Against St. Kilda or Geelong I would pencil in a loss but would still be optimistic that we at least we are one team in the competition that could beat them on our day (I do not think many others could put pay to that idea).

Everything else you said I agree with. I expect to beat both of these teams though as I think we match up on them pretty well now.

Annoyed about the chicken littles around here with this "we can't win" attitude.

Think this through:

1. We beat W Coast, Port and Lions away last year. Latter two games we came from miles BEHIND to win;

2. We are a better team than last year - by any objective measure;

3. OK, we've lost twice away this year, but let's go into it further.

Swans - Unbeaten @ home this year. We kicked ourselves out of it early on. Do they ever lose at the SCG? They've dominated us for years, but this is all about to change IMHO.

Freo - Ditto Swans, only win lately was by 9 points in a thriller last year @ Dome. They belted us @ Bunbury pre-season, too. We had more scoring shots, more inside 50's and a disinterested FF. A wake up call that will help us in this game.

Sure, Adelaide have had the better of us in the past 6-7 years (which club hasn't!) but we've been pretty competitive against them through this period and beat them @ AAMI in 2004.

We've played very well @ AAMI past few years (beat Port last year and 8 point loss to Crows) and no excuses if we can't get over them this time.

Are Adelaide better than last year? Have we gone backwards?

I will be very disappointed if we can't beat them. Very disappointed.

The Crows have told Woodville West Torrens to lodge an appeal tom try and get Shirley off his spear tackle charge. :sly:

If he gets off the I hope Judd gives him a bath.

That's either fear or arrogance on the part of the Crows.

The team has to be named today so I would imagine the judiciary in SA would be very busy today.

The appeal isn't until 6:30pm tonight. After the teams have been released...what are the official rules regarding this?

I would think that it would be too late as the appeal should have been lodged days ago unless the decision was only just handed down [ie last night] in which case, there might be some leeway given to the Crows.

It's no different to injury - he can be named, and if his appeal doesn't succeed before the game then he's replaced. That can be done right up to the time that team sheets have to be in (60 minutes before the game IIRC).

Surely him being dropped if the appeal fails isn't the same as a player pulling out because of injury.

I want to see us aim up Porplyzia at any opportunity. The injury affected by our entire team against him last time round was not sufficient enough. How he was allowed to leave the field on a stretcher and not a body bag is reprehensible.

When the ball is bounced I want every man bar none, run directly to Porplyzia and beat him within an inch of his life.

Because that's the way we roll.

The mechanics are identical, as they are if a player pulls out to be with his wife during childbirth or any other personal reason. The only difference is the reason for the withdrawal from the side.

So you can include a suspended player in your squad?

I would have thought so if there's an appeal on foot.

But let's assume that you can't. Let's also assume that Judd were in the same position as Shirley - he has been suspended but an appeal succeeds after the team is named without Judd. Do you really think that we'd say that's bad luck - Juddy will have to wait until next week. Pigs ar$e. He'd be in quicker than you could click your fingers. The only penalty that the AFL could possibly impose is a fine of a few thousand for bringing in a player outside the emergencies. Same thing applies with Shirley - if his appeal succeeds, he'll be in to take Judd assuming Neil Craig wants that match up. We can argue the technicalities about how that would happen - will he be named subject to the appeal succeeding or will he be brought in if his appeal succeeds - but the bottom line is exactly the same.

..well, sounds silly but i auppose you can name a suspended player in yer squad, it's just said suspended player isn't allowed to actually play, so effectively yer a man down..

BKB, you can change your line-up up to an hour before the game. Once the team sheet is lodged, then you can't change it (unless perhaps there's a medical problem that passes muster). As long as you don't include a suspended player on the team sheet lodged on the day, you'll be okay.

How long did Shirley get for that spear tackle initially? That's one of the most dangerous tackles i've ever seen. If he were to get of that i'd personally hunt him down to kiss my tatts ticket this weekend.

sorry, it seems my computer has gone AWOL and is mixing up posts with other teams forums, for example above. :hitcomputer:

I think you need to go to sarcasm.com and download their latest patch. It looks like your sarcasm meter is not working properly.

If Adelaide are so worried about Judd that they are bringing in Shirley to tag him, he would want to have serious form to have earnt the spot otherwise IMO it smacks of desperation.
