It's a win and we needed it.

It was strange watching two bottom side with 83 000 people.

What today showed me:

Our game plan and structure is very poor or either we aren't doing what we are supposed.

Our kids have potential with guys such as Robbo, Joseph, Browne, Austin, Hammer, Bower looking better and better.

We have some very lazy players who do the easy things. Unless we have 22 players putting bodies on the line we will get smashed.

Question marks over Stevens (some of his efforts were disgraceful) Russell (the new Mick Gayfer) Thornton (won't get those possessions against a good side and his disposal is very slow) Fevola & Yarran (nowhere near fit enough for AFL level)

"The BIGGEST issue for me that has been obvious in our loses and today is our lack of leg speed and lack of kicking penetration across the ground"

Unless we address these issues we will NOT reach teh top level.

How do we address those issues? Do we want a total side reconstruction or do we want to pull a few bricks out from underneath? Next year it will be something else. The last time we tried to do that sort of thing we got Jordan Russell and plenty of 'needs' have come and gone since then. You try to overcompensate and you just see other problems crop-up, some of them caused by the very elements that were brought in to fix the first issue. Call it The Cane Toad Principle.

To me its the kids.

For me they were the highlight of the day. Just little bits of improvement is all we can ask and with the opportunities they are starting to show it.

Guys like Grigg, Walker, Yarran, Garlett, Browne, Anderson, Joseph, Armfield, Austin along with Gibbs, Murphy, Kruezer will help alleviate those problems.

Serious questions need to be asked of the futures of Stevens, Fevola & Thornton as their deficincies are exposed against good sides.

Without being ultra critical it was a messy win.

We started out ok, but just need to learn to drive teams into the ground.

Other teams Geelong / St Kilda would have won by nearly 100 points.

I know we are not near them yet, but 60 - 75 points would have been a benchmark I would think given their team.

We learnt more about our team today and hats off as some really stood up.

The game as a whole deteriorated big time. Both teams need to be responsible for that.

No offence CJ, but that has to be one of the most stupid things i've read!

I know for a fact btw, Fev's been carrying quite an injury these last couple of weeks, he did his job today for the team, which was a new role for him, help set up and provide a contest, and he did that effectively today...

So what you're saying is we should delist a 100goal a year full forward and his future looks grim...

@#$%&!! Get real!!

Can someone please enlighten me WTF was that 50 against Fev for?
Was it for mouthing off?
Looked as though Wood was lying on Fev's back and giving it to him... couldn't understand the 50

Wood was trying to make love. The umpire could not, in all his umpirical wisdom, dismiss love- especially when he had to contend with Wood.

Hard decision.

Perhaps, perhaps not
Saints beat the pies by 80 last week in a game where the pies suffered several injuries (so less rotations available on the bench)

Cats beat north by 70 points after being 56 ahead by half time. North a just as injury ravaged as pies

Once a side wins by over a certain amount, margins dont really mean too much. Lets not forget that a few of the pies scoring opportunities came from some fairly dodgy umpiring (ie like the thornton grab)

As a mate of mine said after the match today, "perfect preparation for the Adelaide (shut down style) game". Rapt with the youngsters Austin,Joseph,Hammer,Browny today.
Forward line looked far more dangerous with Waite there. As True Blue Brad mentioned, great guts from Scotland on the wing, inspiring stuff.

Speaking of love you just can't see that picture of Ed watching his team boned again without a warm feeling inside.

I thought it was because Hammer over stepped the mark to push a Collingwood player. Could be wrong though..

Geelong or St Kilda would of won by 100pts? Good on them, they still would've only got 4pts like us. They are also far more mature than us.

I've had my differences with Budzy in the past, but he is right, this forum is turning into a sad place.

...Yarran was dismal... does he have a groin-related issue? He was really missing any burst of acceleration. That chase of Heath Shaw didn't have him really gasping so you get the feeling he has another gear there; should have done more. His previously noted level of attack on the footy - or lack thereof - was another 'highlight'.

The talent is there but something is holding back his output. Frustrating player...

This was his second game wasn't it? Okay, the chase wasn't great, but we were told when we recruited him that he would mostly play up forward this year and be used as a burst player. The club acknowledged his fitness wasn't a big strength but is confident that over time (read, a couple of decent pre-seasons) that he will be able to play a midfield role.

Just look at the sliky take from the Judd handpass and subsequent goal that Yarran scored. From what we've been told, that is why we recruited him. We've also been told the rest of the package will come with time. Let's give him some, don't you think...

I'm not saying he's any where near a failure, far from it. Great with the ball in his hands. But he doesn't work hard enough yet for him to go from 5 to 10 touches.

Gifted one goal, and had the reflexes to give himself another opportunity. Great that he has the awareness and ability for these sorts of things but you have to pressure, not run around like you're waiting for someone to kick it to you.

I can forgive him for having a dip and coming up short, but for whatever reason he doesn't seem to be having a dip. If I'm wrong I do excuse my comments, and add that I wish I looked half as fit and firing when I'm spent. :P
