I sympathize with your issues Ryan and wish you luck. Good on your friends and employer for standing by you in your tough times.

.............but there comes a time with everyone when enough is enough. This isn't a one-off, it's a regular yearly event. We as a club aren't responsible for bailing this bloke out time and time again. We're in the business of winning games of footy, not counseling nut jobs.

If Houla was dropped, so should have Fev. I also want to know why this didn't happen IF they were guilty of commiting the same crime.

We will continue to stumble along performing 70% until he finally retires by which time it will be too late.

I'm sick to @#$%&! death of seeing Judd, Murphy, Kreuzer and Gibbs and Waite give everything they have to see Fev piss it away.

and does it matter unless the individual wants to change - wants to go 'seek' help?

and this is where a football club gets really tricky - and especially with a character like Fev - the players do love him, he's charismatic, so what to do for the others?

Ryan, for many years I worked with the kids who had been buggered by society - kids whose parents had kicked out of home, kids with little intelligence, who couldn't read or right, kids with autism, kids who self-harmed, kids with head injuries from car accidents who sometimes remembered what they had been like and would weep, kids with no homes, drug users, kids with all sorts of things going wrong and we worked with those kids over three (sometimes longer) periods and often helped them find jobs/homes/the ability for self-control etc

but every now and then we would have a kid that we just had to let go - it hurt like hell and the staff would often rage into the night trying to find alternatives but in the end some of these kids were just too damaging to the other kids around them.

Sometimes we have to make horrible choices. Sure we'd find other programs, try other things, but still the fact remained that we would tell that kid they were no longer in the program.

I am pretty sure I've said this before about Fev, but if he was in that program as a kid he'd be one of those ones we'd have to let go. Ryan how many chances does he need before he sees he needs to get help? For how many years will we drag this out? For his whole career? Because that is how long this discussion has been going on. Actually longer, even before he was drafted this discussion was going on.

They club pampers them enough without having to deal with the inability of some to grow up.

The extreme cases can only help themselves by admitting to a problem and seeking help.

Dannyboy pretty much sums it up for me.

Duke...................

I know what your saying, and can understand your frustration...........

But i don't think the Club has been there for him. As soon as he does something wrong, they come out and say
"He's on his last legs" or "Yeah, one last chance for Fev" or "We'll talk trades at the end of the season".
But the club wants and needs Fevola. They know it, and he knows it. And he'll play for them (and us, the supporters). But when he's down, he takes it to heart..............because right now, all Fevola has to feel validated is Football. His Game. Outside of that, it's just a world of destruction and avoidence of his emmotions.

Booze was a great way of me avoiding the hurt - it really did help - but you still wake up in the morning in tears.

Fevola, OR ANY PLAYER for that matter (yes, even my least favourite player in Russell) needs the support of the club in these times.

There is a man who helped me a great deal (still does) and does have certain ties with the club who is highly experienced in these situations. If the club wishes, i'm more than happy to give them his details to talk with the players. - I know it worked for me.

Thanks for your well wishes guys. I'm back on track now.
YES - i still hit Rock-Bottom............... but at least now i've learnt how to pick myself back up! Because i know i've got the support of my family & friends behind me, should i fall again!

It's all pretty much mountain out of molehill stuff. Meduims like this one fuel the feral element in us which is backed with little to no actually knowledge of what goes on within the club, or actually how important or otherwise these things are. It's as if there is this enormous problem of some description which is easy to fix and then we'll be all on cloud nine. Pretty much what dreams are made of.

For flower sake get over it !!!!!!

No teams rules broken
No curfew broken
No recovery session missed
Nobody assaulted
Nobody sexually assaulted
No drink driving
No harm done

The players go out after a game and get their mind off footy without harming anyone....big Flower deal !!!!!

Hardly anything mentioned about anyone else but Fev ???

Fev bashing at its best.

Hope he kicks a bagfull against the Pies and these same people bagging him will be bag on the bandwagon as usual.

Forgetting about the players going out on the piss - which I think is poor form as well...why does Fev NEVER get a spray from Ratten or Lappin in any of the quarter breaks. Any other coach would rip him another one and tell him to pull his head in. Even Pagan used to drag him and give it to him on the phone when he was pulling his sook crap. Fevola needs to be told in front of the other players and on the ground during the game. Too many coaches trying to be mates...

Why do they need to get their mind off footy?

As allegedly professional athletes, with a short time in the game, footy should be their prime focus.

You reckon guys like Judd and Buckley and Rob Harvey needed to go out and get smashed to 'take their mind off' the fact that they were (by choice) involved in professional sport?

Pissweak excuse for unprofessional behaviour, I reckon. And I must admit, I'm pretty surprised and disappointed to discover that our club seemingly hasn't learnt anything from what Geelong did before their 2007 season.

I am very pleased that we for a change can have a mature discussion about these issues which no doubt are a major factor in all clubs and whoever manages it best has a huge advantage.

We have a tendency to simplify how to manage a team and always blame the coach. As it has been said so often: it's all above the shoulders. No matter what the issue is, we have seen that Fev's form is dependent on how his personal life is going. So I am worried.

So a 5-7am "night" out doesn't break a team curfew?

What a peculiar curfew.

Just caught the last 5 minutes of Greg Swan being on the 10 am hour on SEN with KB and Waldron. Did he say anything? Did any listener ask him?

I don't know that it's as much a "Carlton Football Club Culture" problem as it is a "young men fawned over by the public and paid enormous amounts of money while having quite a bit of free time" problem given that most clubs in both the AFL (and NRL) has problems such as these. Some become very public but many are kept in-house.

Yes, but those clubs who can get their players to behave professional on and off the field are the ones who win premierships. Example: See Geelong before and after they did the big review and change of behaviour.

Agreed, Stevie J was just as big a tool as anyone in AFL before he did his penance.

I really don't care about the rest of your statement - you think its fine, that's fine - but about that last line.

If I think Ratts should not be coach

If I think Russell should be dropped

If I think T-Bird should not play or Carlos should or Harvey shouldn't be an assistant

or we should have never left P.P.

and we win

and I celebrate that win

and T-Bird stars

and Russell stars etc

so what?

I support Carlton and I support every player on the day playing in that great jumper

and still there are players I wish were not, or were, picked.

They are not and have never been mutually exclusive so please, have an opinion but try not to belittle other people's with ideas like bandwagons/rose-coloured glasses/etc.
