Doesn't change how much $ the Tigers will be getting.

Sunrise suggest that fans will brand the new name as un-Australian....

I would have thought that any corporate naming of a stadium is un-Australian, regardless of the company.

Before you tell me to get with the times how would people feel if the MCG became the 'American Express Arena'???

Some people probably wouldn't care because they would go on calling it the MCG anyway.... using the above example, Amex would probably recognise the prestige associated with a 150 year old venue and leverage their brand another way.

Sanitarium's (Weet-Bix) sponsorship with the Sheffield Shield is another example. Rather than re-branding the Pura Cup as the Weet-bix Bowl, they have opted for "Sheffield Shield presented by Weet-bix"..... It will get bugger all naming rights recognition, but having access to the grass roots and building on their "Brett Lee eats nine weet-bix" campaign is infinitely more valuable to them.

The last time I checked Hyundai would be deemed to be a global brand.

Maybe, but if I were Richmond, I wouldn't go spending all their 3 year sponsorship yet.

The US taxpayer had to fork out $85 Billion on that company alone. And these were the guys who threw a $40,000 piss-up days afterwards.

I reckon there will be plenty of scrutiny into their ongoing global sponsorships of sporting teams, amongst other things.

Times change, and a sponsorship contract isn't too hard to break if your company has just been saved from insolvency by the taxpayer.

Corporate largesse is sooo 2007.

Yes, but we're not the Hyundai Blues.

You would have to be concerned if someone manages to get Etihad over us, wouldn't you?... Given the Tiges recently got the AIG sponsorship - which I imagine was fairly lucrative, considering they also sponsor Man Utd in the EPL.

Not really. Carlton members may feel more loyalty towards the financial services that the club already offers - like this one among others.

Wonder what our Jewish supporters would think about Eithad sponsoring us?

I for one don't care.

I'd have more issues with Al Jazeera or a subsidiary of the Iranian Government, or any other Government which promotes racial and religious discrimination sponsoring us than Etihad.

Don't have a problem with it.

Besides, the more dealings and interactions between religions/groups who in some ways are in conflict, the more chance we have of overcoming those conflicts.

My guess is that most Jewish people don't have an issue with Arabs or Muslims, they have an issue with extermists, whoever they represent.

Well considering half our board is Jewish you would expect somebody Jewish to have to tick off the sponsorship...
I dont really see how it is any issue at all?

I don't have a problem with any company with the naming rights to Telstra Dome.
Before that it was Colonial Stadium,
Etihad ? no probs.
Vodafone Area etc, etc.

M.C.G.? well that is a completely different kettle of fish.
It's never been called anything else and I would not like it to change.

Can I confirm that the rumoured sponsorship of Etihad and Carlton is not happening?

I'm sure they would say "business is business"

How do we feel about VISY sponsoring us ?

Lets see, Murphy contract delayed while approval is gained from AFL for "outside the box" deal? Etihad to be announced as major sponsor?

I'd expect the face of Etihad to be Murphy and both deals announced together if their is any truth to the Etihad rumour.

How do you pronounce Etihad? Is the 'h' a soft 'h' like in English or the hard clearing the throat sound "ch" or "kh". Cant wait to hear Dipper pronounce it either way.
