It is not a real feasibility study, it's is bluff. Can someone tell me where the tender is for this? Would be easy money, the AFL do not really care about it, they basically want a document with a couple of dozen pages a few pictures a couple of graphs and the conclusion that PP could successfully hold AFL games and be a threat to the MCG and Docklands.

Sorry Jars...didn't really answer your points here...easy money? - Yes, because this is virtually a cut and paste job for work that has already been undertaken by StratCorp and the AFL. So in actual fact it's unlikely a public request for tender would have eventuated. With the information I know both parties have, I could put a new spin on this feasibility study and have it ready for the AFL in 3 or 4 days, including allowing for printing time. Aside from some financial forecasting models - it shouldn't take that long.

Here we are debating the return of games to Princes Park with a capacity of 25,000 (at best) - we have 40,000 members now.

Not a bad point AGRO...those in the Legends Stand are going to be cursing the decision to move the game from Docklands as well...but the club is just going to have to restructure it's membership options and add Visy Park 'options' onto Club Membership whilst allowing seating for opposition supporters...a little different to the Geelong model, who have 8 Skilled Stadium games this year - but along similar lines.

Remember Swan's "Clean ground" comment...before people get too excited, I would half expect that Carlton will not play ANY games at PP if this went ahead...not even Carlton Versus the West Sydney "Westies" (or whatever the hell they will call themselves). (self-edited the nickname I feel they should have)

I'm sure the AFL want it to be a neutral venue (notionally or in reality)..and that may preclude us from using it for anything other than our training and administrative address.

That sounds more like it. Using our fixture from this year as an example, I imagine we’d move the following games from the Dome/Carrara:

West Coast
Freo
Kangas
Adelaide
Melbourne

To move any more you’d be looking at moving games against the likes of Sydney, who draw a decent Melbourne crowd.

Absolutely, definitely, fantastic. A dream come true. Bring it on

Strange, I thought that Tim Lane and others who campaigned to stay at PP were called idiots around here at the time?

Yeah I can see VISY stadium as a great place to play our interstate rivals !!!!!!!!! I could also see 1 game a week going to Visy, be it a Carlton/interstate game or a Melbourne/North melbourne/Saints/Bulldogs game which is unlikely to draw a +20k crowd anyway .................. 9 games a week, 1 being played at Visy on a Saturday day/ Sunday day time slot sounds good to me !!!!!!!!!!

As people have said there would obviously be an issue of supply (seats available) and demand (members), but if the AFL agreed to televise games that will obviously be sold out then a deal could be struck IMO. God knows I would have prefered to play Freo at Visy than in Canberra !!!!!!!!!! And the introduction of the GC and WS (which will obviously have little/no support in Vic) will mean there will be more chances to play low drawing interstate teams at a smaller stadium.

We'll know the AFL is serious about this if and when they instruct their puppets at SEN to start spruiking it.

We currently have in excess of 40,000 supporters. Hopefully by the time the required renovations were completed, we'd have closer to 50k.
How will we fit them into a 20,000 seat stadium with our share of corporates etc?

..that's the issue (if we wanna play there).. ..it may not be an issue for low drawing teams though, and with the afl yabbering on about boutique stadiums than they might view it as more a neutral ground..

..unless there's a way to get more seating, which in turn requires more infra-structure......

Does the new building at royal parade end have seating planned? Will look funny on the telly if it doesnt.

The capacity being smaller than the membership isnt really a problem for the club. The Cats and Eagles deal with that in a very profitable way.

The MCC has 100,000 members, but doesn't see the need to fit all of them in at any one time. Maybe a silly example.

But of those 40,000 Carlton members, how many actually go every week? 20, 25k? Do you need a seat for every member? Anyway, this won't happen - so I'm buggered if I know why I'm even trying to argue a point

Well, it's not like the Melbourne forums would be abuzz with excited banter about the club's rosy future... current successes... or even memories of premiership glory...

But, yeah. Quit the trolling, or we'll do to you what your mob did to Norm Smith.

I'm not intending to troll - one man's troll is another man's observation
I was surprised by the position taken here re PP at the time
If it's uncomfortable reading now - what can I say?
I wont mention it again - carry on!
