Its obvious that when we play a team with better skills we will score 0 goals.
Get used to it people!

I think having two talls instead of three is a much better setup. More mobile and better able to provide defensive pressure. Robinson and Garlett along with Fev providing much needed tackling pressure. Previously if the ball wasn't marked inside 50 (most of the time) it would be swept out with ease. Based on the pre season and last night's game the forward line defensive pressure is being addressed. Cloke's attack on the contest was very good, was outnumbered on numerous occassions and was able to create a contest for the crumbers.

AJ can be excused last night when he had the ball at half forward, Fev was surrounded by Richo and Simmonds but AJ still kicked the ball too him...the youngsters need to be told they don't have to kick it to the superstar/senior player at every opportunity.

One other thing is that Kreuzer on numerous occassions drifts forward without anyone picking him up. Has shown he can take a contested mark up forward, and he's still not that strong, wait another 3-4 years.

People complain because we are to Fevola conscious and he kicks most of the goals - now we have 11 goalkickers kick 23 goals and Fev only kicks 2 our forwards/crumbers get 11 and the midfield another 11 - no pleasing some people.

Going by what Nathan Thompson said on the footy show this morning we going to have to continue on with how we started. He said the Michael Firitto suffered a bruise heel last year and struggled through the entire season with it

does anyone know anyone else in the AFL who has had a bruised heel?

im worried fev may be in a spot of bother and will only kick 2 out of our 25 goals each week

I've got a bruised shin, thats close to my ankle and I didn't kick any goals this week. So I think we're stuffed

Yep, and that will lead to allegations of us being too teamcentric and not enough Fevcentric.

Now teams can't rush as many behinds, the forward pressure will create lots of opportunities.
Geelong loves to handball the footy around the place until they get a player clear. Handballing through traffic creates a potential turnover. More handballs, more opportunities. If we have the pressure on Geelong that we had on Richmond, even they will turn the footy over occasionally.
Fev's tackles in the first five minutes can't be underestimated. Being crunched by a 105 kg raging bull the first time you get it tends to make one wonder where said bull is located as you go for an uncontested possession thirty seconds later. Yeah, they made zillions of errors but heaps of them were due to the relentless pressure on the ball receiver.

the way to beat any team is with intense forward and defencive pressure. You only have to see what happened to Geelong last year against the Pies to see that no team is immune to it.
My question is if we can repeat that level of performance week in, week out. I don't think that any team could, so I am interested to see what plan B will be if we find ourselves in an arm wrestle. I get a feeling that next week against the lions will give us a very good idea of where we are at.

BTW I bloody well hope that Fev can get over the bruised heel by next week.

We've certainly got a far, far better forward structure these days. Other than Hawthorn's, most dangerous forwardlines in the AFL are those with multiple dangerous mediums/smalls. Some good recruiting has helped. As has Wiggin's remarkable improvement over the last 18 months.

Cloke looks like he'll perform an important Spalding-type role within our structure. But if we're going to develop Kreuzer as a ruckman rather than a forward, we still need a couple of talented, developing talls.

If Fevs heel was that bad he shouldnt have come off when there was only 7 minutes left in the game...he should not played the entire last quarter then as we had the game in the bag already...i recon he will still perform alright...some good chases and a bomb from on the 50m boundary.

Bit of discussion about this on the night and the consensus was the medicos didn't get the dose of painkillers right.

Doc might be able to shed a bit more light on this, I wasn't sure if his foot was numb or it wasn't numbed enough.
