Pros:
- We won.
- Murphy was awesome.
- Gibbs fantastic, reads the play like nobody's business.
- Kreuzer is the Energizer bunny.
- WIGGINS started well but faded.
- Russell is getting better by the week, excellent game by him.
- Joseph I thought had a very good game, that one-on-one with Griffen in the 2nd (?) quarter was inspiring
- 21 goals but only 3 from Fev
- We're 3rd on the ladder
- Excellent standard of game, pulsating from start to 5 minutes before the finish.

Cons:
- Johnson's kicking was abysmal. At least 4 kicks that went straight to Bulldogs players with no one near them.
- Letting in junk time goals, occasional lapses. Frustrating, but also a pro in that we stemmed the momentum in the second quarter particularly.
- THE HOLDING THE BALL UP AND LET'S ALL PLAY KICK TO KICK SYMBOL :banghead:

Pro:

I thought Santy added an extra edge of flexibility across HF. Looked OK with his disposal (Except for that muffed effort in the last) and presenting.

Loved the game but seriously we did not kick a goal in the last 10 minutes...playing kick to kick possession footy for the last 5 minutes when the game is unloseable instead of slamming on more goals is a definite con...

Pro: Have all been said, great win from the guys.

Cons:
-Johnson's erratic kicking. Some of his kicks were fantastic but some were just appalling. Maybe its a concentration issue.
-Smashed in the clearences. We really missed Hadley and Jacobs in that area.

Drives me crazy as well but it does make some cold hard sense and I think it's more than tempo footy.

Going hard at it in the last 10 minutes may mean more % but it also means
* greater probability of injuries
* sorer more worn out players that need to recover in 6 days to play the hawks

I hate it but the road to our next premiership is a marathon not a sprint. Happy for them to lose the battle for the last 10 minutes to win the war in September.

PROS:
Apart from the straight kicking, the big feature was the way the boys ran the ball through the centre corridor after playing far too wide the previous two weeks.

CON:
Johnson - Apart from all the turnovers, he doesn't run the ball like Scotland, Simpson, Armfield, Waite, Thornton, Joseph, Bower or just about any of the other possible defenders.

Agree. Aggressive running from the backline has so much going for it.
- Doesn't allow opposition to get numbers back
- Run the ball through the zone with good sharing by hand (ie Cats) and come through to an open forward line
- Great to watch
- Scoring shots from in front instead of the boundary
- Players enjoy their footy more (Neil Craig take note)
- It wins games

The only problems I can find with it are
- taxing on the players - is it sustainable?
- can get hurt on the turnover

Pros:
Murphy: What can you say, it was a very impressive display.
Kruezer: He played like a man a foot shorter than he is.
Gibbs: How does he find the space he does?
Carlos: A good game, clever goal and some good disposal on the run.

Cons:
We need to protect Judd more.
Johnson: His kicking was ordinary. Hope he is ok.
Kicking out against the big zone needs to be looked at.

Looking forward to next week.

Interesting how quickly people jumped on JR as a con when they could, but refuse to recognise when he has good matches.....

he doesnt have enough good games though

So his continuing improvement can't be considered a Pro?

Some people need to have a bloody hard look at themselves.

is a wonderful kick.

cant help but remember his failure to hit cloke from 15 metres away on the wing in the first quarter resulting in a turnover.

i know that its only once but i dont really see him as pro and wouldnt have stated him as one.

yes russell was alright today, but needs to play like that more often. not every player that has a "good match" will be recognised

The only Con was CJ's kicking for me. I wonder if he came into the game with a quad problem? Seemed to lack penetration in his kicks. Anyway Grigg will come in for him next week if fit.

Now for the Pros:

- Carlos I gave votes as I felt he had a massive influence at CHF in the second half. I think he has found a new lease of life, looked a completely different player to last season.

- Army was courgeous, fast and tackled like a man posessed, also took a few decent marks and spoils.

- JR is sizzling in front of goals this year, the confidence is briming and it shows. Is pushing his second step for 2009.

- Simmo has really been struggling the past 2-3 weeks, great return to form today, really gave us some run and carry and took the game on.

- Carrots on Gilbee did the job.

- Now Stevo is interesting, he didn't get much of it but he did alot of chasing and harrassing today, really put in a few long hard efforts which impressed me. Also I thought some of his work around clearances was good. Message to Ratts, don't put Stevens in defence again please.

- Plenty of other great contributors, no need to talk about Gibbs, Murphy, Kreuzer, I expect those performances every week now, Scotland was great in his comeback also.

...He is NOT a ruckman but Setanta brought much needed versatility to the team and was useful at both ends of the ground. At CHF, he doesn't have such a wide turning circle as Cloke and catches out quite a few opponents with his sharp change of direction. Might not be one of our best 22 players but should always be in the 22......

Well described RR
That critical moment where he gathered the ball at CHF in the 4th qtr & spun on a dime & passed to betts was sensational. This was the type of play some of us have seen him display in the bullants over the last 5 years & have been craving him to show us in the seniors.

These threads remind me how much the game has changed.

"kick the bloody thing!"
"the problem is we aren't manning up"

20 years ago these were often valid points
10 years ago I was annoyed when fans at the ground would say these things.
I don't hear these phrases at all anymore.

He IS a different player. Last year, he was seriously hampered by his calf problems which eventually forced him out altogether. Those within the club who mounted a campaign to depict him as a malingerer or sook over those problems need to be weeded out and kicked to the kerb. Send them to Richmond where their weasel ways will fit in nicely. Santy has always been one of the most intense, committed and courageous blokes at the club. Now his body's right after the surgery last year, he's going to shove it up a few people. Go Santy!!!!!!!

It's not that.

It's doing it when there's 5 minutes left in the quarter and being so damned obvious about it. If they came up with some other symbol (like, say, rubbing the calf when going back to take the kick) it wouldn't be as annoying.
