unfortunately its pretty slim pickings from the 2000s..... when compared to the 90s. what about pagan's first match against North. That was pretty bloody good. Fev kicked 8 from memory including his last; a big banana from outside the boundary line. Can't remember what round it was but would have been early 2003. anyone else have better recollections of the game?

Hoops kicked two goals in the last quarter and Tim Lame immediately labelled him "The Assassin"!

Matty Lappin destroyed North off a half back flank.

Justin Davies tagged Brent Harvey out of the game with a more than physical approach.

Dennis Pagan declared how much he loved coaching kids as they would "Jump off the Westgate Bridge" if he asked them to.

more like he would have pushed them off, was this the game where hickmott played on Archer and they had a great battle?

The game against Adelaide at FP when Fev kicked the goal from the boundary in the last few minutes or Andy Walkers first game against the WC.

I'm not sure KK but I do remember a game where Hicky was trying to put Archer off his game, he may have conned the ump for a free kick inside 50 that turned the game. Hicky had retired the next time we played North so you may be on the money.

I like Round 21, 2004. Not a particularly interesting game, but some moments of pure brilliance from Davies and Waite especially in the 3rd quarter. It was also our last win at Princes Park, which needs to give it some credit.

IIRC Carlton were 6.9. 45 at half time...

It was also the first game that Fev wore white boots in a AFL game (useless trivia I know)...

We've had a submission relating to a missed game from the 1990's article - a wonderful win over the Bombers in Round 7 1995 but without Kernahan, Pearce and Williams, the reigning Brownlow Medallist.

We lost to sydney and St Kilda and in the latter game, St kilda were suspiciously backed off the map to win by 39+??

I have fantastic memories of this game, it was the 1st time we had beaten Essendon* since the night final in '93, and the 1st time we had beaten them in a H&A season since '92. In between time, we had endured the drawn 'Kernahan game', the 93 GF , a one point loss at Waverley, and a rd 22 loss in the wet in '94 (when Julian Kirzner had his 15 seconds of fame against SOS).

Anyway, I just dusted off the tape of Rd 7 '95 and watched the last quarter. The goal kickers in the last term for us were:

Bradley (bannana from outside 50 on the run)
Cook (set shot from near the boundary)
Gleeson (classic Bear rovers goal)
Rice (set shot from a free 40m out)
Gleeson (the sealer... )

The standard of the game was very average, but the last quarter was exciting, and it was great to get one back against the Scum...

By the way, Troy Bond must have been the most relieved man at the MCG when the siren went. He missed a set shot from 10m out in the dying moments before Gleeson kicked the sealer...making matters worse, before he took the shot (from a mark), he was smiling and he and Hanna were patting each other on the back. He looked a right tool when he missed the shot.

We lost the next 2 games (to Syd in Syd, and the Saints at Waverley), before bouncing back with a 100+ win over the Dawks and didn't lose another game for the remainder of the year

Nice one ABNS. Recall that game (& Gleeson's final qtr) fondly too...

IIRC James Cook stood in at full forward & finished with 3 in a game in which we were made to earn all our goals.

There was also a classic Dean Rice tackle on Wanganeen at one stage.

It must have been just about the last big game that Gleeson played in...I remember he suffered through a knee injury for much of '95, but kept on playing and lost his place in our best 21 in the 2nd half of the year (therefore missing out on playing in the premiership side that year). I think he then only managed a few games in '96, before being told to retire. He then was a playing Assistant Coach under Wayne Brittan in our reserves side in '97.

Yeah, you're right about Cook. He kicked 3, but geez he looked unfit, and the commentators (particulalry Peter McKenna) get stuck into him a bit. He was straight back to the reserves when Pearce & Sticks came back, and he we traded him to the Doggies at the end of the year. Come to think of it, this must have been one of Cook's last games for us too...

Rice (returning from injury and playing his 2nd game for the club) and Spalding put on some great tackles in the last quarter that created opportunities for Gleeson. Hardwick got wrapped up in a beauty by Rice

Our current coach has a nice little scrap with a current member of the Channel 7 commentary team early in the last quarter too..

Thanks for tall of the game details - these have been added to site. We really appreciate memories like this being added as now everyone can know about this.

As for Cook, 1995 was his last year for us but this was his second of 7 games for the year:
