Its amazing the frees that Fev doesn't get. FFS if they're there pay 'em, but as has been said ad nauseum on here before, he just digs a hole for himself by asking for them all the time, as the maggots refuse to pay whingers.

Early in the first quarter Fevola had:

- chopped arms
- across the neck
- push in the back

in the same marking contest - umpire said play on - apparently he needed to see a knife sticking out of his back before he would pay you any of those  .

Brought us into the game during the second quarter and kept us in the game in the third - went of half way through the last quarter totally exhausted - heroic effort from Simmo.

Sensational effort but we may have been expecting too much from Garlett in this game.

Fev did pretty well working into the contest considering the woeful delivery he got. Hudghton was brought back into the contest because of some of our kicks to him. He was extremely nervous in front of goal, Betts too. Between the two of them there was about 4 goals we missed out on that they would normally drill. Pressure got to them.

Not so everyone else (save for Mr Vozzo). Really satisfied with their performance and it takes the sting out of another loss to the hilarity that continues to be St Kilda. Geelong will crush them like a twiglet.

Yet Goddard was paid a free in the last when he ran into Kreuzer's arm as Kreuze grabbed for the ball.

They hardly missed one Aints free in that first quarter. I remember cheering at about the 23 min mark when we finally got one   . The interchange steward tried to make up for it later

I don't reckon he has had his flag lowered this season. An absolute Jet and super important to our side.

Worst post of the year. Garlett is a rookie kid who has freakish abilities and is only going to get better. Its when guys like him get to 50 games that we win our next flag...........not RUSSELL (did you really say that ???????????????????????) or CLOKE (what the ??) or.........................................................HARTLETT (FFS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Great effort by the boys tonight. I reckon tonight was a "line in the sand" game for us. We harrassed, tackled and pressured most of the game, and even early on we kept coming back even when down 5 goals. Fev should have got at least 4 more frees, and I'd like to hear the Geesh's explanantion of that one in the first quarter, whereas Reiwoldt gets 90% of his.

Hoops goals and we win, simple as that. And that was against a team that most say are palying
the Cats for the cup. When Gibbs and Murphy develp physically enough to stand up in those
games, and we get 1AW and 206 on the park, we'll be a contender.

The kid might be a star in the future but the fact is in the biggest game all year he touched the ball 4 times .I don't have an issue with kids getting a game but we are doing it at the expense of the result. It is good for the future it is bad for the now .One more bigger body a handful more possesions and we win .
Unlike 2004 Ratts doesn't sacrifice develop for wins
Yarren will come in for 2 or 3 after the break

Its tough to get the balance right. Bringing in Bannister showed that Ratts knew we needed seasoned bodies, but hard to drop Garlett after last week. Russell has had enough time to show he's more than just a below average AFL player. Would love to see Yarran come on as expected.

i know what you mean but it rarely happens for any side. Our injuries are fast tracking our development without a doubt. Since Jacobs has been out Hampson's development has doubled in my opinion.....and that's observing from NL!!! Austin in for Waite the same!

You need around 30 players capable of doing the job and we are starting to get to that number finally.

I'll rephrase. I want a team full of our most critical players to pick from for once. Waite, Thornton, Walker, all of whom are critical to our structure. Our midfield is so strong that if we lose someone, we've got guys who can come in. The guys we're always missing at one time or another are all guys that we can't replace.

I don't think we really missed thornton TOO much tonight, seemed to cope with his absence.

Waite or Walker could have potentially been matchwinners though - or Warnock more to the point.

Stevo was in and out of the match.

He definitely needs to increase his input into the match, for mine. The skills are there, but he can be lazy at times.

I didn't think he was too bad.

Stevo was our worst player tonight.
Tried hard, but just wasn't his night. Not good form coming up to a a crucial Bombers match...

Back from the game and just had to watch the first 5 minutes on TV on record on account of the umpiring. The free against Fev for in the back was disgraceful. He then gets mauled in a marking contest. No free. They then get all the momentum. Those few minutes of madness cost us the game.

I don't want to take what is essentially the shine off a good game despite the result, however, Houlihan's last quarter was certainly nothing to be proud of. The panicked hospital handball over the top to Judd in the forward 50 to avoid contact, and then a bit later when hes either paddled the ball on or chipped it along the ground straight to, as BH has pointed out, 3 uncontested St Kilda defenders, rather than put his head over it, were just plain frustrating.

All things considered, I'd be dropping him well before Garlett for the Bombers game, possibly for Thornton, and play Thornton or Austin forward instead.

I think Houla made quite a few fumbles and errors in attack, and didn't play his best.
But as someone said, he did a fair defensive job on Fisher

50/50 - certainly wouldn't be upset if he kept his spot against the Bombers

"that was the worst umpiring performance i have ever seen"

it just keeps getting worse

well done blues on a gallant effort

They pay Lloyd and Monfries.
Maybe Fev should just start diving and pulling his socks up...... couldn't hurt his chances

I think the role that Garlett was supposed to play in this game was always going to be ambitious,
and I think in general he played it well.

I certainly don't think he had a shocker, and if you see the watch the way he makes defenders crap their pants with his closing speed - that is half the reason why he is playing.
He is a burst player, and may get a rest soon for a couple of games.

very happy with his progress and not unhappy with his inclusion or output tonight

Also RE: the umps

I think we also got away with a LOT
and in general it seemed as they were not playing anything.

not sure if we really were so disadvantaged as a lot of ppl here are making out...
Fev should have given away a 50 with his crude off the ball hit on (I think it was) Dal Santo

however i disliked the umpiring style and i think it encouraged rough play and holding
certainly think that judd's broken nose *might* have been avoided if they kept a tighter reign on the game
