Encourage him to think longer term by extending to 2011 now :-D

Good on him. Well deserved!

I like Ratts. He has his faults but he aint to proud or stubourn to know it and, as such, address these faults. I think that makes him more appealing to the players too.

There have been a few games this year when we play the fast & Hard run through the corridor that is quite simply the most entertaining football i've seen us play since Parkin's / Brittan's side in 2000.

I'd wait until the middle of the season. What if we lose our first 5 games

No need to make rash decisions on a first year performance. Dennis Pagan took us to 9th in his first year and then look what happened. I wouldn't be getting to carried away

CARLTON'S rousing surge up the ladder should see coach Brett Ratten rewarded with an off-season contract extension.

Next week the club will review its season, and is likely to approve Ratten's contract extension.

What a useless article.

There's no fact, just one writers opinion.

Pure speculation.

If by 9th you meant 15th you would be correct.

If by first year you meant second year then it was 11th instead of 9th.

Interesting...

I've been pleased with Ratts, but I don't see what the rush is to sign him up. We could revisit mid next year and go from there.

What interested me the most is that other clubs offered their new coaches 3 years and we elected to offer Ratts 2 years only.

I think dump Ratts and get SHEEDY

Nah I love Ratts and think he's done a good job so far. Next year will be his test. I also think he will pass it with flying Navy Blue colours.

He can then put his hand up for a 2 year extension

Deja vu all over again.
Just remember what we were all saying after the vastly improved performance in 2004 - about 10 wins (?) and NAB cup 2005 after 15th in 2003.

Ratts has done well. Given that he has elite young talent, he was given the best player in the comp who also happens to be a peerless leader and got Stevo back, not to mention money in the footy dept after 6 years as beggars..... I would be disappointed if he had done much worse. Look at the Tiges - 16th to 9th.

Our 2008 has been much better than 04 - no thrashings and only a few bad beatings, but will Carlton ever learn! He has a contract and when he gets near the end of it make a decision.

The players are playing for him, and maybe they will still be this time next year, or maybe not. He appears a bit slow in the box on match day. He has done well, but let's wait and see. We need the best. Our selection process for the job was yet again jobs for the boys. We need to expand our development and Ants staff and get some experience in there, and we need to continue to make big strides next year. When we do, we can talk a new contract.

Why would we be so keen to extend. No-one else is after him. He is enormously inexperienced, and he has landed a dream job with a club on the up, with barely having to go through the inconvenience of an interview.

If, after the initial contract, he proves himself the best man for the job, extend, but not now. The Richmond players played well under Gieschn for a while too. Remember the two magic words - Dennis Pagan.

I'd wait until near the end of next season and see how he goes....

Last time I checked the record books we finished 15th in Pagans first year

Ratts is doing OK, but was given 2 years. He has completed 1 so only half the job done so far.

No need to rush it imho. Leave it off the table altogether & see what happens in the first third of the season. As DUC has pointed out it is imperative to get off to a good start next year & that will be Ratts' "acid" test. No pressure Ratts

For me, someone's contract should only be brought up if not performing. If they are, that's what they were contracted to do. No need to get ahead of ourselves as a club on these matters. IMO.

Seeing as though you are so busy: http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php?page=2004

We finished 15th in 2003 (Pagan's first year) and then 11th in 2004 with 10 wins.
