Seriously, something's gotta give sooner or later - streaks don't last forever, it doesn't matter how good you are. Just ask :garthp: about 2004

This ain't 2004. :smoking: :garthp:

They're looking good the saints. This streak could easily go 23, even 24 games.

A key difference this time compared to the teams we've sent in to play the Saints over the past 5 years is that we actually have players other than Fevola that they have to worry about.

We've got to find ways to cover Kosi, Riewoldt, Dal Santo, Hayes, Ball, Milne...

This time they've got to find ways to cover Fev, Judd, Murphy, Gibbs. Wouldn't it be nice to add Waite to that :-(

Still got far more quality across the board than us but if we get off to a good start and win the ball in close... who knows.

Half back lines will be where this game is won and lost for mine. St Kilda maul sides across half back.

I've only been to winning games this year so dammit I'll head along to the dome and do my bit.

I think our young side enjoy being the underdog. I don't think we have the expierience to deal with the favourite tag well YET.

I think the Saints are in for a tough night. We have every right to feel we're right in this one.

Blues by 12 Pts

Even if the Saints win they'll still know "We're Coming".... :fight:

I'm going for a look but we won't be smashed in the clearances or hard ball gets, We'll be smashed in the coaches box.

T-Bird has struggled big time against Revolt b/c he leads too fast and too often. I would play T-Bird in a supporting role to assist those who get the jobs - probably Jamo and Bower.

We got most of the match-ups right against the Lions.

Someone made the good point that the wins we've had this year have been against teams we beat last year - until we beat a team that employs zones well, like Sydney Adelaide St Kilda and Hawthorn, or until we can overcome the Bombers' speed game, the progress and maturity of the team and coaches will be in question.

St Kilda do seem beatable at the moment, why not this week?

That's a fair point, but for a kick which brushed the post, we had Hawthorn on toast. And that's after hauling in a 4 goal deficit.

I don't think this is the thread for bad rhyming.

Tackling is going to be a key element to this game.

Look at how well does Garlett, Armfield and Eddie Betts tackle...great stuff. They are the benchmark.

I think Grigg and Gibbs need to aim to improve their tackling and pressure by 5-10% for this match. Gibbs' wavy wavy arms stuff really is only effective less than half the time. Get in there and force the turnover.
Grigg needs to make his tackles stick where possible too. They are great in other elements, but just pressure 5-10% better and it could assist.

There are a lot of quality Saints players that can hurt us:
Goddard
Gram
Kosi
Montagna
Hayes
Ball
Dal Santa
Reiwoldt
(Milne out injured?)

Plus Fisher and Hudghton are a couple of mean defenders.

We will have to be our best and hope the Saints are a bit off their game.....a bit like they did to us in 95.

Joseph on Montagna.
Armfield on Schneider
Grigg on Dal Santo (did well on him last year)
Jamo on Riewoldt (did well on him last year in the 2nd half after Waite was moved off him)
Bower on Kosi - if this doesn't work then Setanta
Judd/Murph head to head with Hayes/Ball

Need to make sure the likes of Goddard/Gram don't give them easy rebound from defence......maybe Grigg to do a hard tag on Goddard and Gibbs to go against Dal Santo in the middle.

This is spot on, Well done

Saints by 45 pts.... Kosi in good touch, Waite normaly gets Reiwoldt so we are stuffed there. Their midfield is tough and we struggle against tough midfields ( eg: Hawks, Adelaide ).. and Fev always get beaten by Hudgton.

There were 15 teams in 1991 so the Eagles probably had at least one 'bye' by this stage.

I really wanted St Kilda to win against the Kangas to avoid them on the rebound.

I thought the Kangas really took the game up to the Saits with their one on one strategy. In the end, it was either St Kildas class or (what I believe) Kangas inuries, effectively playing with 17 men in the 4th Q which got the Saints over the line.

Saints looked tired to me, and winning trots are difficult to maintain. Every week the Saints a getting closer to a loss. I expect them to drop 2 or 3 games this season.

We may have got them at the right time, and given we have a bye following this game, I expect the boys to throw themselves like lunatics at the contest, the man and the other man.

Saints have the more experienced list, but we have a few match winners who could get us over the line.

I don't think this game will show any revelations. We all know their strengths and ours. The match ups will be important, but I don't expect that tagging will be a feature around the ground as I'm confident to put Judd Murphy, Gibbs, Stevens, Simmo, Carrots, Grigg and Scotto up against their on ballers.

If King is suspended, Gardiner will be back. I expect them to play both. Our young ones Kreuzer and Hammer will up against these seasoned bodies, but we can run them off their feet.

AJ for Montagna (a must)

The twin towers up forward for them are mu biggest concern and we have to put a muzzle on Milne (I'b give Armfield first crack at Milne).

Bower and Setanta vs Rewoldt (Reiwoldt is very mobile and has a really big engine)
Jamo and Setanta vs Kosi (imo Kosi is too tall for Jamo and with Jamo's shoulder issues...)
Thornton the 3rd man up, perhaps Bower could be.

If we can hold those above we can really give this game a crack.

Saints are definetely favourites and should win by 5 goals, but I did have a firm belief that if Saints go in undefeated against us, we will have a good opportunity to knock them off.

I'd bring Austin in the forwardline for Fish. Saints pace from the backline is the reason why I worry about the Fish.

The lead up to this game is going to kill me.
We can be 7-5 at thebreak or 6-6.
I know which one I prefer.
