Love the photos of the redevelopment on carltonfc.com.

What will the new ground capacity be? (thinking whether AFL would still be viable there........)

Two stands gone with no seating in the replacement facility?

Would be barely 20,000 you would think.

Unfortunately the Legends stand stays...it's the Heatley and Harris Stands that have been knocked down...hence no view through to the cemetery.

So we can have any final in Sydney relocated to there then?

Some photos of dirt.

The footprint of the redevelopment is bigger than I thought it would be.

Thanks for the photo's BI.

Is the TAC grand final being played at PP. There is a definite advantage to kicking to the Lygon Street end if the wind is blowing from the west

Were the old stands auctioned off after all?

looking at those pics one cant help but shed a tear, knowing that we will never come from behind, kicking to the heatley stand end into the cheersquad....

but one can also not help being excited that my club is going to have the best facilities available, as well as the most premierships won by any team

With the current redevelopment is it possible to reconfigure the ground as close to the MCG dimensions buy cutting into the surrounding seats and stands.

I been told that the Hawks oval at Waverly was reconfigured to same size as the MCG, the Demons new training ground will be the same dimensions as the MCG and the Pies are currently planning to build a MCG size training oval at Olympic park.

Surely these clubs must think there is something to this or am i looking into it to much??

It all comes back to cost Vs profit. profit being the obvious winner, but i see your point all ovals will eventually be MCG size, given the grannie is allways played there.

From memory Optus Oval had almost identical dimensions to the MCG anyway? Though I don't remember if that changed during the MCG redevelopment

MCG Ground Dimensions: 160m by 141m. Goals run east to west.

Princes Park Ground Dimensions: 158m by 135m. Goals run east to west.

The length of the ground was extended during the "Legends Stand" development to match as closely as possible to the MCG - prior to that the length of the ground was about 150m - and the 50metre arc was really about 45metres - you can ask Collo.

And it also explains how Warrick Capper made the distance from the 50metre arc in 1988 when the Brisbane Bears beat Carlton - and then Robert Walls got the sack as coach later that night.

Great thread :P

In a way this had to happen for us to start a new era, the players can make their own history at a ground in which they were a part of the changes....

Now that was a bad day at the football.... but I do believe it was in 89. That was the season we first got memberships and we drove 3 hours every home game to watch the mighty blues.... Plus my little brother barracked for Capper at the time and ran on the ground and gave the Cheersquad the finger after Capper kicked that goal.... He as 9 years old....
