John Elliot is a FLOWER of the highest order.

Given his public experience - he would have known his comments would be picked up - so he should have spoken in general terms and NOT be Carlton specific.

Not to mention (and more importantly) he should have thought about his comments and the effect they would have on the genuine case/cases. Thanks to him - those women are now reliving their nightmare in public.

Unfortunately the club is too weak to punish him in any way. He still has too many high placed friends at Carlton who - like sycophants - still worship the ground he walks on. For these people - he can do no wrong.

Go have another drink Elliot. It's probably already been 5 minutes since your last one.

Sadly Big Jack has really hung himself here and has no one else to blame. He is also going to have to come up with some names for the police as the media are going to report how they treat this to the enth degree. It is going to be an ugly few months.

This is not just about the alleged 1999 incident.

I can understand that there might well be cases where there were lots of witnesses who were apparently convinced and prepared to attest that a claim was bogus and the club's leaders were convinced the alledged player was innocent. Unfortunately for Jack and the club, society is not so tolerant of that way of handling things these days. But really what did him in was mentioning that there was one case that they thought might be different. Having opened his gob he is now going to have to tell the police all he knew about that.

Whether he intended it or not, many of us have found some of his comments regarding women and particularly his reported attitude to their legal rights to be offensive. If he won't issue a detailed apology and explanation I reckon the club must be prepared to kick him out. Maybe he is sorry for what happened under his stewardship. If so he needs to say so pretty quickly and in a pretty convincing manner. Otherwise the board will find themselves under intense pressure to sever all ties with him, much as they might be wishing the genie back into his bottle.

I support Carlton and won't be cutting up my membership card over this, but I really hope that the current board are getting the best legal and media advice right now and listening to it. Massive pressure on Mr Sticks. I'd like to wish him the best of luck. The best thing the players could do this week is tear the bummers a new one. They are a new group and have nothing to do with Elliot's allegations. Wouldn't be the first time that the players have had to show leadership when the whole club needed it. We've got a really exciting bunch of players now and I have faith in them.

JE wouldn't have said anything if JR was still in the 22

A classic case of a bitter old man who has something against the club and dragging it through the mud

Of course we all hope that all the current players respect women the way they should unlike past players.

And it wasnt a good look when Sticks didnt respond to the media yesterday.

The club should hold a press conference today and state the obvious
then let the police handle it. Kernahan needs to stand up to Jack show some balls for a change and not be everyones mate
Elliott has dragged the club through the mud. The club should wipe the mud and him and let the police handle the rest

As for watching the Kouta and Elliott show on Channel 31 Mon night thank flower christ these 2 jerks arnt around the club anymore.

Elliot has always tried to tell the media that the Carlton supporters still love him.

If you bump into him at the "G' on Friday night what one sentence would you direct to him?

I think I would say....

"Why do you continue to embarrass the Club you love every time you open your mouth"

Regards Cazzesman

He was to be speaking at a "Spirit of Carlton" function this Friday in Hobart.
Emails were sent out last night confirming his withdrawal from the event.

It's good to see the past players group doing the right thing.

It would be ironic given all the legal bullets John has dodged that he finally gets done for preverting the course of justice simply because he could not keep his mouth shut.

I normally don't correct errors, but surely you meant "Why do you continue to embarrass the Club you claim you love every time you open your mouth". A narcissist really loves only himself.

An inevitable outcome the way he's travelling...

I agree with all that are angry at him, on the topic though, why aren't other clubs getting pressure put on them to also speak with police? eg the alleged $200,000 payment made several years ago??

The only person speaking out is a woman who wasn't paid, yet the media keep going on about women who were paid. I wonder if these women went to the footy club first or the police first whilst in a traumatised state from suffering horrible abuse.

I would say the majority of clubs would be saying 'thank god the spotlight isn't on us with this topic' - anyone else recall in the early 90's a board member of another club receiving compensation from a player for assaulting his daughter?

The answer to your question is that no other club has a guy like Elliott running around making public comments about what had happened at their clubs. He's made us carry the can for everyone else. No other club is going to come out and say, "Yep, that happened at our club too". Any attempt by the media to widen the net might be torpedoed by the lawyers for the media outlets who might be concerned about whether they can prove those rumours sufficiently to defend a libel action. No such problem when Elliott goes public though.

Is John Elliott currently employed by the Carlton Football Club in any offical capacity? No, nothing to see here then I guess....moving on.

Bingo!

We always ask loudly "Why don't other clubs have to put up with this shit?", "All clubs did this sort of thing back then" and "Why were we punished so harshly when everyone else gets a wet lettuce leaf". The answer is simple. None of those other clubs has had anyone as overwhelmingly stupid or unscrupulous as John Elliott running their organisation. A 'smarter' president would've rorted the cap the way the other clubs do, with property dealings or business opportunities, not with brown paper bags with dollar signs on it. A 'smarter' president wouldn't conduct shonky business practices while at the same time calling attention to himself by attacking the governing body at every turn, or loudly proclaim when teams have breached the salary cap as he was doing the same. A 'smarter' president certainly wouldn't come out and admit to player-rapes and payoffs after 10-20 years out of the blue with no intention of passing the information on to police, all to promote a flowering tv show.

John Elliot is a scumbag of a human being and a flowering idiot in every way. Any punishment he recevies isn't enough.

They pulled the pin on him after about 40 corporates spat the dummy and are now not going to the event. Val perovic is coming instead. They had 150 booked now they have only 90. The past players have hit the roof, and from what i have heard they want nothing to do with him.
