Can anyone tell me what the requirement was for getting a name on a locker in the early days? was it 50 games? when did it change?

McGregor (11) only played 92 games
Gardiner (13) only played 90
Duncan (20) only 58.

McGregor played 236 games and in various guernsey numbers...
Vin Gardiner played 157 games all in number 13
Alex Duncan played 4 years in number 20 and five years in number 32 for a total of 141 games. Could be that despite more games in 32 - his original number was put on the locker.

Close Doc but theres a bit more to it. Jumper numbers were brought in late in the 1911 season, I think from the Semi onwards. Much of McGregor's career was played before jumper numbers were worn, plus he missed all of 1913 with suspension. So the 98 is from 1911 to 1920 (less 1913) and excludes his other games. Given the numbers were brought in mid-career of a number of guns for Carlton - McGregor played in 4 Premierships - names were placed on lockers to reflect the whole careers.

This is why Gardiner played 157 but is only recognised in the Locker Room for 90 etc.

Ah yes - you're right Molesy! Numbers were experimented prior to, but became official in the second-semi between Carlton and Essendon* - a game which we lost and the corresponding game 12 months later saw McGregor suspended for not following team orders...wonder how our number 25 would have faired back in the day!

Hope to see more names on the lockers in years to come. Honestly thought Yarran would have got #9 and Robinson #11 (he has a bit of Laurie Kerr about him so I'm told)...but these boys own these numbers now and despite the importance of the history behind them, need to make them their own.

Not much to add re the locker numbers, molsey and Doc covered it, just to add that there are a few contentious names on the lockers from early years that defy explanation. However, the mists of time are sufficiently foggy that no-one is ever really going to challenge them, besides the names are part of the history of each locker. Even if a few players got their name on in mysterious circumstances it adds to the charm.

Yarran - 13
Robbo - 12
206 - 11
Tiller - 35
O'Keeffe - 20

The old bingo call here, "LEGS, 11" I reckon that's why.

I'm calling him "Cat".

When he kicks his first goal, I'm going to jump up and scream out "That's Tea for the Tiller man!"

OK, I'm leaving now.

Any chance of Jamo lowering his number? He would look good in #9

Yeah but in this case it was done by 'Lucas', one of our most diligent writers.

It'd work best of his middle initials were NH.

CNH Tiller 8)
