Dick Merton, a good Carlton man from the past, said in today's Herald Sun Letters to the Editor, that
JE was ''only interested in self promotion''.

And the club's directors should ask JE for a ''please explain''.

I think the ''self promotion'' point is valid, but I can't imagine Jack explaining anything to anyone.

He has dug himself into shitters ditch, AGAIN. WTF was he thinking !!!!

Forget about a "please explain". Give him a "please refrain" and "please p1ss off" instead.

This story was front page news at the time. This poor girl has had to live with this for nearly 10 years and it isnt right.
What infuriates me the most is that our former president who would have to be the biggest fool ever to walk this earth has brought it up again just for his own selfish reasons. The girl in question is now reliving it and it has cast a shadow over every other player that was on our list in 1999. Notice the article mentions that Fev debuted in that year? He has, while not accused, been brought under scrutiny now, as has Ratten.
I am not sure why the player has not been named, when Montagna and Milne were accused of a similar assault they were named even though no criminal charges were laid. I believe there are civil charges pending in this case.
I could throttle Elliott, just crawl under a rock and do us all a favour and disappear.

Interview with Fev on the Hun site - Fancy interviewing him about the rape allegations, while he appears to be at a school.

Police want to speak to John Elliott over 'hush money' claims

Quote:
Mr Elliott, who was Carlton president from 1982 until 2002, could face charges of perverting the course of justice if he was involved in paying off alleged sexual assault victims.

IF he DID do it and IF the club knew ANYTHING about it then why didn't the club just turf him straight away instead of keeping him around for 2 more seasons (2000 and 2001) assuming they were told of the allergations in 1999 ??? I never really heard of him before, and he was just some guy taken off the rookie list in 1999, playing a total of 15 games for his career.

No doubt that's one of the questions Jack will be asked by the fuzz

I'm all for putting Jack in prison (won't happen though), but so help me if he drags the club through the dung heap again to save his own arse I'll flowering lose it

i've always maintained in years past that everything John did, he did with the best interests of the club at heart. . .however, this is just sheer stupidity. There's no rationale for this to be made pulic, it doesnt help him, the club, the league, or anyone.

Im friendly with his brother richard, who frequents a restaurant i work in. And im aching for him to come in soon so i can pick his brain.

Just stupidity, eh? Couldn't have anything to do with the TV show he's trying to sell, could it?

if you or I dragged the club through mud like Elliott has this week we would be suspended from membership

Elliott should not be treated any more lenient than any other member

just try and forget for one minute about how the club is feeling and think of how the woman involved is feeling

Yeah, his reaction to the woman's plea today took him beyond stupid to purely contemptible.

Kouta, disassociate yourself with him, NOW

It's called blackmail, or demanding money with menaces

There was plenty of blackmailing of clubs going and most of the time the stories were made up by alleged victims who were easy to see through, but better off out of sight.....easy money.

There was one girl who got $60K out of a club (not Carlton) for a real assault...I'm sure that was late 80's.

There's a story  of a girl who wanted to do the business in the middle of Victoria Park one evening in the early 90's. When the player rejected an ongoing relationship, she claimed rape...you can guess the rest. I don't think she was unhappy, just selfish and vindictive.

Every single club had issues which were better covered up...hush money (brown paper bags) were just the right medicine.

Geez...theres squillions of stories...well not all stories when you hear it from women's mouths. If every case involving hush money was made public then there would be no football stories reported as the Journos would be busy writing about alleged cases 365 days a year for next 10 years.

Elliot is an idiot and blackmailers...well they just run a business...easy money.

My bet is $5K was paid to some women who were not assaulted but because they made noise they got what they wanted....not as much as was paid for serious offences...from what I recall.

From yesterday's Herald Sun........

"Premiership Coach Robert Walls last night accused Elliott of smearing the good name of several Coaches, players and Officials at the Club in his time there."

"He said Elliott had been ushered out of the Carlton rooms a fortnight ago while in an unfit state; and was on the verge of becoming an irrelevant dinosaur"

This is a great test of Sticks leadership.
The club is finally getting back on it's feet, and this moron surfaces again.
Kouta should quickly end his relationship with him, otherwise his image will be forever tarnished.
Sticks should tell him to f*** off, the alleged victim should pursue all legal avenues available to her, and Kouta should run a mile.

He regrest saying it when he did.
It was silly at best to dredge it up again but can't be unsaid. The alleged incidents happened some 10-20 years ago and as has been said here by other posters, the one doubtful case did go before the police and was mucked up so no charges could be laid or substantiated. Not CFC fault, not JE's.
JE said he thinks there were about 5 separate cases. Four were no contest IHO and one might have been doubtful. If they all agreed to take the money and do nothing further, it was their decision. I am neither advocating nor defending this as a means to resolve such issues, far from it but they all had the opportunity and right to persue matters through legal channels and didn't. I'm not just talking about the Carlton cases, either. Let's noty forget the more recent Sydney payout of $200K with a confidentiality clause attached. If the alleged victims were happy at the time, why are we so indignant now?
For those of us bristling with said indignation at how things unfolded back in those days, please let justice take its course and not judge people on innuendo perpertrated here on TC. None of us has the right to be judge and jury.
Someone earlier asked about the mods and innuendo-based posts. I find it incredible that they will lock up a site because people are bickering, but will happily allow anonymous slander of a member of the public. So much for their 'new' rules pf participation.

Also:
Why is it that as usual Carlton is being dragged through the mud when as recently as last week, it was mentioned about the North and Sydney hush money scandals and nothing further has been said about either?
