Sydney were not bottom four last year, so don't assume that we lost to an inferior team because we didn't.

I meant Essenscum

Are you sure Essendon* are a bottom 4 side?

They are surely better than Melbourne, West Coast and Freo.

They may well be better than North, Richmond, Swans and (heaven forbid) us.

At least this will take the fcous a bit away. But I repeat again - if you can't transfer dominance into goals you loose. 3.12 at halftime. Just need to convert - gameplan worked fine in the firt half the rest is that the players drop off.

We need to get back to being the hunters not the hunted.

We've had 5 years of misery and the players should be hungry for success.

Unless we at least put up a fight against two top-four teams (one who we have a good record against, the other very wounded) the next couple of weeks, we won't make the finals. Maybe that's just anger talking, but I can't see a team full of kids and led by so many mentally soft 'senior' players having the fortitude to break some of our flowered-up habits anytime soon.

My point exactly Wa FROM LAST WEEK -why arent they super hungry
Why dont they want to make teams pay
Why dont we translate our dominance on the scoreboard

Until they are superhungry and have a consistency of effort we are going to languish - if this continues we could be 2 wins out of 6 after playing DOGS and Hawks - down with Richmond

I think a motivational video of us being pumped by most sides in the recent history needs to be shown to remind us of what happened to us. We now have more of the players required to win games and they should be playing accordingly.

That said I still think we'll do pretty well long term.

Still a long way to go this season but if people thought or think we are a top 4 side they are wide off the mark. 7-8 will be an achievement with our young list. Losing today didnt hurt as much as losing last week because we really should have won that game. Sydney at home is always tough. The Hawks who seem to be the model finished 11th in Clarksons 2nd season after coming 14th the year before. We weren't that far off today despite our key forward being clearly injured and receiving little support except from Betts and the midfield being off except for the obvious.

For next week Fisher should play as he is a consistently better marking option than Cloke and takes some pressure of Fevola. Scotland are Carrazzo mature bodies. Johnson looks a bit soft to me. Setanta must be worth a punt for his height and hopefully Jamison will be right next week. I'd give Brownie a go too.

I think our motivation dropped after our forwards couldn't finish off the hard work.

Imagine if you were one of our midfielders seeing your hard work go to waste...it's hard to maintain the work rate, especially when on some occassions from kickouts Sydney would go coast to coast and kick goals. It's demoralising for the midfielders and defenders.

If we had've kicked straight in the first/early second qtr the game could have been out of Sydney's reach!

It's such an even competition, if you don't take your opportunities early in the game inevitably the opposition will make you pay for those missed shots on goal.

Is our game plan (ie. Ratten's coaching) really that bad, or is the player's inability to apply the game plan poor? Ratts gameplan was good enough to give us 15 shots on goal in the first half, hardly his fault that we missed 12 of them. Ditto the first quarter against Essendon*. I'm sure Ratts game plan doesn't include leaving space in the corridoor from ball-ups/throw-ins to allow Watson last week and McVeigh this week to lazily run onto a hitout and waltz into goal.

Totally over rated.

We will be lucky to even play finals after the last two weeks.

Very disappointed

the only people that over rate carlton are carlton people....u ask any non carlton supporter and they will say that we are 6-10 team, i think we should make the finals but we are not that good...i know we played sydney in sydney and most teams lose there but they dictated play all day which shitted me, slowing the game down and making us go wide...we look too slow from the back half.
we need to play browne, someone who actually defends, we are way to loose in defence aswell...we need to get the balance right i think
ratten has been outcoached 2 weeks in a row...when i heard his press conference this week that its gonna be a grind and we have to outgrind sydney i was like u idiot thats what they want.
he needs to play stevens in the center, stop this bullshit with him sweeping
he also needs to support fev, we need a CHF..i know we dont have one but play someone other then cloke, too slow. i would play kreuz at CHF and bring in hampson and yarran just to spice things up abit, whats there to lose they couldnt do any worse then cloke and russell

Time to take a deep breathe.

Sydney beat Hawthorn, the team we all wanted to be like over summer, at home.

We've had 1 great week, 1 good week, 1 poor week and 1 average week.

We're playing about as well as we were rated.

If you'd offereed us a 2-2 start we'd have taken it.

You reckon we;d have taken our chances on being 1-3. Maybe you're right.

Richmond was always 50-50 although we should have been confident
Brisbane was 50-50 again given a poor record against them.
Essendon* we'd have expected to win
Sydney was always going to be tough interstate and given our recent record against them.

We really would have hoped to be 3-1. The expectation and resultant letdown has come from beating Richmond by 83 points....not from our pre-season.

+1
I'm sick of hearing the fact that it's an overreaction and that the season is long and that we were a final 8 side blah blah......
Bottom line is this. We were 7th or 8th at best and to even achieve this, we needed to take our chances. We flowered up on a massive scale last week against an understrength ess side and ditto today to a swans side sans hall oloughlin barry and kennelly (i know he's gone). We should have been 3-1 at worst after today. We will most likely be 2-4 after round 6. That puts us at -2. To make the 8, you need to be at +2 (12 wins/10losses) This means that in the last 16 games, we will need to win 4 games MORE than we lose. in that time, we travel up to the gabba, aami and play geelong. Sorry fellow TCers, but we may well have shot ourselves in the foot these past two rounds. I really hope it turns around, but I no like what I see

i think you will find its a very even competition and yes we have blown some chances but thats not to say that the next 2 games are penned as losses

bulldogs coming back from WA after being there twice in a month - could be ripe for the picking

and hawks have been just as woeful as us in patches

can easily still be 4 - 2 and everyone will be saying how good we are again

pretty fickle this game

2 - 2 healthy percentage - some chances blown

not the end of the world

but dissapointing yes
