Don't stress Melvs, we'll be putting boot stud marks on the scalps of Essendon* as we reach for our 17th.

THEY KNOW WE'RE COMING.....

doesn't say WE KNOW WE HAVE ARRIVED.

The promise is still there.

And thats how i would have approached it. Keep it all in house, shut up and go about dismantling teams like they've done to us as our motivation and not promoting our selves as the next best thing since sliced bread.

It's funny how much quieter he was while we were winning.

if jezza was in charge he'd put the marketing dept through a horror tuesday night training ... he'd say to them that if they weren't prepared to run on match-day then they'd run during the week.

hopefully the marketing dept can learn from this and bounce back. my spies tell me they're already preparing a replacement slogan which is waiting on the melvs stamp of approval. i think following melv's input it may go something like this:

"carlton: they know we're not collingwood or Essendon*, nor do we have alan richardson or eddie macguire, nor do we have a back 6 ... and pah-leeze don't mention our KP recruitment; but we got a couple of nice kids as a result of us being totally crap so hop on board but don't barrack too loudly lest you offend the sensibilities of our all-conquering rivals".

it'd be Carlton - buy another team's membership.

any team

Essendon* - they pull our pants down.

Richmond - they have depth

Collingwood - they are a professional unit

Hawthorn - Homer drool

Geelong - Homer drool

Fremantle - at least they are so far away you can ignore their strengths and weaknesses.

Melbourne - they only way is up

St Kilda - they know how to win - not flags but hey ours was a long time ago, not as long as theirs but hey I know about theirs.

Adelaide x 2 - either or both, they have better songs, jumpers, grounds, histories, and second tier players than us.

West Coast - One word - Cur - sorry, Kerr! oh and cock...no wait Cox. Two words, but two better words than Carlton.

The Roos - Spirit! Backbone! Toilet sex!

Bulldogs - real supporters, considerate, humble, fast.

Sydney - sexy.

Brisbane - So much better than us - they once won three in a row - imagine that! And we only beat them with a bit of luck.

Oh and all new teams are already better than us, more professional, understand the nuances of the modern game and never get ahead of themselves - that G40000 will win a flag in 4 years - or so they say, now that's marketing!

To carry on about the an advertising/marketing slogan and relate it to on-field performance shows how intellectually crippled this constant line of argument is.

Over the past 7 seasons of this club serving up tripe on the football field we have managed a win/loss ratio against Essendon* and Collingwood far in excess of our actual win/loss ratio - what did these wins mean in the context of list development - nothing except the short term satisfaction of a win against the traditional enemy.

Just as Essendon*'s win will mean nothing to the long term development of their list - Essendon*'s total pre-season focus of trying to win this game will be shown in the long run will be seen to be just a mentally flawed as the argument about our marketing slogan this year.

I take far more out of this 4 point loss against Essendon* which was fabricated by the performance of a few over 30 year old players playing out their last hurrahs.

We played poorly, lacked intensity, had a couple of selection mistakes and a reactive coaches box and lost by 4 points.

Once again if a few trollsters want to play amongst the turnips and gain some satisfaction with the "I told you sos" - thats their problem.
