Can I confirm that the rumoured sponsorship of Etihad and Carlton is not happening?

Good Point DUC

All I care and want to know is will they sponsor the Blues?

Should have sponsored the blues instead of the dome........

So can they now also sponsor a club, would it be a conflict.

No. Toyota sponsor Adelaide.

In any case, it makes no sense for the sponsor to alienate 15 x 35,000 members by leveraging their sponsorship through one particular club.... even if they had the $$$ to do it. The stadium deal won't have come cheap - and we would want $1mil plus

The Crows/Toyota deal is a different situation because the Camry brand is (or was) a big part of Adelaide's (the city) culture... same with Ford in Geelong.

Other than the media using its full name - thought everyone / supporters refer to it as 'The Dome'?

Care factor. Nil.

I can't imagine a football ground being named Etihad.

this article focuses on north melbourne.

stuff north melbourne - what is the AFL doing for Carlton - re extra signage rights?

"It is believed that the AFL, which has retained a large chunk of the advertising signage profits for its games there, will forward significantly larger sums of money to its clubs next season. The Kangaroos, for example, should reap extra profits to the equivalent of one $400,000 Gold Coast game as part of its improved signage deal."

It's looking increasingly likely that AIG will be withdrawing its sponsorship of Richmond.

Just wanted to get in a good old-fashioned "I told you so"

Might seem funny now, but it will have implications for many more clubs than Richmond over the next few years.

... and maybe not just sponsorship will be impacted.

The AFL may not get such a good price for the broadcast rights next time.

The Spew and McLachlan will be ordering extra sets of heavy duty bike clips - as these are the two flower who haven't really developed any extra revenue streams for the AFL other than TV Rights - and they have tied the ongoing success of the AFL to the TV Rights revenue - as have the AFLPA.

No-one I know called TD , "Docklands" or "The dome".. It was "telstra dome" or just "telstra".
I think the name will stick in 2 or 3 years.

As did Colonial when Telstra took over.

I know many, many, many, many (imagine Comndt Lassart from police academy) people that call it 'the dome',

moving forward that's what it will be known as,

except for those media types that feel obligated to call it Etihad

What did you call it before 'The Dome'?

Docklands or Colonial?

Once people learn to pronounce Etihad thats what it will be known as.

As far as I can remember didnt Anthony Hudson get suspended from Channel 10 for calling the outer wing the a "Desert" during its early days - which is pretty appropriate given that the country where Etihad Airlines is based is about 99% sand.

can't recall, probably colonial - different circumstances then though - being the first time it was named, I'm not going to change everytime it gets a new sponsor - just like calling pp Optus - was happy to call it Optus but wouldn't take on a new name change.

Funny thing is though, I remember being critical of the term 'dome' - you know, considering there isn't one.

Might just stick with Docklands, or 'the shit hole' eg. are we playing at the 'g'? Nah playing at the shit hole.
