And yet, still haven't won as many games as Collingwood.

Ouch!

Mandy, perhaps would like to do the research.
Carlton was winning games and 7 Premierships, 28 years before Collingwood was even thought of.
In fact Collingwood would not have been able to join the VFA if it was not for Carlton's insistence and assistance. Check it out.

And in return, they've handed us most of our premierships. Thanks Pies! :)

Speaking of Carlton v Collingwood in finals, who can tell me how many years has it been since the last final between these great foes?

1981 was the last GF, I'm thinking 1988 was the last final for some reason...

Very good, thehalford, you're very good at these. Between you and grrofunger you've covered just about all of these quiz thingies. 20 years ago was the last Blue v Pies final.

But can you answer this....

Which 3 current clubs has Carlton NEVER played in a final?

NB We never played University in a final either.

Ah, so since we've both been in this comp, the Pies have won 5 more premierships than you? I did not know that.

Thanks. :-D

Wrong. VFA premierships don't count in the "official" stats.

St Kilda, Port Adelaide, Fremantle?

I'm inclined to think Nick's (almost) right. Port and Freo definitely, but we played WC in 1999 (remember Mick's whinging :P ) and St Kilda in the 1972 PF at the very least. Can't remember us ever playing Sydney in a final though. South Melbourne we did, but that's a different story altogether.

Mandy, Carlton has won 23 Premierships and all in the ELITE competition of the time.
Look at the bottom of the page.
Collingwood won 1 VFA premiership in 1896.
Collingwood has only defeated Carlton once in a Grand Final, (1910) but of course you would know that.
Oh, and how many flags in the last 50 years?

Correct, good work on Port and Freo above but blueycarlton takes the prize for the Bulldogs. Despite joining in 1925, theyve never played Carlton in a final.

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... remiership

Updated as at Week 2 of the finals.

Interesting to note that the team with the most successful history still in the competition in 2008 is Hawthorn, who if they are successful, would bring up a 10th premiership in 84 seasons. This is top class stuff - no, not quite the Carlton / Essendon* / WCE level, but still very good nonetheless.

Collingwood's exit means 14 in 112 seasons at one every 8 years, still a phenomenal record.

We played Sydney in a final at the MCG in 1986.

With one week to go, the 3rd and 4th teams dropped out and failed to improve their 1 premiership record.

Hawthorn and Geelong could move up the 'ladder', although note Hawthorn will be going for premiership #10 in 84 seasons which is a very special record. Carlton, long held as the barometer for premiership success, has won 11 premierships in that same time period.

Something else point out to us on this...

Geelong are of course Minor Premier and could do the double, much like us in 1995.

Which was Carlton's most recent Premiership where we won without being Minor Premier?

C'mon the halford you should do this one quick.

1982 we came 3rd H&A I believe... 1987 we were minor premiers.

1982 is my guess.

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... remiership

Updated for all of 2008.

The Hawks leapfrog above both Adelaide and Melbourne on an average years per premiership basis, with one every 8.4 years now better than Adelaide's 2 in 18 (9.0 year average) and Melbourne's 9.1 year average.

No denying it, the Hawks are a successful Club. Their 10th now matches Richmond, but in a shorter time period in the competition.

In my lifetime they have been the most successful club - 9 to our 7.

And I hate them right up there with Essendon* and Collingwood. :x
