This is the part of the season I get excited about and grimace at in equal measure.

Christmas is over, having taken most supporters minds off the footy for a short period of time.

Now the build-up is commencing, another year to turn our dream of success into a reality... before Round 1, anything is possible.

But before that comes the pre-season comp. And with that - the worry.

It seems like only a couple of years ago when I was watching Carlton play Footscray at my aunty's place. The game
Luke O'Sullivan did his knee by tripping in the only divot on an otherwise perfect Waverley ground.

This is why I pray - No MC Hammer jokes ;) - that the entire squad makes it through the pre-season unscathed. That there
are no season/career ending injuries.

I want to know that we have tried our best every year, with the best possible team on the ground...

...Amen.

I was at that game when Rhino did his knee and only a few metres away from where it happened.

The piece of turf actually moved underneath him, the sod was not properly grown into the ground, not sure whether he ever sued, but he would have had a solid case. Poor bugger.

Missed the last train home that night and had to hitch-hike into the city and then walk home to brunswick. That was a long night.

Shit, I was there too. I think I was about 10 rows back from you.

Last pre-season game I've ever been to. Sat there the whole night wondering why I just don't wait until the proper football starts.

I'll watch us on telly though. But for me, going to the footy starts in Rd 1.

Who was the Carlton player who injured himself after stepping in a sprinkler hole at Waverley?

That's why I don't go to pre-season games. It's great to get a footy fix but in all honesty, there are
nothing more than glorified scratch matches.

Although I understand game time for our players is needed to work them into the season proper, I often think
that it would be better just to chuck in the kids and Bullants players (if that's even possible) and wrap up our
guns in cotton wool until Round 1...

...aside from protecting your stars it would also be a great motivator for young kids on the cusp to apply themselves
so that they can play 'real' AFL one day.

Every player needs match conditioning... Not even Judd can possibly play Rd1 unless he goes through a series of games prior....

You can bring the fittest guy in the game and throw him straight into Rd1, and he will still Struggle to find his Feet

Fingers Crossed that we dont suffer serious injuries....
