Coming up to his 5th Birthday and needs a new Carlton Jumper - he wants a sleeveless which his grandmother is having conniptions over- but I digress.
Hi DN...have just lived through this phase...aged 7 and 10
Tell Gran (worried about cold?) that sleeveless is the way to go...why?...because he can pull it over all the other clothes he's wearing...and they eventually do.

Cutting to the chase he wants number 12 on his jumper because he "wants to have one of the new players"
I an slightly uncomfortable with this and I am trying to push for the 'safer' options of 5, 4, 25, 8.
Can I trust that a number 12 will be a good investment for the future wearing of the jumper to games.
7 year old (at 5) wanted number 43....nothing wrong with that until you realise that "He" will retire soon and the jumper will be rested for at least a year and then I will be up for a new jumper when he doesn't want to wear it anymore and grows out of it...
Convinced him that
a) he is skinny and little - AB, KS, EB,
b) tough as blazes with dark hair - KS, EB
c) Looks like Simmo - KS
Number needs to be no 6.....aalso told him that Simmo was related to the Simpsons - he bought it and has loved Simmo and No 6 ever since.
The 10 year old grew up on a diet of that freebie AFL DVD "Memorable moments" so it was always "Jesaulenko you beauty!"...also loved Fev so the No 25 was easy

Does anyone have any horror stories about getting a number that turned out to be a bit embarrassing or didn't live up to the promise?
Nah, got close...years ago someone bought me a signed Card of Adam Chatfield as a gift (obviously cheap!)...irony is it is probably very collectible and I have no idea where it is!
edit...BTW nothing wrong with number 12
