About why he blew up with Cameron Cloke and what happened with his injury.

No one can ever doubt the guys achievements, 50 games tonight is a magnificent effort.

I hope he gets to run through the banner first and lead us to victory.

Hopefully he plays the game of his life!!!

Top effort.
I reckon he would be a lot better player under a more professional coaching regime

I reckon he would be a better player if he had had more time playing one position.
His skill levels are now very good so if he gets it he doesn't butcher it like he used to.
Put him on Brown and let him run off him. Brown is a great player but defence and pace aren't in his repertoire.

Brown is too strong for Setanta one out though which is a problem I can see with that matchup.
Setanta's versatility is his greatest asset, and his biggest liability.

From a medical perspective that is a pretty amazing story.

Claudication in a 25 year old is as rare as an effective Carlton kick-out (actually, much much much much rarer). You have to wonder if that puts setant at risk of other vascular disease (heart attacks, stroke etc.).

One interesting thing is that he had 15 scans - arterial sclerosis can be seen on CT's but not so easily on MRI's, and given the tendency of professional footballers to proceed to MRI with such ease, maybe this was why it wasn't picked up.

Would've been a cool operation to be in on.

From a footy perspective - I've always been sceptical. But good luck to him - I hope he has a ripper tonight!

Go big Setanta!
I have nothing but respect for the guy coming out here and even getting to the stage where he is at. He works hard, puts his heart into the club, team and his performance and all whilst trying to overcome the handicap of not having grown up playing one of the hardest games to play in the world at the top level.

The Cloke incident was unfortunate, but doesn't dilute my admiration. I know he probably shouldn't be in our best 22 if we are to be serious contenders but I love seeing him in the team nonetheless.

Congrats on your 50th!

I'm a massive supporter of this bloke. Been telling my missus that he'll be a player one day. I hope I am proven right! His field kicking skills are better than some of the more experienced players on our list.

Congratulations on 50 games.

I dont think in that entire time we have seen this guy used to his best advantage - those games at full back a few seasons ago against Hall and Lloyd where he did so well pidgeon holed him to as a defender then we were forced to use him as a Ruckman when we ran out of tall options.

Now that he is injury free and his pace and acceleration returned would love to see him used through the middle or on the wing as an unmatchable option.

I dont think we have seen the best of Setanta yet.

I've always liked Setanta, though my faith has been tested at times. Waitey's injury has given him a lifeline, and so far he's done quite well.

I'd love to see him succeed as a marking forward, but he's never done too well in the air for a big man. I keep remembering he kicked 7 goals in one of his very early VFL games...

I really liked Setanta when I first saw him, great enthusiasm and attack on the ball and player. Then he dropped off a bit and I was then when he had his brain snap and was one of the people in the crowd calling for his head. I now have a bit better understanding of what he has gone through, and why he acted as he did and he seems to show genuine regret for his actions. Hope he has a great day.

Well said. I agree

Last week's game was great.

I would love to see him use his pace in open space...just to see the real Setanta cut loose.

One of my Favs

Good luck and Conratulations.

Play a ripper tonight!!!

The first Sydney boy to play 50 matches for Carlton?

Such an impressive effort to get to 50 matches, and even more so given the medical problems.

Congrats, Big Irish, hope you have a cracker tonight!

It's always about Sydney with you, isn't it KK?

Congratulations to Setanta. I can't help but respect someone who puts as much effort into this game as him. Hope you have a ripper.

Well done to Carlos.

Let's hope there's at least 50 more games so he can get his name on the locker.

although not a walk-up CHF I think he is lightyears better than Cloke.... his effort when the ball hits the ground and defensive pressure is excellent, and when it comes together in the air it comes together. He's doing enough each week to keep his spot - especially considering the alternatives - so I would keep persisting with him at CHF as a rule.

It might get interesting for him when Warnock is fit and the club can choose to play 3 rucks and move Kreuzer or hampson permanently forward. Although even then I wonder if that might put more pressure on Fisher/Wiggins than Setanta.

Definitely worth persisting with up forward and see what he can offer. I think our tall-backs are coming together well. Our 3 are pretty much set now and Austin has done more than enough to think he can do a job as the next off the bench. I think setanta's defensive options might be limited now (barring injury).
