After a great effort against the Aints, I really don't want to dwell on what could have been so I will move on immediately.

Quite simply this Essendon* game cannot be lost. Losing to the scum again is not an option. We all know how they have beaten us the last 3 times, so we simply must make sure they are not allowed to go through the corridor and that AJ put some serious hurt on that rat, Lovett who has killed us 3 times in a row.

Win this game and we are on our way. I don't like to get ahead of myself but I really think we could win the next 6 and cement oursleves in the top 4

Go Blues

We got one of the first looks at their new game plan this year, and then again from the blokes who copped it first in Freo.

Maybe we don't need to game plan for many of their players but we have got to game plan for their tactics. Have the personnel and the mentality to absolutely steam roll this pack of shit kickers.

I expect nothing less.

If we play like we did against S(aints),then we will thrash the bombers.
I DON'T doubt we will make the top 4 now, because we are better than the doggies when we are on our game.
Hawthorn.....who knows....Geelong....not yet..depending on who's back for us next time....maybe we could get the saints.
One thing I know....we WILL get the Saints next year, and we will SMACK those bombers.(easily)...probably....errrrrr....mostly.

In hindsight the team that played Essendon* in Round 3 was probably a bit slow with the likes of Jacobs, Hadley and Cloke. Not this time however!!

Not sure about what changes to make from the St Kilda match however:
1) I think we should bring Thornton back in the side.
2) I like what Garlett adds to the side and his goal in the 1st qtr was a real boost.......however at the end of the day he only got 4 poss's against the Saints so maybe another stint for the Bullants wouldn't hurt. He is still young so there is no rush. Maybe Yazz could come back in if he plays well for the Ants.

We will need to put a hard tag on Watson (Grigg?) and keep Lovett, Stanton and Winderlich on a leash.
Armfield would be a good matchup for Davey.
Ryder is their only ruck so lets exploit them in this area.

As I said in the other thread, I expect Thornton in for Houlihan, with Austin playing up forward, depending on team balance. Garlett and Armfield kept in for specific reasons. Tempted to bring in another small, possibly for Hampson, if matchups dictate (i.e. - Ryder remains their sole ruck with Lucas as back up). AJ to go to Lovett, Bannister to Monfries, Bower to Lucas, Thornton to Lloyd, Jamison to Neagle.

B - Joseph Thornton Jamison
HB - Bannister Bower Browne
C - Simpson Judd Gibbs
HF - Carrazzo Austin Grigg
F - Betts Fevola o'hAilpin
R - Kreuzer Stevens Murphy
INT - Garlett, Hampson, Armfield, Scotland
EMERG - Bentick, Russell, Hartlett

Their run has obviously been the biggest issue past 3 games, so I'm glad we'll have 2 weeks off before we play them, the freshness in our legs will negate that run to some extent.

The extra week's preparation will give us every chance to plan for this game and get 100% focused - it served us well v Tiges in Rd 1.

AJ on Lovett, FFS.

No Hille to monster us in the ruck.

No excuses, Blues, they're there for the taking.

We MUST WIN this game.

No ifs and no buts.

They will be thinking the same thing.

We have to take the same intensity against the Saints to this gig...and the run on at all costs.

We must improve with our tags on their dangerous midfield players (Watson, Lovett, Stanton)

WE must do a lot better with our kick ins than the round 3 effort.

Hille is out so that's a bonus.

Leaping Hampson vs leaping Ryder. May the tallest man win. This will be a great duel.

Banno on Watson
AJ on Lovett
Grigg on Stanton

I really like the idea of Austin/ Thornton in a FP next to Fev (2 marking targets)

I want to retain Betts and Garlett in the forwardline for the pressure they exert.

Likely in is Thornton
Likely out is going to be very unlucky

After seeing the Ants today, I can't see anyone knocking on the door to be selected against the scum.

Very slight chance to Fisher ( kicked 6) & Robinson(went in hard but his disposal & decision making were not real flash.)

Garlett might go, although he does bring something to the table and would be a bit unlucky for this game where pace will be important. He will be good but maybe not just yet on a week to week basis. If Thornton is to come back, it is unlikely they will trade a 'tall' for a quick, more likely the other way around. Essendon* is a much quicker team than we are so we aill need more pace if possible.
That said, Houlihan, who looks slow but isn't, may get another run-with role like he had on Fisher last week as a defensive forward. He didn't get as much of it as usual but Fisher was shut down completely so Houla did a great job. IMO he will stay at HF in a defensive role and that will discourage his opponent to take too many risks a la Fisher, who didn't try and run off him. Too dangerous if the footy gets turned over. Houlihan will usually make you pay.
Judd is a worry and I hope his nose doesn't turn out to be a problem for the next game. He is too important for something so minor to keep him away. If he ends up with a nose like Syd Jackson, Rebecca might leave him!
Lloyd killed us last time. If we can afford it, I'd have Setanta on him. The backline is getting settled but lacks a bit of height and sooner or later, Ratts will have to decide where Seanta will play. CHF is not it in the long term but he did well on Lloyd once before and intimidated him to boot.
This game may well decide where this season is heading. The Saints game showed what we are capable of and it is the game we have to take to the ground every week.
It will be a ripper of a game for those diehard VFL/AFL rivalry supporters. There is no doubt that Richmond, Collingwood and Essendon* are going to present us and the AFL with some fantastic encounters over the next five years in finals. Let's start this year by knocking Essendon* out of the race, reminding Richmond where they are relative to us and then disposing of Collingwood down the track.
It starts next weekend.

Thornton is 50/50 to return for the Bombers game, if he misses that one he will definetly play the following week (unless he has a setback with his hamstring).

I think it's fair to say we have a better line up (apart from Waite) than the last time we played them, and theirs has been weakend.

The BlueBaggers by 37pts!

Simply we don't match up well against the Bombers. They will force us to play a shoot out style of play to which they will probably come out on top

Will be a test to see how disciplined our team is, if we can pressure and choke the Bombers we can win this game but if we get a head of ourselves and become to attacking we will lose.
