The annual update is currently underway at the Blueseum and we've started to update our 'Seasons per Premiership' page which simply tracks the years in the competition of all Clubs versus the Premierships won by those teams:

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... remiership

Its an interesting analysis (though simple) which highlights the success of Carlton, Essendon* and West Coast in their respective eras, but also that 5 of this years top 8 are on the 'bottom half' of the Seasons per Premiership ladder eg. Bulldogs and Saints with 1 premiership; Roos and Swans with 4, Geelong 7. A win by Collingwood would see them average a premiership every 7 1/2 years which as we know would be a striking rate of success (but still outside of Carltons!)

For those who don't know....who are the only 2 Clubs to have been in the competition every year?

We rarely ask questions without giving the answers...think of it as checking whether anyone is paying attention

Which comp. do you mean?
1897 AFL/VFL. Carlton, Collingwood
1877 VFA. Carlton
1864 Challenge Cup. Carlton

Carlton the only football team in the world to have played every year since July 1864

The seasons per premiership focusses on the VFL / AFL era given colloquially we tend to track Carlton's 16 premierships.

Your last point is fascinating and we'll make sure that is added to the site - just need to find the right spot.

Updated for feedback received from some of the forums, particularly Bigfooty.

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... remiership

Interesting comment made from one user - the Swans's average seasons per Premiership as Sydney (1 in 27 years) is virtually the same as their average as both South Melbourne and Sydney combined.

And yet, still haven't won as many games as Collingwood.

Ouch!

You'd sell your soul to see one this year. (or one in the next 50)

Mandy, perhaps would like to do the research.
Carlton was winning games and 7 Premierships, 28 years before Collingwood was even thought of.
In fact Collingwood would not have been able to join the VFA if it was not for Carlton's insistence and assistance. Check it out.

Some clubs just 'have it'.
