Yep, that was one of those moments for me when I was thinking to myself "Is that guy really 200cms, flower me!!"

That was a great passage in the game. I reckon his confidence is growing by the minute too. I would expect to see him take the No. 1 ruck spot in tandem with 206 next year - provided 206 stays on the park of course.

Kreuz can cause some headaches down forward and float onto the ball every now and then I reckon.

My highlight was Hampson's run and dash in the third. Not only has he the dash but he is very solid for a tall player.

Also thought that Army, AJ & Browne provide grunt and solid attack on the ball and player. Armfields attack and run in the third was fantastic he took the player on and clearly won the battle.

Hammer will cause MASSIVE headaches once we learns to tap it to advantage more consistently.

Also: Not much mention of Setanta so far - thought he did some great things and well done for his 50th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[quote="Agro jr"]Pros:

Bowser and Jamo played really really well considering the firepower they were up againts, but in the last half, espec. the last qtr they seemed to be focused too much on the player in contests, resulting in shots at goals from frees, theyve got to learn to bcak themselves and use whats been working the whole game for them.

Bower has to learn to back himself???????????????? Are you kidding, thats what he does all the time....

Thought the same at first but I think he's refering more to Jamo who got sucked in to watching Bradshow rather than the ball. Several times he was in better position but moved behind Bradshow to punch rather than take front position.

Bower backs himself to the point where you're on the edge of your seat wondering "how the hell he's going to get out of this one" ... inevitably he does. A huge PRO this game and this year and has grown with the added responsibility of playing Waite's role.

Agree with the comments re Santy, thought he was really good a real positive. Delivery to Fev was brilliant and going back with the flight in the last to help out the defence was great. He's so versatile and gives Ratts so many options. Want to see him keep his body right and go to 100.

All the controversy and bitching aside, was glad that he stepped back for a week and the team was better for it.

Great Team Performance !

A con from last night was that when things got tough it was still left to Juddy to pull us out of it. Yes, it's wonderful that he's there to do this, but we need to share the load.

Bower was everywhere last night for better and for worse. It is comical watching him at times - get ball, bolt headlong 5 steps, then look up for targets, change mind, stop, panic at oncoming opponent, get tackled, get wobbly handpass back to a teammate for him to start the process again.

It's funny to say he needs to back himself, but if he's going to try to carry the ball at pace out of the backline, he has to believe he can run past tacklers and actually break a line rather than retreat at the first sign of trouble. "L'audace, toujours l'audace!"

Bower was a little flat footed in the first half, but took the game on and ran with the ball a lot more in the second half and the key moments in the last quarter. I'd like to see more of that.

Hammers run with the ball had be very excited. We are starting to look pretty decent in the ruck now. Building a nice little team we are.

PROS

The big fella up there (Pratty) has a smile on his face
4th on the ladder (more wins than losses)
Ratten and the MC were fantastic throughout
Alot more miles in the young legs of our kids (they'll get better for it)
Running in numbers and support for each other was best I've seen in 09.
Great balance of youth, experience, talls, mids and smalls
Our experienced players all did their bit for the team.
Forwardline pressure was brilliant (especially Garlett and Betts). Not always a stat either
AJ is relentless and his 1%ers are invaluable (again doesn't appear on the stats). Mr dependable
Bower's ability to get to a contest and support team mates. He reads the play like an old campaigner.
The ruck combo of Hammer and Kreuzer.
The defense without Waite is working really well. Very impressed and will improve.
Armfield's running the ball out of defense with Bower is awesome.
Great to see Setanta play well and reach his 50.
A great team effort. This interstate win will do wonders for the kids' development.
Great to see us running 100% right from the beginning. We will improve our endurance from games like this.
We have Warnock and Walker to add to the team sometime after the break
We have the best club song.
Conratulations to the Carltonians who turned up to the game in droves. Great to see our jumper throughout the crowd.

CONS

I really have no cons.

I thought we tired in the end because of our relentless attack right from the first bounce. Explains the final qtr fade out. We're still young, still developing our bodies. Ratts did as good as he could with the rotations.
We need another KP forward (like Brizzy has 2), but I loved the way Ratts coached the forwardline given he only had Fev as his one dependable target. Really kept the defense of Brizzy guessing with all the moves.

Great to see the TC site so positive.
Bring on the Saints.

Has anyone else noticed Fev's unconventional grip on the ball? :banghead:

Pros:
What everyone else has said but special mention to Garlet, Bower and AJ

Cons:
Playing for free kicks. It can be fine in some circumstances but generally you shouldn't stop going for the ball presuming you are going to get the freekick. The contest between Fev and Bradshaw rings a bell. Fev's a role model to the youngens in the team.. I just hope they are not learning from him.

I don't know, but it sounds like he'll have a game for the Ants in about 4 weeks

Pros
Won interstate -won a close game
Hollywood Fevola
Juddy -another greg williams handball in evidence last night - seen a lot of Carlton champions but this guy goes very close - hope he wins Brownlow

Browne and Arnfield both improving and disposal and poise better

Joseph another good job

Bower really good game - club certainly pulled right rein when traded kennedy as part of judd trade and not bower

Gartlett adds to forward line with his pressure

Another solid game by Murph and gibbs best game for about 4 weeks

Cons

Bad kicking for goal 16-16 to 16-10 nearly cost us - dominated periods of game without getting due reward

Tackling -not strong enough

Last quarter -should have won more easily after 30 point lead at three quarter time

Idiots on radio station saying if merrett had played they would have won -they obviously forgot about Waite

Pros
we won interstate
AJ - this guy is awesome, his pace and grunt is exactly what we need
Hammer - his jump in great and there was one instance where krooz handballed to ball to hammer who just sprinted off mitch clark
Fev - gun he even out muscled bradshaw in a marking contest...and took the mark with one hand :smoking:
Judd - is all class its amazing he can get us out of so many tight spots
Gibbs - i watched him last week and the week before and he was loose, didnt tackle and his disposal was quite ordinary. Much netter this week
Bower
Browne
Army

Cons
we were up by 30 and only won by 6
Hammer didnt play the last 5 minutes due to a sore knee
Fev still hasnt kicked more than 8 in a match
Brisbane supporters explaining to me how we would have been killed if Merret played - if my memory is correct fev kicked 5 on merret when we beat them at the start of the year too.
TACKLING and centre clearances

Pros:
We won a close one after losing three close ones earlier in the season.
Fev, Judd, Setanta, Garlett, Bower, Joseph.
Grigg got through OK.

Cons:
Their last quarter made us look like we lack fitness
Rich going at 7 instead of 6.

I know it was scary and I know we all hate it when it happens but very few teams, aside from the Cats, dominate games for 120 minutes. It just doesn't happen in todays AFL. Even the bottom teams in Melb, Richmond and the WCE have won quarters this year and pressed their more fancied opponents for long periods.

The fact is the Blues were only well beaten for a 15-20 minute period in the game. Frustratingly it was in the 4th quarter. I don't think we necessarily ran out of puff (Grigga did obviously but that's to be expected) I just think we were smashed out of the middle for that period and when they got their hands on the ball we were chasing butt. 10 minutes into the 4th a stat came on the screen that read....... Lions 31 poss, Blues 13 poss. We just couldn't find the ball to dictate any terms. With the Lions getting their hands on it 1st we then couldn't force any turnovers.

Added to that was some dubious efforts of running the ball out of defense and as a result abit of panic set in. Juddy to the rescue and he steadied the ship. Brown and Army also hit the ball at maximum pace in a few late contests and that stopped some of the Lions momentum.

Every supporter asks how their team allows their opponent to get 4 and 5 goal run ons but the fact is it happens to every team.

What is impressive about the Blues under Juddy is that they don't throw in the towel as they may have pre 2008.

Regards Cazzesman

Im not saying he needs to back himself, because he already does and does it beautifully, last night especially.

What I was trying to say was that, both Bower and Jamo played really well one out with there opponent, but when Brisbane started to get a run on in the last, both of them, mostly Jamo, tried to hold on and chop arms which gave away a couple of crucial free kicks.

They need to learn to back themselves one out, and do what they've been doing the whole game which is keeping there eyes on the ball and going the spoil, rather then trying to hold and chop the arms.

I love how Bower especially backs himself out of defence and breaks the lines, he's done it brilliantly all year.

Just with the one on one's, they need to have more confidence in their ability to contest and spoil, especiall this week coming up againts Riewoltd and Kosi.
