Even his biggest fans would be battling to defend that.

I dunno........ is he actually doing the club any damage? I mean, the majority of people - especially media people - know he's dial-a-quote. Does this story make any difference?

I can see how its a tough situation for Coutts since he's a stooge with no courage and no idea of media in the new millenium, but surely this is the chance to take the moral high ground and offer the football world a second mea culpa?

Jack's efforts through the days of paper bags, paper shredders and shiny metal cups has probably earned him the right to have free reign over his comments. That doesn't mean CFC post-2000 can't put in some spin work.

If the 'outcry' reaches a point where comment needs to be made, surely its best to get on the front foot and say 'Yes, we paid some hush money. As the President at the time has said, we were in the habit of pay first, ask questions never. So, for all we know, they were false accusations. There has been enough water flow under the bridge since those days to suggest that we were taken for a ride. Notwithstanding the fact that non-match related football journalism employs a significant number of individuals, surely ACA or TT would've been knocking on our door some time ago if we weren't.'

He's a fool for bringing it up now, but he's a dog for covering it up in the first place. I'm not surprised he paid them off given his own track record.

I don't give a shit about it being different 'back then'.

His treatment of woman is not squeaky clean. In fact he did something at an AFL function in his latter years of his presidency which caused significant problems and was one a the many reasons the AFL wanted him out.

He actually brought it up where it might have stayed in-house but somebody who was there has obviously gone to the press to get it back in the public eye.
Jack was highlighting the fact that in the seventies and eighties, there were about 20 accredited AFL journos and nobody had the time to spend digging around in players' private lives like they do now, and gave this as an example of the difference between then and now. If anything it just proves his point, that there are so many journos now, they have to bring up this sort of stuff to get paid every week.

I was there so I am not quoting a third party.

If you have not met him or don't know what he does for charity, please don't make grandiose statements about who or what he is in your opinion. And don't be so quick to jump on a bandwagon that has been set rolling by something blown out of proportion and without knowing the context. And for those in the know, without him, Richard Pratt was no certainty to come back to the club. We can thank him at least in part for that. It wasn't just Sticks.

This story is years old and was all over the papers at the time. No need for the now generation to get hysterical because they didn't read about it the first time around. It was accepted practice in those days for clubs to have internal investigations into alleged off-field indiscretions and resolve them in-house. Almost all clubs had instances like this. There may well have been cases where women were paid off for real player indiscretions but it was pretty well-known that there were also some women looking for a few dollars who used the system to their advantage. They all had the opportunity to persue their cases though the legal system but didn't.

It's little wonder charities have so much difficulty getting people to help them out when there are so many people who are so happy to run to the media for their thirty pieces of silver with any snippet of controversy that might emanate from their lips. Fortunately, Jack helps when he can, even though he knows he is a soft target.

Say what you like about how he went as president of Carlton in your opinion but please don't defame him from behind the safety of anonymity when you don't know the details. It's just as bad as paying off an anonymous person to shut their trap.

Fair enough, but he still should shut the flower up. Period.

Robert Walls has just a had a go at Elliot on tv, saying how he is embarrassing the club and cant just say things like he did and then walk away.
Said that Kernahan is keen to bring him back into the fold and at the St Kilda game he had to wisked away quietly because of his behaviour.
I just wish this idiot would go away and shut his stupid mouth, he has implicated every Carlton player that played during the time he mentioned and it is not fair.
Go away Jack.

I thought we deleted unsubstantiated rumours on this forum? Even if it's in the media, it's all a load of bollocks until someone with a reputation can back the statement up.

The discussion as I see it is centred on Jack rather than the allegations he's made. Play on.

Elliott is a disgrace.

It's all publicity stunt for his Channel 31 show.

F&*( off, Jack.

I think the culprit for that specific example of pearcing the Football Club veil is relatively well known - such a pity for both a) the victim involved and b) the Club who have to endure the speculation of the perceived / accepted mismanagement of this whole story. 10 years ago and the victim still seems lost out there.
