I'm not naming them, and I don't expect anyone else here who knows to name anyone either because it is just grandstanding really. There is no need because it is really not that big a deal, they are just another supporter contributing to the forum. If you have read TBV and TC over the last 5 years you would have had a chance to see it pretty clearly.

... and knowing what I know about the Carlton online community (through people contacting the blueseum) there are many many, players, girlfriends of players, relatives of players, past players, relatives of past players, and also officials and administrators of the club who read, and sometimes contribute to all the CFC forums.

It's a slice of the CFC community and that includes people who are now part of CFC directly or indirectly.

Wot possie did Melvey play????

Up country punt.

Also, a pheasant plucker.

I didn't know Abdul Qadir played cricket for Carlton.

Carl Hooper too.

There you go.

Sorry for going OT mods. I'll stop it now.

Although technically we're still "talking Carlton". :ducks:

Sheesh! I believe this is supposed to be the pre-match discussion thread? Discussion of the exclusions of course fits this criteria...discussion of the closing of TalkingPlayers or the rightness and wrongness of peoples posting behaviour doesn't.

Let's rinse and repeat...if you have an issue with decisions made about the site, please please please discuss this in the TalkingIssues forum. If you explore the whole site when you log in you will find it easily enough.

Let's keep the threads about the topic please.

We now return you to your normal station.

Go Blues.

English fast bowler John Snow played for Carlton as well.

If there is no talking players forum to talk about players, the pre-match thread was always going to become a surrogate talking players forum if paople want to talk about players after the teams were released.
There is a maxim in decision making tools that suggests looking to see if fixing one problem will create another one before making a final decision.

Old Easybeats song, Made my bed, now I'm gonna lie in it.

This is a true eight-point game for us. We need to win it to jump over the top of Bris on the ladder.
The scrum that is positions 4-12 more or less is not one we need to get mixed up in and unless we win this game we will drop pretty far over the next fortnight. We owe St Kilda but on present form it won't be this season so lets get over Brisbane.

All I can add is that I believe the side selected to represent the CFC in Brisbane this Saturday to be the best possible for the playing group available.

It has been some time since we have chosen the best possible players.

For this reason I am very, very happy.

That's all.

All supporters of a team need a whipping horse. The one player who it is all his 'fault'. In recent times it has been Campo, then Lance and now it is Jordan Russell. While he ceratinly isn't our best, he certainly isn't as bad as some would like us to believe. I think he is like Houla, a lot of his good work goes unnoticed but when he makes a clanger, they tend to be biggies.

That said I like the team as selected, I feel we are now being serious as a genuine finals contender and are starting to select with the veiw of securing a place in the eight. We have to earn it, it won't happen just because we are Carlton.

Sorry Mrs Caz, but the thread intalking issues has also been locked.
I wanted to agree with something Keogh said there (I rarely agree with him but that is what forums are for I think)
Individual bannings would work better than broadacre censorship.

A couple of posts regarding the omission of Russell are very, very disappointing. Disgraceful, really.

The vitriol directed his way is not only disappointing and disgraceful coming from within our own ranks but completely over the top. He's a footballer. The way a few too many celebrate his shortcomings and failures as such are quite sickening.

That's all.

Completely agree. It is an absolute disgrace to post such personally hurtful stuff (over the top celebration at his omission) about a guy who is just doing the best job he can for his club ... our club. Some justify their attitude by saying it is because of his continual selection (perception of protected species). The last time I checked Jordan Russell was not on the selection panel.

I am relatively new to TC. I really enjoyed the contagious optimism pre-season .... it got me excited about football again. But I am increasingly disappointed by the way that some TCers turn every time there is a sub-par performance. The negativity is often way over the top; and when we turn on our players with personal attacks like Jordan Russell has had to endure .... well I have had enough. This will be my last post.

The irony is that Russell is a better player this year (improvement over past years) and the effect has only been to draw more intense criticism than ever. I just hope he doesn't read this crap because his confidence, even self esteem, would be shot. Wouldn't yours?

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but surely there are more constructive ways to do it. If you have an issue with selection how about an email to the club rather that slagging a bloke on a public forum. Also why are we so convinced we are smarter than those who run the club when we are not privy to what goes on inside the walls every day.

Leave this shit to Collingwood. We are Carlton. Go Blues!

I agree.

I think that TC would be a better place if we were all more respectful towards players, club officials, and most importantly each other.

We can be critical (of the club, the players, and each other) whilst still being respectful.

I've tipped the Lions this week by 14pts, hard decision but I'm yet to see any signs of consistency and our interstate form is ordinary at best.

Grigg/Scotland are great inclusions though. Big bodies, physical and can run and damage when they have the ball.

Carrots on Drummond seems to be the best ploy, still worried about this hand though, lets hope he doesn't show us all before the game.

I think Eddie needs to lift this week, he pinched a few goals against Collingwood late, but his past few weeks have been quiet and his defensive pressure down. Ash McGrath is a dangerous player so Eddie will need to be on top of his game.

After our woeful performance against Freo up on the coast, I suspect the boys will want to make amends although the Bears are travelling nicely at the moment I reckon Carlton by 10 to 12.

Is Mitch Robinson injured? I thought his physicality and defensive pressure would be perfect against the Lions...although the ins are good, experienced, bigger bodied players so i dont have a problem with it even if he was just omitted.

Wow 16 pages of pre-match analysis...this must be the most detailed thred of all....hope the match comittee is paying attention.

I'm hoping that Carrots and Scotto are match fit. I'm thinking Carrots on TJ and AJ on Hooper.

Without getting off the match topic, I can't remember who was on Black last time (Rd2) ...he will punish you...a couple of clearances will = a couple of goals.

Our defence is ok against Brown/Bradshaw - I think lots of possible options which I'm sure the guys will be drilled for ...BUT I'm hoping to see a better (and QUICKER) kick in from defence strategy.

Wish I had the Rd 2 game on tape...would watch it tonight!
