from what i've heard, while it can give you an extra few inches, it can really alter the feeling in the tip.

Good point, well made. :)

No need to do it instantly, no threat of him changing clubs I dont think. Just play it one contract at a time.

Some weeks ago, the Blues quietly re-signed Ratten, adding two years to his deal which still had one year to run, tying him to the club until the end of 2011. The new contract has no escape clauses for the club, only bonuses for the coach depending on how far he can take his team through the finals. And, as Ratten says, finals are what are expected of the Carlton Football Club after a seven-year absence.

Am i reading this right? 25 years is almost a third of 37 years?

I'm guessing maths wasn't Carro's thing in highschool.

I guess we'll get a better idea of who was in the Nick Stevens and Eddie Betts groups when they return to training - or do we already know who was in those groups, they'll be training with the Northern Bullants from Caro's article.

Eddies group includes Hampson and Joey Anderson.

Stupid decision to extend Rattens contract another 2 years on the basis of what he has achieved since being coach...

Saw them about 2 weeks ago and Hampson and Anderson are both in fantastic nick so it must be about Eddie who was definitely carrying a spare tyre.

Hampson has added muscle and Joey looked as though he had trimmed down a bit.

Two thirds of Caro's articles are made up rubbish.

And the other half are questionable.

it would seem that lessons are not easily learnt at carlton. you would think that the whole pagan debacle would have made the powers that be a bit more wary of making snap decisions.... apparently not. I hope this works out for us, but there is a certain sense of de ja vu.

I like Ratts, but let's face it, he hasn't achieved anything just yet. absolutely unnecessary to extend his contract at this stage. He wasn't going anywhere.

No reason not to see how the season panned out first before making a decision... anyways, I guess we'll know in 3 years time whether it was a good decision or not

I dont see a problem with signing Ratts. Its a decision that is inline with the way all other clubs go about signing their coaches.

Noone wants their coach coaching the last year of a contract.

To me it is a sensible decision and nothing like the Pagan extension.

I trust those that Pratt put in charge of our club. The solidarity and faith the different parts of our club are developing in one another can only be a good thing.

Go Blues !

I dont think its such a great decision, primarily because we still dont know if Ratts can coach or not..

A couple of extracts that sum up my beliefs on Ratts.

Quote:
Ratten is the only one of the four first-year coaches in 2008 not to have received a three-year deal. The club had been gun-shy after the Denis Pagan experience and Ratten had been happy to sign for two, believing in what he could achieve.

Quote:
I knew he would get the Carlton job. He's very talented, he works incredibly long hours and his approach is to lead by example

Agree with this, could have signed him up mid-season with a better sense of perspective.

Great show of faith in Ratts and allows him to coach for 2010/2011 rather than making the finals next season to keep his job.

Are we going to be any wiser in 10 months time whether he can really coach or not?

I was one against the appointment of Ratts and the 'jobs for the boys at Carlton' but honestly i'd have to say that there couldn't be a better developer for the boys at the present time.

In a year or two's time who knows he may be pushed aside and a more proven senior coach may take his place and finish the job.

But there is no doubt Ratts is one hell of a bloke that will stedfast the playing group and turn this club around.

Also, i don't think Ratts would be on the kind of money other coaches are on, modesty is one of his best attributes so he would cost us that much if we were to part ways with him.

Damn! was looking forward to a Synners rant. Two lines!!!!! Massive disappointment. *snip*

While very happy with Ratts should have waited until next year, Then gone for two with an option for three.

We could see in 10 months if other clubs have broken down our system of play. Would have liked to see how Ratts would respond to the inevitable second year issues.
