He is finished. He is going backwards with his output. Granted it may be better than a few others in our best 22, but not much.... Nothing more to offer.

I agree definetaly time for a spell in the twos make him realise he actually has to go in and get his own ball and play with hunger, its not about getting 30 cheap touches
Never been the same since he done his neck and won't get many hard balls. Maybe time for a change there. There's others maybe who can do the job better. Either that or try him forward where we can use his skills. Something different at least.

Thought he was probably out best.

God help us if that was the case.

Cam we write to the AFL and get them to cancel the rest of our games? That would be soooo sweet. No more footy for 2009! Heaven!

Might as well if the team and coaches are going to dish up this crap. It would be best for the health of at least 1/2 million supporters.

We have the cattle to consistently beat Essendon* but continuoulsy fail. Talents there, tho game plan, match day execution, match up leave a lot to be desired.

Ratten needs serious help in the coaching box, we should be looking to appoint a Laidley type experienced senior coach as director of coaching to give Ratten & the assistant coaches, development coaches direction, guidance, and advice. IMO too much is left to Ratten and he is not up to it just yet ! Also should review assistant coaches panel, especially the roles of Lappin and Taegue.

The talent is there to beat Essendon* consistently but the problem is that the scum ultimately will probably not be the benchmark.

As a matter of fact the more times we say those kinds of things (at least if the players and the MC do) the more we open ourselves up for disappointment.

what does that make brett ratten ? DUMBER AND DUMBER !!!!!!!!!!!!

he has now coached against Essendon* 5 times and lost the same way every time....we huff and puff along the boundary, kicking to one on one contests in row 8...while we leave the corrdior open for them to attack the heart of our defence !

Let me pose a few questions:

1. why do we refuse to use the corridor at all costs ?

2. why do we constantly take the longest route forward hugging the boundary line and hence limiting the direction of our attacking thrust?

3. why do we still have no kick out strategy ?

4. why do we not flood back and fill out space in our defensive 50's like other teams do to us ? (In the first half both monfries and lucas found space despite us having 15 players back - unacceptable !)

5. why do we always end up having set shots for goal from row 8 of the grandstand (houla, fev, judd, etc etc) ?

6. why did rats not make the statement that had to be made in the 3rd quarter by not dragging fev (and I am a fev fan and have somew sympathy from him ....but consistency in his efforts are required - his chase in the 1st or second on reimers was brilliant but cannot be a once off !) ???

7. Given our current list, are we fuliflling our potential ?

7. do you honestly think that brett ratten has what it takes to coach Carlton to a premiership ?

I just hope that the people who count at out club are trying to work out the answers to these questions....and when they do, are not afraid to act accordingly !

I'll ask again....if brett can't work out the answers himself, for the sake of the club rats undoubtedly loves, please fall on your own sword and allow this group to reach their potential ....whatever that is !

Geez, a lot going on in Row 8 !!

Seriously though, a good post. Ratten apologised after the joke at AAMI a little while ago. Is he going to have another apology for this disgrace ?? Once Sticks comes out and says, "Ratts is safe", we know that Bucks has the gig.

If the blues are serious they'll drop Nick Stevens next week.
He'd struggle to get a game a Melbourne atm but is a walk up start for us.

Good Idea, Lets recruit everyone elses best player like we did with Judd, flower developing our own...thats what losers do. How sweet would that be? Pav, Fev, Brown, Rioli, Betts and Stevie J in our forward line.

Get on it Swanny

Must disagree - for a senior player he consistently turns the ball over. A first year player i expect but not from some one in the game for 10 years. Doesn't or maybe cant run hard enough....the clock i think has stopped for him i'm afraid.

Not in the long run, we'd be stuck with girl-guides as our sixteenth and seventeenth 'men'.

We have enough blouses playing, as it is.

How do you spell p-e-r-s-p-e-c-t-i-v-e?

Wonder how much criticism Clarkson, Lyon and Thompson got in their first few years? I know how he wants us to play but we're still learning to do it for 100 min in game as well as game to game. Thing is we lock them down for a while as we should but don't have the consistency to do it for 100 minutes and in that time they tear us a new one.

Young sides take time. Young coaches are the people for modern footy but with inexperience you get mistakes too as they learn. We fight back in most games we're in trouble, even in defeat. Dropped the bundle tonight. I don't think we're doing too bad.

Now take a Bex and have a good lie down.

And to think I was having such a nice Friday evening. A few after work drinks and getting ready to watch the footy on Channel 7's 3 year delayed telecast, when someone tells me the result. The only positive is that now I am not going to smash my tv watching the game.

Losing... by over 10 goals... to Essen.. I can't even say it.

I'm just gutted.

A question to those who endured the game. Is there anything useful to be gleaned from watching this game, or should I just avoid it completely and assume the worst?

They don't know what to do: whether to play on a man or guard a divot.
Some sort of action is required.

Its the inconsistent effort that worries me - is this inexperience or the coaching staff (ie the coach)?

having said that, we again played the wrong type of side against these guys (at one stage our forward line was Fev (didn't chase much tonight), Houla, Santy,Fisher - all of whom are too slow on the chase - is this a lack of personnel or lack of nous in the coaching box and selection committee? I have a feeling that we as a club are too insular - and maybe it might take not making the 8 this year to make the necessary changes.

The back line tried hard and yes made a few mistakes but at least they have a crack.

Never a great time to post after a 10 goal loss as emotions kick in but i think we are very shallow depth wise and we may not be as good as we think we are.

Time will tell

Ratts presser said it all. "Some of our defenders will learn from that........when to attack and when to stay on their man". Learning from a young Bummers team FFS !!!

Also said, we were slow to move the ball and "I suppose Garlett could have helped there, but Fisher did a really good job and was one of our best......."
