If you look at the Saints form the last 3 weeks, even though the've won, it hasnt exactly been that impressive to think we'd get smashed tonight...

vs Brisbane - close win against a team we've beaten twice this year.. Aints were losing until some flukey late goals by the Tip Rat gave them the points
vs Melbourne - they struggled in the 1st half against the bottom of the table side
vs Nth Melb - Only overpowered the Kangas once North became terribly undermanned in the 2nd half..

If we get the match ups right, and shut down their play makers, we're a chance for an upset...

Forgetting the Yarran-Rich debate, we need a Michael Hurley type to play on the Justin Kositzke type for the next 5-10 years. That was a real opportunity missed.

Not sure how that is an opportunity missed when Hurley was taken by Essendon* with pick 5. There weren't many 'Hurley types' in last years draft.

Glad it's not Judd taking a dump in the premiership cup on the front of the Hun today.

My apologies. I just had four shots for goal using paper clips and my office doorway, and I missed all of them.

we can beat this mob. We are on a roll. They must lose sometime. We have Judd. They don't. King is out. Kosi ready to display his lack of peripheral vision and knock Riewoldt out. Milne underdone. Joseph ready to take another scalp. Betts to kick 3 plus. Fev to kick 6. We win by 11 points. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSS!!!
The Friday Oracle predicts:
As above for Betts,Joseph and Fev.
A spectacular 2 from Hoops,
2 or 3 from Juddy, plus brilliant team effort.
Goals from unexpected people and places..(ours..not theirs lol)
Too close to call...or....wait...the mists are clearing....Blues by 16....(or is that grigg to have a blinder??)

How so? Essendon* took him before we could.

Our currently healthy percentage is as good as win for us this season, so our first aim for tonight should be to not get smashed. Keep it as tight as we can. We've really struggled against these guys, and we just can't afford to go down by 10 goals.

If we can somehow pull out a win, great. But if the Saints bring their A game, we're not yet good enough to beat them. While never happy to lose (ok, I was extremely happy to lose - and therefore win Judd and Kruezer - against Melbourne) as long as it's relatively close, I'll be satisfied.

course, if we win, I'll be rapted to the eyeballs.

Agree, their so and so efforts past few weeks makes you think they may be "due" for a loss.

Kosi is the BIG issue, just wish Jamo's shoulders weren't so iffy in case he's needed for him. I have full confidence that Bower can control Riewoldt.

Going tonite thinking that we are some hope against an unbeaten team is a welcome change from the past few years.

I mentioned in the other Carl v St K thread how North went man on man last week, and until they lost players, it worked a treat. Ratten mentioned in his presser that he had noticed the same thing, so maybe they will try the same thing? I hope so...my fear is that if we zone, we'll get dismantled on the rebound.

The other absolute must tonight AFAIC is to play Kreuzer at CHF. We need to put scoreboard pressure on them, we need to stretch their defence. Hampson has a much better hit to advantage % anyway, time to give him the responsibility of first ruck.

My feeling is that against better opposition, we have been a bit reactionary this year...it's been about how to stop them. Time for us to take the initiative and say to the opposition, 'how are you going to stop us?'. Fevola and Kreuzer up forward will give St Kilda plenty to think about, with Betts, Houlihan, Garlett, Murphy and Judd running through there (I'd go the 2 gun talls, 4 smalls option tonight...might unbalance them with Hudgton, Dawson and Fisher in their backline).

Oh, and don't let Fisher be loose across half back!

Like the Krooze thinking, and agree. Fight fire with fire. Why do we have to be alone in worrying about twin towers? Why don't we make the Saints sweat about our twin towers.

But can Hammer do 80% of the ruck work?

Yes, one wonders when looking at our team selection how much emphasis is actually on protecting our percentage rather than going all out to win.

I hope they're playing to win this thing. Playing to protect % is a terrible idea. It's round 12 FFS. If it was round 22 and we had an equation to consider then fine. But at this point subverting a game plan to save a few percentage points is a mugs game and I'd be shocked if that's what the plan is.

If the plan is to close the game down because that's the best way to win, then fine. Otherwise the're crazy

I can see that suggestion becoming "fact" later tonight.

There is absolutely no way Ratts would be going into this game trying do anything other than win. He would see this as a great chance to see where we're at.
