Verbeek & Livlovers posts spot on.

No, they displayed a lack of understanding of what's required to establish and perfect the structures they expect.....just like your post has.
Our players are coming from miles behind. The set ups and structures required take years of practice and implementation to perfect. Meanwhile, our team which finished bottom 2 for the majority of the past 6 years ran the reigning premiers to within 4 points. We had more scoring shots, more inside 50s and in reality, were unlucky to lose the game. That doesn't happen by accident.
It occurred because the coach that recieved a paragraph of "cons" has the most exciting young team in the AFL playing strong, consistent, competitive footy.

Some of the ill informed rants in this thread are mind numbing.

Spot on. Hence my criticism on verbeek on page 1 ( for you too dannyboy  )

The players are being taught some things which are not coming easily to the ones who spent 5 years scared of making a skill error lest they be humiliated by a certain individual. So at times when they feel the pressure, like in the intense zones, they fall back to older habits.

And I disagree Heady - on saturday it was not that we fell back in to old habits at all. In fact we have come a long, long way as evidenced by the game. It now remains to be seen whether we can take the next step ( which I am not expecting to occur any time soon by the way).

I think we forgot past lessons (and why we went with Robbo and Garlett early) and chose a slower side on the weekend. We have to be careful we do not leave it to too few to do the chasing.

I want to see evidence that we know the importance of working the mark and stuff like that.

They are just two cons that we need to work on.

And its good to see what we need to work on.

I think Ratts would have seen it too :smoking:

Pro reminders:

* Kreuzer is coming along brilliantly. His second and third efforts are soemthing to behold and our extra ruck-rover takes a good mark!
* Joseph is coming along very well. Some of his taps and tackles and just hard-at-it work are top notch.

Judd Murphy Kreuzer at the stoppages. Brilliant
Stevens disposal
Scotland was good
Bower was fantastic. Great tight game on Franklin
Reckon Joseph is a beauty. Will make a fine mid
Armfield is a goer.
Waite plays the loose man in defence well

Con
Waite kicking out. Why
Thornton. So disappointing to see this guy play the way he did. Gave Roughhead too much latitude. Terrible
Who was on Dowler
Houlihan. Have a look at the spoiling attempt on Roughead 5 minutes before half time. Jumped too early and too far away to avoid full body contact. Was in the best spot to punch the ball. ball falls to the side goal to Williams. Not good enough
Russell goes to ground too much.
Cloke and Bentley enough said
The biggest disappointment to me was Bryce Gibbs He needs to become more involved and get in amongst it at the stoppages. His decisionmaking at times was terrible on Sat. Had 25 possessions but had minimal impact. Kicking lacked penetration and does he have a left foot. He is young and has been good this year but IMO is miles off being a star

I thought his chasing in the first qtr was quite poor. He had no real endeavour in that first qtr at all, which was disappointing. Needs to get in and under a bit more.

Not Gibbs' first bad game this year. Getting the numbers but having very little impact at all. His hands not as sure as I remember last year: a few times over the last 2 weeks where they have cost us.

PRO
Tidy in round one, BOG in round 2, ok in 3, noone played well in 4, great in 5 and nowhere near his best in round 6.
Looking forward to watching him through his early twenties.

Have noticed kicking for goal has been poor this year. Had a left to right fade.

Gun ! Maybe not Murphy and Krooz quality but they are super special.

I think people forget that even though he was selected only 12 months after him Gibbs is actually 20 months younger than Murph.

Last year many of us thought he was a step ahead of Murphy but the comparison this year is only stark because Murphy's just stepped up to absolute A grade midfielder level.

Give Bryce 18 months to two years and I expect he'll be at least where Murphy's at now.

First 2 games were first rate. Since then he hasn't had much impact, and a case of the fumbles.

Yeah maybe. Dont like comparing them really. Very different players. Murphy has been great since day one. Good that he got tagged in year 2 as that taught him a few lessons. He is starting to stand up in tackles these days ala Ablett which is a good sign for the future.

Pro
Gibbs is a general. A couple of sloppy games but will improve his consistency as he matures you would think.

People seem to forget that Bryce is one month older than Kreuzer and a couple of years younger than Murph

Murph has gone to another level and is a jet an arguably our most consistent player over the first 6 rounds - but is more experienced than Bryce

Kreuz is also doing spectacularly but I would argue Gibbs fits confortably in the same group/company as BOTH murph and kreuz -all will barring injury be 200 game players for the club - all have leadership qualities -all are self effacing -all are bloody fine footballers

Noticed on the website that on Saturday he is the 5th youngest Carlton player to play 50 games -played 49 of a possible 50 games

He at 20 is a fantastic player who needs to be cut some slack - its a bit like when Juddy and Ablett get 25 possessions the have had an ordinary game -the expectation is monumental - if someone like yarran plays 50 games as good as Gibbs we would be all over ourselves

Bryce Gibbs is an exceptional young player who even though is tremendous will have ups and downs in form

Patients with you players please
