Camelboy, Im not getting any joy whatsoever out of this situation.

Its more a matter of a cold hard look at how to get out of the mess we are in any which way we can, even if that means using the rules in a way that is to your advantage but is actually against the spirit of the rules.

The thought of tanking (done in the best possible way so that it that doesnt look like tanking) is something that actually makes me feel sick to the guts.

But Id prefer to be sick to the guts knowing that the time of sickness will be limited rather than feeling happy about a team perception based on a few hollow wins at the end of the year but leaving us without the quality draft picks that we desperately need.

There are some very hard choices to make out there, these choices are sometimes where there are no nice options to choose from.

Of course, you could just as easily use:

Riewoldt
Kossie
Didak
Livingston

as your example. Pretty big difference between 1 and 2, then another big difference between 2 and 3, then down to 4.

Judd would have to be the best No.3 there'll ever be.

Judd #3, Pavlich #4 ... I'd say we could get something pretty useful out of pick #3. Indeed if we do get the spoon and end up with picks #1 and #3, would you expect the club to trade either of those picks?

Wasn't the word around this time last year that the "Deledio" draft was going to be thin? Well I can't see too many teams knocking back any of the guys that went top 5. We'll certainly be a major player come draft day this year in terms of the top 5 picks, so while there are plenty of arguments to promote the benefits of playing for a PP, if we missed it, I don't believe it would be the panacea that many are suggesting. Not ideal granted, but Carlton will still survive.

The top 5 players were standouts last year and were penciled in well before the draft just their order flip flopped a bit. This year you can't say the same, not saying that they can't become great players but it's just not as apparant at the moment.

Blues 2005 stated 'I guess I wouldn't be too upset, you'd expect to get a gun at pick 3..."

Pick 3 is likely to be a good player, but not an elite player because the draft isnt as good as we might have hoped for..

We need players that have the promise that Kernahan or Bradley had in 1986, not just a very good player that might happen to be a gun if we are very lucky.

God you lot are painfull :x

Murphy is heaps better than whoever comes in at #2.

If Murphy decides to go F/S to Brizzy, then they are the winners from this years draft.

If he decides to stay in Melb, I'd rather go last and get him, than go 2nd last and not get him.

But if that happens, ce la vie.

Won't be worse than missing out on BJ and Wells, but it will compound the pain.

If in 6 years time he hasn't fulfilled his promise, we can all say "Thank goodness we didn't pick him up". Nothing beats a good "I told you so"

I will be happy with whoever we pick up, at whatever position, but my preference will be to pick up MM.

is there any chance that we can all move on and discuss some other things for the next 7 or 8 weeks?

Or better yet, get on down to the Talking Stuff forum and give us your best Marx Brothers quotes...they are heaps funnier, wittier and more incisive than anything happening here. 8)

Awww... this is fun, Mrs Caz.

What else are we going to talk about if not the draft?

And what's the record for a thread in the TC section?

I'm willing to call a truce.

Cadel Evans is in a breakaway in tonight's stage of the Tour de France, dare say he's riding for a win to honour the dead and injured Australian cyclists.

C'mon girls, we all need to put our handbags away or we'll turn into Geelong supporters.

HOLY CRAP!!

Just looked at the footy draft website and they list Murphy as Pick#2!!!

This means we have to win this week or we'll miss out on him and we'll never win another game let alone premiership :o :o

Who exactly is Xavier Ellis and what sort of conspiracy was it to list him as #1. Do they really think we'll fall for it - surely we're not that stupid :P .

The draft system represents EVERYTHING that is wrong about football. When supporters start supporting to lose because the system rewards losers, then it just cannot be right...

Cant agree with you enough Wolfister - however unfortunately it is the only system we have right now - if you want to change it I am happy to nominate you for a position on the AFL Commission.

Is it too late to ask Wallsy to write an article bagging the Hawks this week?
