Are they out of the question now?

With about 1/3 of the season gone, we have won 3 and lost 4. Our percentage is good at the moment because we have not been belted. - If we continue like at this rate we will have won around 9 games by the end of the year. That will not be enough to make the top 8.

We as fans expected finals this year, Ratts has said that finals is the expectation this year.

What will happen if we don't make it? Have we stagnated? Gone Backwards?

We have 15 games left in the year, we need to win around 10 of them to make finals. This stat makes loses like last nights even more damaging.

i went through the fixture this morning and unfortunately only came up with 9 wins

but

i did that 2 weeks about and came up with 14 wins

after last night finals look years away but things change very quickly in footy and theres a lot of footy to be played between now and september

we would want to improve rapidly and in a hurry though if we expect to play finals

I went through the fixture too and I have us winning 10 games, same as last year. It may be one of those years when 11 wins may get you in so we are still a chance. Much depends on this week, if we fall too far behind it will be catch up for the rest of the season. We have 4 interstate games to come as well as Stkilda and Geelong, so it will be tough, This is why it so important to win the close games.

Finals is realistic and should be the aim. If we didn't make the finals there would be heat on Ratten and inuendo about new coaches and wasted opportunity etc (and blah blah blah). Plenty of teams have shown how even the comp is. On any given night Richmond can beat North (who are shit anyway), but then North beat Port (who are overated).
Shit happens. We played like shite last night and still only lost by 7. I'm not putting a positive spin on it. We lost. But except for Geelong and St Kilda, we should be able to beat anyone on a given night. Unfortunately we need to actually start winning instead of being close :banghead:

Considering the even nature of the comp, 11 wins may be enough this year. I have the fixture in front of me here and we need to be 6-6 after round 12 to have a real shot you would think. We have the Pies next which is a must win. We then have games against Adelaide and Brisbane away, West Coast at home, and the Saints. You think we would beat West Coast ( :yikes: ), and we need to pinch one of the games interstate as we wont beat those @#$%&! pricks from moorabin this year again the way were going. So we need to beat the Pies, Eagles and Lions/Crows.

After round 12 our draw aint too bad:

Bombers (50/50)
Freo away (50/50)
Richmond (win)
Swans (win)
Pies (50/50)
Kangas (win)
Cats (Loss)
Power away (Loss)
Demons (Win)
Crows (50/50)

If we can be 6 and 6 after round 12, were a chance. But deary me the players better pull their heads out and the match committee need to grow some balls and drop the players who arent worthy of the jersey.

What better way to revive our campaign against the Pies

It's all about momentum. I gave us about twelve wins all-up before this week but last nights loss makes it looks a long way off. I can't help thinking that we got a year ahead of ourselves and prepared accordingly.

Of course we can make finals.

We've lost 4 games and still in the top 8.

We've lost 4 games by a combined total of 33pts.

We've lost 4 games because of inaccuracy in front of goal.

The only teams I'd pencil in as loses are St Kilda and Geelong, the rest are very winnable.

1. only in the 8 because of our round 1 % (which is being slowly eroded)
2. we still lost: they don't do a review at the end of the h&a rounds and look at who lost by the least margin (that's -16 points.PERIOD)
3. see point 2
4. technically, all games are winnable, its looking at the most realistic scenario that you consider. No more than 7 for the rest of the year by my calculations
8. Go back to your opening comment. "Of course we could also finish bottom 6" It's a motherhood statement used to motivate academically challenged students who are averaging 20% "Of course you can pass, but you'll have to start getting 80s and 90% in your last test and final exam".

Personally, Gee, Stk, WB, Coll, Bris (enough games at the Gabba) Haw are ahead of us. Ess, Freo, Syd, Adel are all in our ballpark. Dunno I'd be betting on us making the 8 this year

If we had this

Half Forwards: Chris Yarran Matthew Kreuzer Angus Monfries
Forwards: John Anthony Brendan Fevola Eddie Betts

Instead of

Half forwards Chris Yarran Matthew Kreuzer Jordan Russell
Forwards Cameron Cloke Brendan Fevola Eddie Betts

I think top four would be on the cards....

Collingwood - 50/50
Adelaide - 50/50
Brisbane - Up there.... Loss
West Coast - Should win
Saints - NO
Bombers - On past performances.....NO
Freo - At Subi - Probably Not
Richmond - We better!
Swans - Here they are a different proposition.... Still be 50/50
Collingwood - 50/50
Kangas - On past performances.....NO, but we should be them this year, shouldn't we?
Cats - No Chance
Power - 50/50
Demons - We Better
Crows - 50/50

Pencil (and I do mean Pencil) in 3 wins. That gives us 6 wins.

2 Definite losses

The rest are 50/50 or we will be slight underdogs and playing teams that match up well on us and/or have the wood on us (Dons, Roos, Swans, Freo, Adelaide, Pies)... Need to win 6 of the 50/50 games to have a chance.

The losses to Dons, Hawks and Freo will haunt us this year.....

We're winning 2, then losing two...

Keep that up and we win 12 games, with a solid percentage and, hell... depending on other results we could end up 5th. It's pretty tight season so far.

:garthp:

John Anthony looks more like Mount Rushmore than a match winning forward who would put into the top four.

How will Monfries play his two good games a year if he isn't playing against the Blues?

If we don't make the finals it will be a huge blow. If that unpleasant event does happen we re-evaluate from there.

Yarran??? Based on what? He has played one game and if he delivers, will probably need a couple of seasons to do so. We are very unrealsistic as to what we actually have in realised talent on our list. Yes we have potential talent...but potential talent is not tangible...that is you do not benefit from it until its realised...which won't be this season for many on our list.

Very tight and its all about who can get up some momentum out of the bottom 14 (as Geelong and Stkilda look like finishing top two). If we can win two in a row or three in a row somewhere in there this will enough to get us in the 8. However I do not place as much importance on the 8 as I do on playing consistantly good footy. Playing consistantly should be our goal this year and the rest will follow.

I'm not sure that would work mate. I'm not quite as scathing in my opinion of Monfries as Blueice is, as he was pretty good against the Hawks, and I hate to say it as it shouldn't be all about the Fev, but you have to be very careful about the structure around him. Which unfortunately is the very difficult issue that Ratts and the MC are struggling with. Anthony to me as with Blueice shouldn't be an option even if he was available.

Mediums such as Chapman and Steve Johnson would be the go. They could not only be dangerous deep, but are very comfortable bringing the ball in when dragged high. The fly in that ointment is where do you find those types? If we move Kreuzer forward we lose what he can offer around the ground...can we clone him?

1. Bulldogs win is still not eroded.
2. You don't make finals at Round 7. They do reviews at Round 7 to work out what's going wrong and improve in those areas. If we were playing at the top of our game and everyone in top form then you should be worried.
4. We can all calculate nothing wrong with that. But, just check the results over the past 7 rounds and if you can predict what will happen in the next 15 rounds put your house on it.
8? - My opening comment is for people who strive for success not failure. People who want success will have a can do attitude, no such thing as can't, can't is for lazy people.
