When do our players and rookies who miss out on the nab cup squad get
pre season match practice? Do they play in bullants practice games?
I would imagine they would need to get match fit prior to start of seaon?
For example brown pfeiffer ellard edwards not to mention guys coming back
From injury like hartlett bannister bentick and scotland?

Can anybody shed some light on where Jake Edwards is at and
why he isn't getting a run in the expanded nab cup squads?
I haven't read any news on him in training reports or inter club games?

I thought he showed promise last year in the few senior games
he played and we could certainly use another big fwd option
especially if Fev gets injured?

Jake - is that you?!

No idea mate. I can only assume you'd have to impress on the track at training in order to get a crack...

Agree.

I'm sure the same applies to Bullants players, They would have to have some praccy games before the season starts (which is a few weeks after AFL starts).

Pfieffer and Browne have been injured and probably have to recover from the groin and shoulder problems first. They're playing catch up. Same goes with Scotland, Bannister, Bentick and Hartlett.

As for Edwards, there's no doubt in my mind that he was played last year because Fish was out, and whilst he did OK in the AFL, he didn't really lock himself into a forward position.

I would love to see Edwards step up and demand a spot in the ones because of his pace, but I would say that in terms of form and AFL readiness, Cloke, Fish, Kreuzer and Fev are well ahead of him for a spot in the forwardline.

IMO, he's been disappointing in the Ants, and has been called up to replace a similar sized forward due to injury and not form. Again, imo, I would think Hartlett is ahead of him too, in talent and in preference by the coach.

Edwards has a long way to go and has to earn a spot. I hope he does.

So the question is whether the Ants have started practise games; I don't know.

I believe there was a practise game against the Kangas reserve squad at 8 am today guys... someone will pop up with some details at some point.

There's your progress report.

Thankz for update Bondi. Interesting re jake edwards, this time last year he
was playing in nab cup and doing well, remember him taking some great marks
and kicking a few in an early nab cup game, then he got some senior games
In the H\A season and showed some promise and now he is not even in our top 30
I wonder if he is out of favour? I've seen him play some good footy for Bullants but
seems quite inconsistent. He looked fast has good hands and good kick and big guys do take longer to develop.
For those that have seen training this year or are in the know, how has he been performing? Does he show commitment?

The Ants went down to the Roos by a couple of goals. Carlton players to step out were:
Browne - played in defence - not especially prominent.
Setanta - played FB/CHB and was very good with the exception of one occasion when he was outmarked due to poor judgement.
O'Keefe - played HBF and looked very good - has a booming left foot kick.
Austin - played CHB/FB - mostly against Aaron Edwards - had some dashing runs and was hard in his attack on the ball but beaten on the lead as usual.
Edwards - kicked a couple of goals - marked strongly on a couple of fast leads but did nothing else.
Stanton - struggled to stay with Daniel Harris in a midfield run-with role and then trailed his opponent when moved to HBF - copped a mild bake from Teaguey.
Ellard - moved onto Harris in the middle of the first quarter and tagged him the rest of the day - played very well - knocked up laying strong tackles.
Hill - played wing - quiet early but prominent after half time with aggressive running and long kicking.

Hope I didn't forget anyone.

Lots of new Bullants' players to watch as well but I was unfamilar with most of them. Nick Meese kicked 3 goals from strong marks in the forward line and Paul Colbert was very active in the way that Edwards wasn't.

Ahh, Rodent, where would be without you??? :thanks:

Not a glowing account of Edwards but encouraging signs from O'Keefe, it seems.

Good, too, to see Santy hit back and kick some butt ....
