I for one, have been unhappy with Russell's performances lately and is happy that he has been dropped. However, and I trust that I speak for the pro Russell omission group, my happiness is not because I don't like Russell as a person. I am happy because I don't think he is in the type of form at the moment to warrant selection.

So before getting on your high horses and knocking the people here for "celebrating" Russel's omission, understand that it is not personal.

My personal opinion is that there is a huge difference between saying "I agree with Russel's omission this week", or "I'm happy that JR has been dropped"; and saying things in the manner of "thank god he's gone!", or posting pictures and videos of fireworks/celebrations/praising the lord.

I was very happy to learn that JR was dropped because I think that is good for the Carlton Football Club.

I was so happy that picture of fireworks were invoked. I've been hoping for this event for quite some time.

Because I reckon it is good for the Carlton Football Club.

I barrack for the Carlton Football Club and when something happens that I think is good for it, well it makes me happy.

Couple of Premiership players read it...couple who used to have a quiet drink with Premiership players read it, couple who taught players at school - they post on here, bloke who delivered newspapers for Bruce Doull posts on here, bloke who signed Mark Maclure to an Aquila shoes deal posts on here and a bloke who got his dog neutered by Andy McKay posts regularly on here too. Blues by 17 points.

... and many many more.

If people only knew, they might post differently.

I know and I still spout my crap. Because real Carlton people are real Carlton people, does not matter if they have been a President or a 75 year old woman in Shepparton who never sees the games live but hugs her Koutoufides cardboard cutout after every Carlton win (G'day aunty Val).

AGREE 100%
I am happy with the ins, and very happy that Carrazzo is back in the side.
JR can earn his way back into the side like EVERYONE ELSE
People need to stop coddling him

I'm feeling very grumpy about no Talking Players, no relevant Talking Issues threads that aren't locked, and no live tv here again this week. I didn't even know that Talking Issues existed before reading something earlier in this thread from Mrs C I think. Found after some searching that there are lots more little vaults of info on this site than I had realised even if they are generally extremely obscure. But nowhere to be able to have a good complain without rudely interupting the match forum when I would prefer to do so elsewhere.

Speaking of which, we don't get any live Friday night games here and I knew I would be in for a lot of listening by radio this year through the internet when I first saw the fixture. And forget live TV if our games clash with weagles or shockers. It is a shame for this country that laws restrict us from being able to access tv broadcasts from other states online. Crazy when you can listen live as I have done from various parts of the world. Some day in the future people will laugh if they ever hear of this and think how quaint.

Anyway, back on topic for this week. Pleased that Garlett is in the side again. His cameos just add a sense of expectation that something could happen when he is near the ball. X factor. I am happy with the MC this year with their overall approach despite a few obvious howlers. They have been prepared to try different things in a way that just didn't happen for years.

Quite a few posters thought Browne would make way this week but he is still there. He looks a likely type to me and I'm happy for him to keep getting more games.

Congratulations to the Irishman on getting 50 games. There was a period a year or so ago when he looked to have made it. He is another player who has that x-factor that can lift a side. I hope he celebrates by playing a real ripper this week.

I reckon a few teams have taken note of AJ by now. I hope a few 'minding' roles have been allocated in case there is any attempted sniping.

Go Blues!

So you are unhappy about the actual words used to describe a person's emotion about a particular subject? Didn't know there is a template for something like this.

There isn't a rule limiting this, nor am I saying that there should be; just that certain expressions of those opinions disgust me.

I support your right to express your opinion that you dislike the continual selection of Jordan Russell.

I hope you support my right to express my dislike of the manner in which certain posters have expressed their agreement of Russell's omission.

iam over this

So not only should we have plan A,B and C for Brown but plan D as well. I'm tipping if the first 3 can't hold him, Aussie may struggle as well. (What's Jamo, plan E?)

Exactly. Our side was too tall. Don't plan for failure.

Can't say that I am wildly confident that the ins are fit and will all play - or will play to their potential. Fingers crossed I guess.

Outs understandable if the ins are fit, but why then fight the 1 week suspension for Robbo? No doubt there is a logical answer...

Austin will be back in a few weeks. Progressing nicely, unlucky to make way for team balance / experience mix and definitely appears to have a future.

Russell would probably be a more effective player now if he had been dropped occasionally in recent years. It does actually do players some good to be dropped sometimes when they are a little borderline and need to hone their skills at the weaker level. Personally I hope he takes this opportunity.

I am extremely disappointed that the angst at the MC over his continued inclusion has contributed to the closure of one of the most important and interesting parts of this site. On the other hand there is less to read here now and I haven't been spending so much time on the site which is good for my work, if not for my sanity. I work in an area where the majority are regularly punished for the actions of a few and it grates on me bigtime. Understand the concerns and the moderators' difficulties of constantly policing the site, (which I would imagine most of us greatly appreciate) but surely the individual player threads copping the most heated debate could have been closed for a cooling off period rather than closing the lot. Not at all happy about it.

You'd think so, wouldn't you?

This will no be an issue next week.

JR is human again, Ratts and the MC have gained in credibility, and we can all move onto ST Kilda knowing that the BEST TEAM at the time will be on the park.
If JR is in that team then GOOD ON HIM - whether he gets a game off the emergency on bench on Saturday is irrelevant, the gesture has been made now.

The problem is not having differing opinions - the problem is that people's opinions of a player (whether they like him or think he's rubbish, or really worry that their girlfriends will read this forum, or worry that he tries hard and is not as bad as hartlett or joe blow or whoever) should NOT be a factor in his selection. FORM AND EFFORT AND MATCHUPS should pick the team. Effort alone is not enough game in game out.

Otherwise there are other players on our list who are not the worst, and try really hard.

I don't want a team of players who are 'not the worst and try really hard'. I want the best players every week

A couple of posts regarding the omission of Russell are very, very disappointing. Disgraceful, really.

The vitriol directed his way is not only disappointing and disgraceful coming from within our own ranks but completely over the top. He's a footballer. The way a few too many celebrate his shortcomings and failures as such are quite sickening.

That's all.

I think they're a bit silly too. But the vitriol seems to come more from the wowsers than the anti-Russell faction. This sort of wowserism got Talking Players shut down

They seem to have friends in high places around here...

Mate, while the future of TalkingPlayers is still up in the air, I can assure you it was equally the wowsers and anti-Russell factions that saw TalkingPlayers shut down....it takes two parties to create the mess it became.

I can also assure you that while it won't harm the case, bleating on about it isn't going to see it re-opened.

Give it a rest for a while and see how things pan out.

I'm not naming them, and I don't expect anyone else here who knows to name anyone either because it is just grandstanding really. There is no need because it is really not that big a deal, they are just another supporter contributing to the forum. If you have read TBV and TC over the last 5 years you would have had a chance to see it pretty clearly.

... and knowing what I know about the Carlton online community (through people contacting the blueseum) there are many many, players, girlfriends of players, relatives of players, past players, relatives of past players, and also officials and administrators of the club who read, and sometimes contribute to all the CFC forums.

It's a slice of the CFC community and that includes people who are now part of CFC directly or indirectly.

Wot possie did Melvey play????
