We've had a tiny glimpse of Yarran so far so let's see who's game enough to predict what role will Yarran predominantly fill when he matures in a few years time?

I think if his fitness base grows he'll be a gun midfielder ala Simon Black.

I like this half-back business.... I would definitely be keen to see him play a whole game in that role in the seniors depending on the match/injuries.

If he does have a habit of going missing in games playing him at HB could be the best thing for him and we do miss a really creative defender with reliable footskills

The good thing about Eddie and Garlett playing well this year means that we can take our time with Yazz and not put too much pressure on him to make an instant impact at senior level..

Hard to see him playing the McLeod role off Half back given our lack of goal kickers.

More likely a Ryan O'Keefe type role around the HFF with stints in the middle as his aerobic capacity grows.

Junior Burgoyne

Port played Shaun in the back pocket for about 4 years before graduating to play on ball in his break year in 2006. Yarran definitely has a similar style and has the evasiveness to be used at throw ins like how Port use Lade and Burgoyne.

His decision making, disposal and evasive skills are excellent so he just needs to build his endurance, strength and not to have lapses in concentration.

I think he'll be a Chris Yarran type player...

Can see how a few games as a teenager off half-back will help his development, but he'll be a creative forward who is excellent overhead and thus a bit harder to match up on than say, your Matthew Stokes type player. Hopefully, in time, he'll be able to have spurts in the middle - but kicking goals is what we recruited him for and forward is where I'd like him to play and stay.

Hopefully he'll be good enough to get a regular game and tag Rich when we play Brisbane.
The recruiting staff must be getting a bit nervous about their decision, given that Rich was tagged last night and still played a great game. Meanwhile we are waiting to see how Yarran goes in the twos.
I know some players take a bit of time but Rich oozes class. Garlett and Robbo have shown more so far than Yarran. He will need to improve a bit to justify his high selection ahead of Rich and Zeibell, both of whom are ahead of him on current form.
He looked good a couple of times the other week when he managed to get clear. That's the light at the end of his tunnel.

I'm happy to see Yarran make his own imprint on the game. He can take the time to develop properly, whilst we have Eddie and Garlett filling the small forward roles. However, he'll get a few more games in the 1's to give him a taste of what's expected over the next few pre-seasons in terms of fitness and strength.

Yes, whilst I was a fan of taking Rich before Yarran, I think Yarran will develop into a midfielder/forward once he builds his engine, so I believe he'll be more than just a one position player, which is what Rich is and really will be, and a good one at that.

As some have suggested, he may do an apprenticeship on the HBF, to devleop the defensive side of his game.

My early prediction is that we have selected the wrong player and he will ultimately prove to be a big disappointment. I can't undrstand why we just accept that he is not fit. Why? Rich, Ziebell & Hill have no issues with fitness so far as I can see.

I have seen nothing that warrants his slection as our first round draft pick and it wouldn't surprise me if he ended back in WA sooner than many of us would imagine.

It's only my opinion (I know most will disagree) but I have to call it as I see it.
