hope I'm wrong, but he's gone and should be relegated to the Ants. Never thought I'd say that. But I'd have Robbo in before Stevens; pity he's suspended.

Nobody would want Stevens unless they were a moron.
We were moronic to give him a 500k a year contract to 2010

One thing I've never been able to fathom is that teams like us with ordinary lists pay our players pretty much the same total $$ (ie. 100% of the cap) as a club like Geelong, packed with stars.

It's the AFL's fault - forcing teams to pay 92.5% of the max to a bunch of kids battlers and crocks with no free agency to bring in quality is a recipe for...Stevens getting $500k in 2010 :screwy:

Someone called him an elite mid on this board today  still

i've been his biggest defender for years, knowing that when the ball is going our way he looks great, but with the ball in the oppositions hands he goes missing. . .

Well on friday night i swallowed my pride and apologised to the boys in the cheersquad front row with the floggers who rate him as highly as troy longmuir. . I admitted at 3qtr time that everything i've defended him over i've been wrong about. . . HOWEVER! I'll vote that he should stay, fact is, to delist stevo, fev etc is a ridiculous theory, and it wouldnt help the club at all. . .without fev and stevens i dare anyone to say we'd win 9games or more next year. . Stevens upside is he'll contribute to winning us many games this year, to single him out for what happened friday (even though i think he was the worst of the worst) isnt the solution.

Not too bad a player its just when he plays bad he seems to take a few teamates with him. I think we will be better with him out of the side completely.

Nothing against him. He has been good for us but not the sort of we want at this time. Maybe his neck has something to do with his bad form, maybe not.

Missed the first 2 games of the year and they were our best.

He should retire.

Exactly. Just wish I'd not held back so much in my desire to have him traded...

There are morons out there but his value now is so low that if there's nothing on the table, you hang on to him to see how much he wants it. Navy blue is more forgiving than red after a poor pre-season.

i just want to point out that its one thing to criticise a players performance, but calling our own players 'morons' and 'weak' and 'pathetic' is totally un-carlton.

Some people may call it 'not accepting mediocrity' but i call it 'being no better than a richmond supporter'. . .no-one is asking anyone to settle for this amazing club of ours to be anything less than the absolute best they can be. But its far easier to get caught up in the dissappointment and anger that we're all feeling and start name calling, than it is to take a deep breath and realise that we're higher at this point in the season than hawthorn was in '07 (the year before their flag) so look deeper than a shocking performance, allbeit a major dissappointment and try and find positives because carlton DESERVE our support because WE ARE the best there is, was, and ever will be. Lets not act like richmond and turn on our own.

The stink coming off Stevo on Friday night was unbearable. Two weeks prior, there was man-love coming from every direction.

When you're turning the ball over as much as he was on Friday, you just have to keep plugging on and hope that your defensive efforts and support acts can keep the ball in a favourable position - give your teammates a chance to set up a takeaway. There were a few times where Stevo had the blinkers on and cut off the 'cleaner' hands taking possession when he could've knocked on or worked his body between the ball and the opposition. That's my only knock on him.

Without a realistic alternative, there is absolutely no reason to talk about moving him on. Not now and not at the end of the year.

It was probably BB, although he's gone a bit quiet since talking players has gone to God :smoking:

Maybe he can earn his pay by landscaping the new facility at Visy Park
