After watching the game again today...( I hate kids who just wanna watch us again even when we lose!!)
Wallsy isn't too far off the mark.
We lost by a kick or 2 and we're miles off the pace..
Should's and Woulds...
But
Last week we were off the pace for a long time and almost stole it
This week.... seemed switched on for 1o mins in the first then nothin till the last....

But for a lucky 50 m penalty we would have been a long way down at half time

I have no problem with the gist of Walls' article, but he's wrong about Wiggins and Russell. JR is by no means our best, but he's a long way from our worst. Same with Wiggo.

It's a very mealy article in which Walls just plucked out six players who played for us in Round 6 and said that we will not be a force until they get better. He will have a different six this week, and another mealy mouthed article about a completely different six (or eight or ten :screwy: ) next week. It's an approach which is similar to what we read on here week in week out. Insight nil. Rubbish vast.

You 'snip' that criticise walls for saying it straight, take off the rose coloured glasses

Cloke Russel and Wiggins are not AFL standard

How many goals has Cloke kicked this year as a permanent forward?
How many goals has Wiggins kicked as a permanent forward? (35 goals in 100 games). Steven Silvagni played full back and had a higher goal average.
Jordan Russel looks like a footballer but has no football brain. Honestly, someone likes him when you have mitch robinson & steven browne in the 2s

Have to admit i have been a Cloke fan for a while now i thought he brings something to the table with his agression and straight kicking but he is testing my patience...he has had basically zero influence on the last 2 games and really needed to stand up last night.

Wallsy, as great a player as you were you are becoming a flowering idiot.

Very harsh on Thornton I believe. Has been playing above his weight division for years and has held that defence together single handed.

For most of his career he has had a midfield that refused to work hard when they didn't have the footy and has not had another quality defender to provide him with support. He has played on all the best forwards and has generally done a pretty good job.

They now ask him to be a creative defender off half back (his rightful position) yet when it comes to the crunch play him on Brown, Pavlich & Roughhead.

I also know for a fact he plays with many injuries that most others would not cross the white line with. Also Alistair Clarkson tried 3 times to get him to the Hawks (unsuccessfully). I believe Clarko is not a bad judge of a footballer !!

Yep he is right...but that's ok because we have some kids who have potential talent and when developed they will come in and help improve out bottom half of players.

I actually reckon we only have two players who are elite... then we have a tier who are talented and then the third tier which includes both players with potential talent and duds and it is this 3rd group which contains the largest number of players and that is why we have a way to go yet but are definitely on the right track.

Games against our old rivals are very rarely blow outs and this will be no exception.

It will be close and tight as usual.

I agree Jezz, the team needs to be pulled apart and rebuilt with an open mind. Wiggins, Russell, Cloke should left aside and only blokes who can hit a target should be given a go.

I'd also drop Fev and tell him he'll be playing for the Ants until he shows he can play as a member of a team :banghead: .

I love listening Wallsy because we get 3AW up here through 2AY. Yes I am living on the Murray which is why I spend a lot of time here on TC.

I thought Wallsy's point was our bottom 6 players are not as good as the bottom 6 players of other teams. Juddy and co are holding the team up the ladder.

Until we get some depth i.e. our bottom players get a game because they are good enough then Carlton will be more competitive. Our bottom 6 is a result of the draft penalties. So I understand what he is saying.

The players he mentioed were the players who performed poorly after that one game.

The coaching staff are holding us back in my opinion...

i also feel our coaching staff are not as good as could be.
bomber riley is our experienced hand, to round out ratten's inexperience. is he really the best available? was a bit dubious about the award he received.
the rest are pretty much young guns, part timers or carlton 1995 or a combination....
i don't have confidence in lappin or teague.
not sure what harvey's doing and I would have thought there are better ruck coaches than capuano.

am definitely not convinced that ratts has a game plan, let alone a great one.

HOWEVER, apart from some peripheral changes, our coaching panel looks like being essentially the same, unless someone has heard different?
whilst i'm not confident in ratts and the boys, i am not confident that they are definitely screwing it up either. that is, are they teaching the wrong thing, are they using the wrong methods or are the players not yet applying it?

either way, we will know for sure by the end of this season. (i just hope we don't panic and re-sign ratts for the next 3yrs if we start the year well...)

the next coaching appointment (or re-appointment) will determine how good or great we will become. much more so than this one.

Good one verbs.

Proof is in the pudding and you can't take that away.

In all fairness, at the time the comment was said, I am sure Russell wasn't the player he became in the last 6-7 rounds of season 09; that's called development isn't it?
