Just got back from holidays and was looking forward to reading TC, especially the upcoming match thread. Bit of a disgrace guys, JR is not our worst player, and perhaps people need to remember who they support. He wears the navy blue, his supporters should at least respect that!!

..not sure AJ on Black is smart, he's too short and will get exposed.. ..Black's far too experienced, and will just alter his game style to work more as a marking/link target.. ..go head to head in the middle i reckon, but work to counter their ball carriers/rebounding defenders..

If any player doesn't like to be criticised I suggest a career substantially less well paid and where almost a million people don't watch you work each week. The choice is simple really. I haven't seen any 'Talking Plumbers' or 'Call Centre Blitz' forums.

As for the trouble makers in the team who can actually play at this level (unlike Russell), look at Barca, they got rid of those 'superstars' not playing for the team on and off the park, in Deco and Ronaldinho and won La Liga, Copa Del Rey and the UEFA Champions league not to mention the cash return. Makes you wonder where Fev is drinking and playing poker tonight in Bris Vegas...

Its not only about Russells lack of possessions, its what he does off the ball.

He goes to ground, he runs around like a headless choock. Last Friday in front of me he stood there and tilted his head back in frustration as he was in a contest, went to ground a few times and missed a few tackles all in the space of about 20 seconds.

Anyone comparing him to Armfield is ridiculous. One Russell has been there a lot longer, and two Army shows much more tenacity and hunger for the ball than Russell does. Army does make the odd poor decision, but he has not been in the game for that long.

Russell has had many chances. He is not really good at anything. Cannot play him back because of his disposal, cannot play him forward because he cannot kick for goal. Apart from the odd good tackle, I cannot see much else.

He does not have the hunger and is just not good enough. Simple as that. Nothing to do with him as a person. This is only a critique on his game, so no offence.

Russell was 5th on the tackles count at Carlton in 2008.

Ooooh that explains the automatic selection every week, he was 5th in tackles last year. Thanks for clearing that up.

(IMHO) Neither Russell, Armfield nor Anderson are AFL standard players and none of them will be part of a successful carlton campaign. I'm sure they're ripping blokes and they bust a gut for the club, but they are not up to it.
Brisbane by 14 points....sadly
Bad Fev tomorrow me thinks
BUT......come back with bikkies form the gabba and I'll get very excited about inflicting the saints first loss for the season next week. Can't rationalise it, it's just what Dennis Denuto calls , "the vibe"

Some people just really drive me crazy.

the game this week is against Brisbane. They are 4 points in front of us.

The team is:

Backs Dennis Armfield Michael Jamison Paul Bower
Half backs Nick Stevens Bret Thornton Bryce Gibbs
Centreline Kade Simpson Aaron Joseph Heath Scotland
Half forwards Brad Fisher Setanta O’hAilpin Andrew Carrazzo
Forwards Shaun Hampson Brendan Fevola Eddie Betts
Followers Matthew Kreuzer Chris Judd Marc Murphy
Interchange Steven Browne Jeff Garlett Shaun Grigg
Ryan Houlihan
Emergencies Mark Austin Mitch Robinson Jordan Russell

In: Carazzo, scotland, grigg
out: robinson, austin, rusell

There are so many things to discuss, but you just get hung up on one aspect.

Broaden your minds people!!!

I agree! Quick clearances will result in goals to us - and I think that Brisbane don't have taggers effective enough to keep Judd out of the game.

I'd be sending Hammer straight into Ruck and starting Kreuze up forward to give 3 tall targets and 2 crumbers....
Still say Brisbane will resort to bombing it in high to our Defensive structure,so I hope we've got a plan to counter that.

Frontal pressure is the name of the game, they'll be more easily rattled if we punch hard and early.

There's real benefit in that. Using Hammer as our first ruck.

Hammer can jump over Clark and Brennan, and even Bradshaw if he goes in the ruck

With our 3 Targets forward you'd think that would force Voss to send Bradshaw back.

I much prefer Bradshaw out of the forwardline.

Then if Bradshaw causes a contest, we have a couple of dangerous crumbers at their toes.

I hope we play at least a 4 man forwardline. I'm sure our midfield will lay heaps in the forward 50.

As for Black, I still feel that Joseph is too short for him; maybe not. Black is taller, has longer arms and is a good mark. I'd still have Carrots on him...assuming he's fit for duties.

Wow - I had to check that - my first instinct is that Black isn't that different to Kerr - but 3 1/2 inches is a significant difference.... And I never would have said that Carrots was that tall.... Maybe we'll put Simmo on him to use the "Judd" approach against the opposition - make Black have to shut Simmo down (assuming Carrots isn't immediately going to jump to a 30 possession game :) ).....

just rewatching the eagles game - jamo is really struggling with that shoulder and appears to have lost all confidence in spoiling or applying physical pressure

as important as jamo is to us , i wouldnt be suprised to see a late change for austin tomorrow and if carrots doesnt come up with that hand then russell in as well.

we need good fev to show up to force bradshaw to stay in defence

My gut has been right in almost all games so far this season, and my gut feels reasonably good about tomorrow's game. Bring it on. Watching it live from London tomorrow morning

I'm just wondering whether this should be in the "Are we big enough?" thread?

Just a thought.
