It's about time this guy was recognised.

As other posters would concede, I've been a fan from the first game I saw him play. In fact when we drafted Brown and Army, their profiles were very impressive having been accustomed to senior footy and bigger bodies in the WAFL, but having seen them in the flesh at training, they both impressed me with their hardness at the ball (even back then) and their pace.

I have always favoured Armfield over Brown mainly because of the height and reach advantage. I don't think Armfield is bad overhead at all, in fact I would say he has become more defensively minded. Single minded enough to close down his opponent as his number 1 priority. If he's lost a bit of his marking with his defensive approach, then I think once he's more comfortable with himself, I believe that part of his game will come back....probably in our premiership year.

Last game in 2008, apart from that freak goal from the boundary in the first, Armfield did not give Rioli another sniff.

He has taken his game to another level in 2009, and where I think he has improved is his kicking at full pace. I like the way he runs and then doesn't drop off pace, just straighten's his back, continues the after burners and delivers. I knew he would get that right one day without having to slow down and steady. His running is instinctive, and now he's got the pace of the game (he had that) and the timing of the drop of the ball at full pace, he's deadly.

Yep deadly enough to play on a wing, HB, HF or even BP. If there's room for Brown and Army in the first 22, great, but for mine, the taller of the 2 in a BP suits me just fine. And unlike the left footed Grigg, Army has got 2 sides to dispose from, enabling him to get out of trouble if need be. That's an advantage in my books.

This kids pace is AFL standard. I think this kid's a fixture in the first 22 at Carlton in 2009 and beyond. Great tackler too.

He's still my preferred back pocket in the first 22....and a better tagger this year too. Last year Harvey displayed all his tricks against Army, but he definetely learnt a bit from that because he gave Harvey a bath a fornight ago imo.

Geez WH has drafted us a few good players late in the draft: Betts, Jamison, Setanta, Robinson, Armfield, Browne, Robinson, Garlett and O'Keefe to name a few.

Amazing Armfield was considered a top 10 in his first eligible year....and his background prior to that was Rugby.

His pretty good but i definitely would have Steven Browne in the side before him but he would soon be ahead of carazoo,Bentick and maybe one day in the future Stevens as he is getting close to 30.
