Who's under the pump to perform in 2009, not just for us but for their careers?

With GC17 in the draft (probably) next season we will not have many good picks. The expectation is that we should challenge for finals. Anything less will put more pressure on more players. The more players that stand up and put pressure on others the better off we will be. Potential is now not good enough for a spot. This is now not about canning players but who can stand up?

For me, players that need a BIG year are:

Adam Harlett: Had a bad run with injuries but how long can we hang on to him.

Jake Edwards: Needs to show a lot more. Like Hartlett saved because key forwards are hard to find.

Setanta: Getting to that age.

Eddie Betts: The introduction of Yarran, Garlett and the return of Houlihan will put immense pressure on him to perform more consistently.

Andrew Walker: Now needs to play to consistent level expected.

Who else?

Fisher, Hartlett, Russell, Hadley, Walker, Wiggins, Waite (we know he can be elite, he's at that age where he should be showing it)

Carrazzo.

Needs to add another aspect to his game by improving his inside work, clearances and tackling to avoid being replaced by younger players who are better kicks. Brad Sewell would be a good player for Carrazzo model himself on when the Hawk has improved out of sight after being drafted in the rookie draft.

Steven Browne and possibly Robinson are waiting.

Carrazzo would be a prime candidate to find himself as one of the inaugural Gold Coast players if he can't lift another notch.

Bret Thorton needs to have a break out year as a third tall and medium defender.

IMHO Waite is in our top 5 and not the player under the pump to perform unlike Walker, Fisher and Russell

Andrew Walker is not under the pump re his career. If he played at the same level he is already playing at right now he will play another 200 games for this club, and any other club in the league.

dont think waite or walker are in trouble at all.
carrazzo- browne, armfield, anderson maybe o'keffe and johnson are all over him like a dirty rash.
fisher- he will need a fantastic year with aleast 30-40 goal return.
hartlett- needs a big year
edwards- see above
hadley- has to overcome injury. will be a very big player in 09 if he can but if not?

Carazzo, Fisher and Russell.

Perhaps harsh on Carazzo in the sense that he has delivered in a club sense, hard worker who's seriously dug in during the bad times, but like Bentick I see him these days as a squad player, to use soccer terminology.

We're a good side when guys like Carazzo and Bentick, hard nosed blue collar footballers that they are, are running around in the 2's pushing the blokes in the seniors to keep their spots. We've not had that fight for spots for years.

Russell... well he's a margin loan that I'm calling in...

Fisher is just a tease. Can do plenty but if he can deliver 35 goals then we're well on the way...

Oh and Yarran. It's time for him to deliver. I'm sick of him sitting back waiting for a game.

You misunderstand. Yes, he's one of our best but we all know he could be in the elite category but can't get there at the moment as he still has one too many brain-farts. He should be one of those players that make opposition supporters shit their pants when he has the ball in his hands every time without fail and yet he continues to tease. Has the talent to be an AA and I want this to be the year.

Fisher... enough is enough.... time to play consistent footy, i just want him to do his role, 1) know where to lead 2) stay in contests 3) learn how to kick a goal. Doesnt have to kick 4 a game.... just provide a dangerous option and get out of Fev's way when he leads.

Neck Stevens.... highly paid and over rated in my eyes... time to give us some consistent quality football NECK

Hartlett, have never rated him but you people on here see more training/bullants games than i, so i trust that he has something to offer TIME TO DELIVER

Thornton... needs to get out of his head that possessions equals good game... being a defender means firstly stopping your man... if you can find the footy then bonus.... he has been too buys trying to peel off for cheap touches and his man bobs up! We have blokes that are there to link up and clear the defence... eg: Scotland

I cant believe Jarrad Waites name is being mentioned in this thread... has to be a joke doesnt it. In my opinion he is one of our most valuable players, his ability to go back, forward and even wing is crucial these days.

I agree with Waite -however his downfall is his kicking which at times is very second rate & unreliable.

Fisher - kicking needs to improve dramatically for him to have the necessary "hurt factor" in his game.
Carazzo - the likes of Hadley (if fit), Browne and Robinson will be putting him under pressure. Like Fisher his kicking needs to improve.
Russell - has more upside than the above 2 players.....if he can kick straight in front of goal he will be a useful player. More psychological than than technique so has scope for improvement.

Andrew Walker is definitely under the pump. He has underperformed so far, but also suffered some setbacks with injury. If he doesnt lift in 2009 or his body can't hold up he may be looking for a new home in 2010.

And imagine using being out for most of the season injured as an excuse ... pull your socks up laddy!

Thornton - pull the head in and don't spit your dummy out onto the ground every time things go against you. Makes me cringe to see that in the navy blue. Young players around.

Setanta - need to work on the aggression this year, take things a little more seriously and really make sure the forward knows who they're playing on.

Houla - girly hair ... you've let the team down just about every year, time to deliver a decent macho do!

Alright it is off-season, time to ask. Why did you keep the username despite moving sites post 2004?
