I can see why people would be upset with this type of thread.

But at the same time I can see why this type of thread is put up.

The fact is we have a young list, we all have expectations of individuals on the lists and rightly or wrongly they exceed, meet or are below our individual expaectations.

Banning comments on expectations of young players just because they are young is a tad Trotskyist and we may as well shove an Ice pick in every thread where an independant opinion is expressed. :P

For me it was all about a youngster seizing an opportunity. With Kennedy being traded, Hartlett and Edwards had a chance to cement a spot in the forward line in 2008. Both were given opportunities but both failed to cement a position. Harlett was just a touch more dissapointing than Edwards for mine.

TBH I reckon all of them had terrible seasons.
However mine was for Hartlett, the guy just keeps getting injured and it is incredibly frustrating.

On potential vs. output, I'd have to go Benjamin.

Interesting thread. I went with Hartlett. There was a spot for him to take, still is, and he couldn't do enough to grab it. I do cut him some slack for all of his injuries tho.

I think he was the most disappointing considering the opportunity he had, and that he has been on the list for a little while now. But i still think he could step up given the chance next year.

However, i was most disappointed that C Benjamin hasn't stepped up. I never really expected him to become a gun, but i hoped he would. I was hoping he could add a lot of spark to the team. Not disappointed in him at all. Just disappointed that it doesn't seem like he'll make it.

Of the "kids" I selected Hartlett as we badly need a tall forward and I think he has the talent to make the grade. Unfortunately he seems to lack intensity but hopefully he can turn this around next year.

Overall the player I've been most disappointed in this year would be Brad Fisher. A couple of years ago I was hoping he could turn out to be a 40-50 goal a year player however this now looks very unlikely.

Unfortunately we have little idea of what's going on behind the scenes which distorts our views.
Take Jackson for example. He had a broken hand early which disrupted his early season. He is also being tried as a wingman when he's probably had his most success as a run with player.
Just when he hit some form and looked like forcing his way in, he retaliated after getting whacked and copped a suspension.
He returned to cop a corked thigh which was so severe, it required draining after games.

Some players just have a bad run at the wrong time. I remember when Carrots was a rookie and he was struggling big time. He was being played everywhere at the Bullants and struggled to show his wares. Luckily he hit form in the last 5 or 6 weeks and got promoted to the senior list.
A couple of years later, he won a B&F.

The point is, be disappointed by all means but dont be too judgemental without sourcing the facts first.

Benjamin for me. Watched his first Bullants game coming back from injury and he looked all class across half forward, not sure what happened after that.

Based on my knowledge it is Hartlett.
Based on your knowledge it is ..................

You might as well close this joint down to 99% of us if we can't be judgemental on the facts that are presented to us which is mostly watching games of football.

I struggle to to be dissapointed with any of the fringe midfielders because of the quality and depth they were competing against. On the other hand we had guys playing in the forward line that struggled for form throughout the season but were persisted with because Edwards and Hartlett could not step up.

I was hoping Harts might've cemented a spot this year but injuries unfortunately keep getting the better of him.

I know he had a terrible season kicking for goal but word is he was carrying an injury. Look back to 2007 and he was the third best set shot in the league and ended up with something ridiculous like 42.7 or something to that effect. I'm prepared to see how he goes next year before I sink the boot in.

39 goals 15 isnt quite 42.7 but its still an impressive rate:

Looking through the 2008 playing list in the Blueseum you see that 25.22 is what Fish achieved this year, so scoring shots down by 7 but 14 less goals:

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... aying+List

Compare to Betts who kicked 25 goals 10 in 2008 at a very good conversion rate.
